Alex had forgotten his keys, and when he returned, Isaac was standing at my door. He glanced at me meaningfully as he stepped out, then said, "Make sure you handle the menu for tonight's banquet."
Only after he left did I realize—was Alex asking me to organize a welcome banquet for his rumored mistress? Didn't he fear I might sabotage his carefully laid plans?
"Looks like your relationship with Alex isn't quite what I imagined," Isaac said, eyeing me with interest.
Angela stared at Isaac, suddenly appearing nervous as he appeared in front of us.
"Mr. Parks, are you looking for me?" I asked, forcing a smile as I gazed at the handsome man.
Isaac nodded, his face serious. "I hope you'll leave Alex."
The air froze around us the moment the words left his mouth.
I raised an eyebrow, giving him a half-smile. "Mr. Parks, are you here to act as a mediator for Samantha?"
Isaac's expression remained impassive, his eyes cold and unfeeling. But there was something sharp, calculating, and even dangerous in them—a silent menace lurking just beneath the surface.
"I just don't want the person I saved to lose their life unnecessarily."
"What do you mean?" Angela frowned, her tone sharp as she looked at Isaac.
Isaac's lips curled into a soft, almost amused smile, though his eyes stayed cold as ice. "Alex will never marry you into the Herrera family."
He paused, then added, "I know about the bet you made with Kailyn. But this doesn't need to be taken seriously."
Isaac's voice was calm, almost too gentle—like a pleasant tone laced with an underlying threat.
"20 million dollars," I said, narrowing my eyes at Isaac. "If Samantha is willing to offer me 20 million dollars, I'll walk away from Alex. How about that?"
Isaac chuckled softly, his smile deepening, though his face remained calm. There wasn't a trace of mockery.
Meanwhile, Angela, standing quietly beside me, gave my arm a subtle press, warning me to hold back. Did this naive girl really think Samantha would hand over 20 million dollars?
Did she think 20 million was pocket change, something someone could just give on a whim?
After everything I'd seen, I was sure that in Samantha's eyes, I wasn't worth more than 10 million. But even at that price, I wouldn't be losing much. After all, I'd need to spend six years with Alex just to earn that much.
Six years? Who knew how long I'd last with him. He'd probably toss me aside in less than three.
Still, as I thought about it, I almost felt sorry for him. Even someone as powerful as Alex was trapped by his circumstances, unable to be free.
Just then, a young woman burst into the room. She was barely in her twenties, her eyes blazing with fury as she stalked toward me. "You little fox! How dare you seduce Alex?"
Before I could react, she raised her hand to slap me.
I quickly grabbed Angela and pulled her to the side, narrowly avoiding the slap. Then came a loud thud as the girl collapsed to the ground, her hand still raised in the air.
She winced as she stood up, gnashing her teeth. "You slut, still hiding?"
I raised an eyebrow and exchanged a look with Angela. "When did Amanda have an illegitimate daughter?"
Angela, who had been fuming, suddenly burst out laughing.
"Well, I'll be," she teased, her voice growing louder. "Abigail, are you in need of money? It's not even the holiday season, so why are you kneeling here begging for a red envelope?"
"Angela, shut up!" Abigail spat. "Did you bring this little slut here? Can't seduce Alex yourself, so you hand him over to others? You're so generous."
Just as Angela moved forward to retort, Samantha hurried into the room.
"Abigail, what are you doing in someone else's room?" Samantha asked, her tone scolding. Upon seeing Isaac, her eyes briefly flashed with surprise.
"Samantha, I know you've never cared about the gossip around Alex and all the 'foxes' he's surrounded by, but things are different now. You're back in the country, and you're about to marry him. How can you just stand by and tolerate this?" Abigail's voice was full of disdain, clearly relying on her family's influence.
So, Abigail was related to Samantha. That explained her boldness—she had powerful backing.
"Abigail, you're just too naive. You believe everything people say. Miss Parks is Alex's guest. How could you be so rude to her?" Samantha said, feigning a scolding tone.
She then turned to me with a guilty expression. "Miss Parks, Abigail doesn't understand. Please don't take it personally."
"Samantha, don't let her fool you. She's Austin's ex-girlfriend. She broke up with him and immediately started going after Alex. How is she not a fox? You shouldn't tolerate this kind of person. I know you don't want to get into petty arguments, but some people really don't know when to stop."
Abigail sneered, her words dripping with scorn.
Angela, furious, snapped, "Abigail, who's the one without shame?"
Abigail didn't flinch at Angela's angry shout. Instead, she laughed disdainfully. "What's the matter? You can't back up your words?"
Seeing that Angela was about to explode, I quickly pulled her back, my tone calm but firm. "Actually, she's not entirely wrong. I did date Austin for six years. And yes, I'm with Alex now. But if anyone here is shameless, it's Alex too—after all, he's the one who climbed into my bed."
Abigail froze, her face contorting with disbelief. After a long silence, she finally spat out, "That's impossible! Don't spread lies."
I raised an eyebrow and turned to Samantha, offering a polite, almost fake smile. "If you don't believe me, you can ask the two people standing right here. Samantha should know, after all. The soundproofing in this place isn't great."
"You little fox! You really have no shame!" Abigail's face twisted into a snarl, her fury mirroring Amanda's.
"Right, I have no shame," I said coldly, my lips curling into a mocking smile. "Do you want me to show you?"
"Laurel, you're nothing but trash. You really think Alex likes you? The reason he's throwing such a grand birthday party for himself is all for Samantha. Tonight, he's giving her a welcome banquet. What do you even count for? You're just a third party, relying on a bit of looks. Once he's tired of you..."
