When I walked out of the hospital, dazzling golden light spilled all over the ground.
Looking at the clear blue sky, I took a deep breath and said, "You go back to the office first. I'm meeting someone for lunch."
The driver couldn't help but say, "Mrs. Herrera, Mr. Herrera asked me to follow you."
I frowned slightly. "Don't worry, I'll be fine."
The driver walked to my side and whispered, "Mrs. Herrera, it's not safe for you to go out alone."
I laughed self-deprecatingly and looked at the cold-faced man with a sharp gaze. My tone sounded a little impatient. "I'm just going to have food. I don't want anyone to disturb me."
The driver looked up at me and nodded respectfully, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated. Then, he left in embarrassment.
After pulling out my phone, I dialed a number. Twenty minutes later, a black van pulled up in front of me. When I saw the man in the car, I got in.
I turned to look at the man sitting beside me and smiled.
He was wearing a pair of black suit pants and a dark blue shirt. His originally tall figure was even more slender.
The sunlight shone in through the car window and shone on the side of his face. His outline was good-looking.
He said, "Laurel, long time no see."
Asher Yeats was smiling. He looked gentle and harmless, and his voice was clear and pleasant.
He was addressing me so intimately. Those who didn't know might think that we'd known each other for a long time.
But in fact, I was not familiar with him at all.
Moreover, I made an appointment with Henry Yeats, but I didn't expect Asher to come.
Asher seemed to have seen through the confusion in my heart. The corners of his lips curled up, and there was a hint of laziness in his voice. "My father had an impromptu meeting, so he sent me to see you."
In the end, I chose to believe it.
Since I didn't say anything, he looked up at me and suddenly smiled. "It's true."
I blinked, wondering how he could read my mind.
I said, "I need Henry's help with something."
I suspected that Henry avoided me because he didn't want to help me. He didn't want to break our agreement, so he sent Asher.
Actually, I didn't know much about the relationship between Henry and my mother. Therefore, I couldn't trust this person 100%.
He had said that he had offended Maddox, so he suspected that the person who wanted to kill him was Maddox.
However, even though he knew my identity, he still chose to have me work for him. I wonder why he wasn't afraid that I would betray him and tell Maddox about him.
After all, Maddox was my father. I had only met Henry a few times.
A hint of surprise appeared in Asher's eyes. "Looks like you are in trouble?"
I took a deep breath and thought of Alex, who was sitting in a wheelchair. I felt as if my heart was being pricked by needles. Even my breathing became a little irregular.
If Harold Foster could get the special medicine, then with Henry's ability, it shouldn't be difficult to get it.
Of course, the prerequisite was that I had to pay a certain price. Otherwise, they would not waste their connections to help me.
There was no free lunch in the world. If it was free, it meant that the price would be even greater. Favors were the hardest to repay.
I said, "Alex's leg needs a special medicine. Only the Foster family can get it."
Asher said gently, "So you want my father to help?"
I nodded. He was asking the obvious.
However, when I saw the disapproving expression on Asher's face, I couldn't help but be wonder if he already knew why I was looking for his father.
He said, "Talk to my dad yourself later."
I was stunned for a moment and looked at Asher.
There was a smile in his eyes and he spoke gently. He looked easy to get along with. However, the more he was like this, the harder it was to figure him out.
After all, everyone had flaws. If they didn't, that was because they hid it very well.
Asher met my gaze and smiled imperceptibly. "Let's eat together."
My heart skipped a beat. For a few seconds, I even suspected that Asher had installed a surveillance camera on me.
I took a deep breath and felt inexplicably nervous.
"Okay." I smiled and nodded.
Asher retracted his gaze from me.
Then, I said, "Thank you for what happened last time."
Asher was stunned. He smiled and shook his head. He looked at me lazily. "You already said it last time. If you still want to thank me, why don't you treat me to a meal?"
"Okay." I looked up at Asher. He was sitting quietly, looking like a sweet teenager from a comic book.
However, there were times when he looked at me with a faint playful smile. It was as if everything around him was just a game.
"Do I look like the person in your memory?" Asher suddenly asked.
I feigned confusion and looked at him.
"Quinn." Asher raised his eyes slightly and smiled. "The relationship between the two of you should be quite good, right?"
I said nothing. I didn't know what to say. After all, the person he was talking about had long left my life.
The Quinn who had experienced all kinds of pain and suffering was no longer there.
"It's a pity that I've never seen him." A trace of sadness flashed across Asher's face. "Actually, my mother hasn't forgotten them, even after so many years."
Hearing Asher's words, I felt that it was too ironic.
If Kelly was really thinking about her son, she would have gone to find them.
Asher lowered his voice so that only the two of us could hear. "Actually, my mother has been looking for Quinn and Larry, but my father never told her the truth. My father didn't want my mother to be too sad, so he hid the deaths of the two of them. Actually, my mother had already guessed it, but she never asked about it and chose to lie to herself, thinking that her two sons must still be alive and well."
Asher turned to look at me. His eyes were still smiling, but there was an inexplicable sadness in them. "Laurel, the dead don't want to see the living suffer. Quinn is such a kind person. He definitely won't want the person he loves to be hurt."
"Should a kind person choose to forgive all the harm others have caused?" I looked at Asher in disdain.
Asher retracted the smile on his lips and lowered his gaze. He sighed softly. "If a loved one carries the hatred of a dead person and lives on, every day they live will only settle in pain. Laurel, the happiness you see sometimes is just a flash in the pan."
I stared at him, my heart full of doubt. "What exactly do you want to tell me?"
"If I told you that the person who killed Angela might be your husband, would you still think of a way to save him?"
