Austin froze for a moment before responding, "There are no scars on your body."
"Austin, are you sure there are no scars on my body?" I narrowed my eyes, released Angela's arm, and stepped closer to Austin.
I smiled lightly. "It seems you're quite familiar with my body to answer so confidently."
Rosemary, who had been clutching his arm, suddenly shot him a displeased look.
"Six years of sleeping together, surely any man would remember, right?" one of the bystanders muttered.
"Yeah, but honestly, that woman's not bad-looking," another added.
"You're crazy. She's Mr. Herrera's woman."
"So what? What does it matter if Mr. Herrera doesn't want her?"
The insults rained down on me, and I regretted not asking for more than just 1.5 million dollars a year—maybe I should have demanded some pain and suffering compensation.
"Austin, are you really sure there's no scar on my body?"
"Laurel, what exactly do you want?" Austin's deep, eyes glinted with coldness.
I stepped forward, voice dripping with mockery. "I do have scars, you don't remember? That one summer, we went out, and a child bumped into a waiter. You almost got burned, and I stepped in front of you to block it. Don't you remember?"
"That was years ago. How could Austin possibly remember that?" Rosemary quickly interjected.
I sighed and absentmindedly raised my hand to touch my left shoulder. "Since then, I haven't worn a sleeveless top. Don't you remember?"
Austin's face shifted slightly, looking uneasy. After a pause, he muttered, "Left shoulder... I just forgot for a moment."
"And what about the other scar? You wouldn't have forgotten that one, right?"
At that moment, curious eyes from around the room were on me.
A few men standing nearby couldn't suppress their laughter.
"Can we even hear this?"
"She's got no shame, might as well say it all out loud."
Austin didn't speak immediately, so I chuckled softly. "Austin, I was just teasing you. Actually, besides the shoulder, there are no other scars on me."
"Laurel, are you done now? Can you apologize?" Austin frowned, his eyes full of disgust.
"Austin, do you remember that rainy day when you were holding an umbrella and walking across the street, and a car suddenly sped toward you? It was dark, and because you were holding a black umbrella, the driver couldn't see you. I rushed in and shoved you out of the way."
"Laurel, enough. I didn't ask you to save me, so don't use that memory to make me forgive you. I admit, back then, you were great—kind, smart, beautiful. But look at you now, you've become someone else. Do you understand?"
I sighed, shaking my head helplessly. "Austin, do you think I'm reminiscing with you? I'm telling you—if you really slept with me, you would never forget where my scars are."
"Isn't it just on the left shoulder?" Austin frowned.
I laughed loudly, then deliberately pulled at my clothes, exposing both shoulders.
Eyes turned, stunned, as they watched me.
Austin snorted. "I just said there were no scars. You're just misleading me now."
"You said you've slept with me for six years, yet you can't even remember if I have scars or not?" I shot back, my voice biting.
Austin was momentarily speechless. It took him a while to respond. "Fine. I admit it. I've only been with you once."
A shocked murmur went through the crowd.
"No wonder you're trying to climb into Alex's bed. Looks like your ex wasn't much, huh?"
"But with all the men in the world, why go for Mr. Herrera?"
The mocking tone had shifted from me to Austin, and before he could react, Rosemary spoke up first. "Laurel, Austin is only trying to help you. You know my mother has never liked you. If you're pregnant out of wedlock, it'll only ruin your life."
"Rosemary, are you in such a hurry to jump in with your advice? After all, that so-called first time? I was drunk."
In this circle, everyone knew the truth. Who would be so naive to think that someone would just sleep with them and then walk away without a second thought?
After a few back-and-forth exchanges, it was clear to everyone that Austin's words couldn't be trusted.
"Laurel, I saw Austin take you back to the hotel with my own eyes. How could that be fake?" Rosemary said, glancing at Josue.
Josue nodded quickly, though his expression was confused.
"Yes, it was Austin who took me to the hotel," I said, a half-smile playing on my lips. "But are you sure Austin didn't leave the hotel halfway through?"
"Austin, you went to Bluestar Hotel in Newton City that night. You left at 11 p.m. and didn't come back until 6 a.m.," Angela said, walking up to Austin and pointing out the specific times he'd left and returned.
Austin froze, his face a mixture of disbelief and panic. After a brief pause, he quickly retorted, "Miss Adams, your memory's incredible. You even remember things from five years ago so clearly. I can't even remember where I went last week without checking my calendar."
The implication was clear—Angela was lying.
Angela smiled faintly. "Austin, do you think the security cameras were broken, so there's no evidence? Unfortunately for you, you're wrong. Bluestar has two separate surveillance systems: one external network and one internal network."
Rosemary's face turned pale.
Austin's eyes locked on me, filled with disbelief.
"That night, you got a phone call and rushed off. Looks like the person who called you was very important, huh? You just left your girlfriend and ran off without a second thought?" I continued, my voice cold.
I glanced at Rosemary briefly, then turned back to Austin. "But I must thank that woman for calling you. It was how I found out who walked into my room that night." I smiled sweetly, my voice laced with seduction. "Austin, just so you know, I didn't climb into Alex's bed. You gave him the opportunity to climb into mine."
"No. No way!" Rosemary suddenly snapped, her eyes wide with disbelief, her voice trembling with agitation.
I raised an eyebrow, curious. "Why do you think it's impossible?"
Rosemary didn't speak, but just then, Samantha sauntered over to my side, her black satin dress shimmering with every step.
Her innocence mixed with allure, her elegance undeniable.
"Austin," Samantha said, her voice soft but firm, "Since you and Laurel are already over, there's no need for this to drag on. Six years is a long time, and I know it's hard to let go, but eventually, you'll meet the right person."
Austin looked at me, his expression unreadable. He smiled faintly. "Don't worry. I won't force things. After all, she's Alex's woman now."
