The waitress knelt before Alex, her eyes swollen with tears.
Alex's expression remained calm, but his voice was dark and menacing as he asked, "Who told you to poison her?"
The waitress turned pale with fear, shaking her head furiously. "I... I don't know."
I watched her intently—she looked about 24 or 25, and though she claimed ignorance, there was a flicker of fear in her eyes when Samantha appeared.
"You don't know?" Samantha scoffed, glaring at her. "Do you not realize that everyone here is a guest of Alex?"
"I... I was forced. My father owes gambling debts, and someone messaged me. They said if I just served one cup of water, I could pay off my father's debt. I had no choice. Alex, please, have mercy on me."
Alex narrowed his eyes, his gaze growing colder. "Alex? That's not how you address me."
"Mr. Herrera, please... please forgive me!" The waitress cried, desperate.
Alex let out a long sigh. "I'll give you one last chance."
"Mr. Herrera, I... I really don't know."
"Good," Alex said with a cold chuckle. "Take both of them away."
The waitress froze for a moment. Then, two servers standing behind Alex grabbed her, pulling her roughly to her feet. She looked at Alex in disbelief, reaching out in a final attempt to grab his pant leg, her eyes pleading.
"Miss Harvey, please, I beg you, forgive me just this once."
Before Samantha could say anything, Alex sneered, "Why are you begging Miss Harvey?"
His low voice sounded light, but there was a dangerous glint in his bright eyes.
"Miss Harvey, isn't she your girlfriend?"
"Oh? Is that so? I had no idea," Alex replied casually, glancing at Samantha.
Samantha's gaze turned icy as she looked down at the waitress, who was still kneeling and begging for mercy. "You shouldn't be begging me."
The waitress blinked in surprise, then quickly scrambled to my feet, bowing repeatedly and begging, "Miss Parks, please, have mercy! Please forgive me this one time!"
I wasn't interested in engaging with her. While I could sympathize with her situation, it didn't excuse her actions.
If it wasn't for the fear in her eyes when she handed the water to the other server, and the extra attention she gave me when she poured me more, I wouldn't have suspected anything.
Of course, I had switched the cups when she wasn't looking, and as for the other cup, who knew which unlucky person drank it?
That's also why I had refused when Angela offered to take me back to my room. I didn't want her to face any trouble, because they were targeting me.
From the moment I left the room, I felt eyes on me—watching me closely, from the restaurant to the hotel room.
The appearance of the housekeeper was no coincidence. Everything was under their control, and my actions had simply invited trouble.
After all, these small games didn't surprise me, but poisoning? That was a low blow.
"You want me to spare you this time? Will there be a second?" I asked coldly.
"No... no, I swear, there won't be another time," the waitress said, her forehead bruised and swollen from the repeated bows, her eyes full of pleading.
She looked up at me, as though she saw a glimmer of hope in my gaze. I hesitated, then smiled faintly. "I could let you go... but only if you jump down from here and see if you survive. If you do, I'll let you go. What do you say?"
The waitress stared at me, her face frozen in shock. Then, she suddenly stood up and lunged toward me, shouting, "If I die, then let's die together!"
Before she could reach me, Alex swung a chair and slammed it hard into her head, sending her crashing to the ground.
Blood flowed from the wound on her head.
"Take her away. I want her alive, but alive and wishing she were dead," Alex said, slowly adjusting the folds of his clothing, his expression still the picture of calm and elegance.
"Samantha, did that scare you?" Alex asked.
Samantha smiled faintly, but when she looked at Alex, I caught a flash of fear in her eyes.
"Lucky you dodged that, or you'd be getting a new outfit," Alex added with a light chuckle.
"Miss Parks, are you okay?" Samantha asked, her tone laced with concern.
I smiled back, saying, "I'm fine. But what about Abigail?"
When I mentioned Abigail's name, Samantha's expression changed slightly. "Miss Parks, Abigail didn't know what she was doing. Please don't be too hard on her."
"What about the three men she found for me?" I asked with feigned curiosity, raising an eyebrow.
Samantha looked confused for a moment, then answered, "What men?"
"Don't you understand? The drugs were already in the water. Of course, there had to be men involved."
"Did you make a mistake? Abigail probably misunderstood you. I know she went too far, but she was just messing around and lost her balance. Don't worry, I'll make her apologize to you," Samantha said with a frown.
It seemed like Samantha intended to brush this off, and originally, I didn't want to pursue it. After all, I couldn't afford to make an enemy of the Harvey family's precious daughter.
But I hadn't expected Alex to take matters into his own hands for me.
I pursed my lips and smiled. "I feel the same. Just a little joke, right? So, should I apologize to her?"
"Abigail was wrong, Miss Parks, you don't need to apologize. I'll take care of it," Samantha replied, her voice smooth.
I glanced at her coldly. "So, should I thank Miss Harvey?"
"No need. Actually, this is all my fault," Samantha said, lowering her gaze.
"What's your fault?" I asked, intrigued.
Samantha hesitated, and in her beautiful eyes, I saw a brief flicker of emotion before it disappeared. She replied, calm but with a hint of annoyance, "Abigail is my cousin. It's my fault for not keeping her in check."
I nodded, agreeing, though inwardly I sneered. Was this the real problem? Lack of discipline?
It wasn't discipline she lacked—it was the privilege of her family and Samantha's support that made her feel untouchable, able to do whatever she wanted.
Samantha was good at making excuses for her cousin. To her, Abigail's actions were simply a result of a little harmless fun, not something to make a big deal of.
And since she'd come here in person to explain and offer an apology, I should just let it go and give Samantha face.
I massaged my temple, about to speak, when suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps broke the silence.
"Who scratched my precious daughter's face?! I'll tear her skin off today!"
A furious roar shattered the quiet, and at the sound, Samantha's face immediately turned pale.
