"You want me to kneel and apologize?" Abigail sneered coldly.
I nodded.
"Wasn't it your mom's idea? Kneel, apologize, and I'll consider forgiving you."
Carolina's teeth ground together in frustration. She looked like she might tear me apart on the spot.
But she didn't dare, because Alex was standing right next to me.
I never understood why everyone feared Alex.
Even the Herrera family was terrified of him.
Angela once told me Alex was not only handsome but extremely intelligent. But what made him truly formidable wasn't just his looks or brains—it was his ruthlessness.
Whether it was in a fight or in business, anyone who offended Alex would never escape his vengeance.
He was decisive, even ruthless, and had made quite a few enemies because of it.
When he was in high school, he was kidnapped.
But the Herrera family never received any calls from the kidnappers. Alex disappeared for a week, and everyone thought he had been killed.
Yet when he finally returned, he was covered in blood.
The police issued a warrant for the kidnappers, but they couldn't find any leads.
It wasn't until a month later that the bodies of three men were found in an abandoned chemical plant.
It looked like they'd killed each other due to internal conflict.
But the rumors were that Alex, using his brilliant mind, had caused the infighting and, in a final stroke, killed them all.
"Laurel, why would I kneel to you? You're the one who hurt my face!" Abigail shouted, furious.
I stared at her calmly and replied, "Samantha said you should apologize, and your mom told you to kneel and do it."
"I told you to apologize to my daughter!" Carolina was practically boiling with rage, her eyes blazing.
Even Samantha, standing silently to the side, looked guilty and unsure of what to do.
She wanted Abigail to apologize, but that was only to placate me.
She hadn't expected Abigail and Carolina to storm in like this, both too furious to even think clearly.
And now, they were hoping that Alex and Samantha would somehow give them justice.
"Abigail, are you sure you didn't drug me? Didn't you hire three men to ruin my reputation?" I asked, pretending to be confused.
Abigail continued to deny it. "I didn't."
I sighed, shaking my head. "Abigail, remember when you paraded all those ladies into my room to gloat? Do you think they might not have betrayed you?"
At my words, Samantha's eyes fell on Abigail.
It seemed the mastermind didn't even know that Abigail had boldly taken those ladies into my room on her own.
How careless.
She left so many witnesses behind while trying to do something so vile. What a blunder.
Abigail thought she had everything in the bag—after all, she'd plotted my ruin, and I had lost everything.
But what she hadn't considered was that even if Alex knew the truth, he would never risk damaging his reputation by associating with a shameless woman like her.
Even if he knew she was behind everything, he wouldn't destroy his ties with the powerful families over a woman like her.
"Well, go ahead. Ask them. Prove my innocence," Abigail sneered. "Laurel, stop trying to slander me. I'm not going to admit to things I didn't do."
I paused for a moment. It was clear now—mother and daughter, thick as thieves. I'd overlooked the most crucial detail.
If anyone confessed, Alex would never let those bystanders off lightly.
So, they'd never admit it. But that didn't matter to me. What I needed was confirmation. I wanted to be sure that the mastermind behind all of this was truly Samantha.
And I needed to know exactly what steps she had pushed Abigail to take.
But judging by Samantha's expression, she clearly had no idea that Abigail had openly made such humiliating remarks in front of so many people.
"Laurel, if you can't provide evidence, then you kneel and apologize to me!" Abigail snapped, her eyes burning with defiance. "And you'll leave Alex too!"
She looked so arrogant, so self-assured, that I couldn't help but smile coldly. "You really think, other than these few people, I can't find anyone else?"
Just then, two more people were brought into the room.
One of them was the same server who had helped me back to my room. When I saw her face, I couldn't suppress a smile.tally fallen by the swimming pool.
This was the same woman who had slipped and fallen by the pool earlier.
When I saw the small mole on her wrist, I remembered her instantly.
I hadn't exposed her right away. Instead, I'd pretended to faint, waiting to regain my strength.
After being drugged, only pain could ease the effects, and since I'd taken cold medicine earlier, the drug didn't take full effect.
The other person brought in wasn't a stranger either—it was Juliet.
"What... what are you doing bringing me here?" Juliet asked nervously, her eyes widening when she saw the dried blood on the floor.
"I'm giving you a chance. Tell me everything you know, or don't blame me for what happens next." I approached Juliet slowly, my finger trailing lightly across her cheek.
She trembled at my touch, her gaze flickering to Abigail's disfigured face.
"I... I didn't want to hurt you," Juliet quickly explained.
I knew Juliet hadn't been involved, not because of her loyalty to Samantha—she wasn't yet the type to be her faithful dog—but she certainly knew I'd been drugged, and she was aware of the three men.
So, either she had overheard something, or she had seen those men.
And I was certain those men were strangers.
After all, no one would be stupid enough to mess with Alex's woman.
Before Juliet could speak further, the server beside her suddenly collapsed, sitting on the floor as she muttered, "Miss Parks, it was Miss Cole who told me to bring you back to your room. I don't know anything else."
Abigail froze, glaring at the server with cold, narrowed eyes. "Yes, I told her to bring you to your room. I had someone drug you, but I only meant to teach you a lesson. Don't start making up lies about me now."
"I... I don't know anything," Juliet stammered, her eyes darting nervously between us.
She had always been good at reading the room, and it was clear she knew which side to fear more.
After witnessing my ruthlessness, she'd probably avoid me like the plague from now on.
"But how do you know about the three men?"
"I didn't mention three men," Juliet blurted out, realizing her mistake the second the words left her mouth.
I smiled faintly. "So, you're talking about the men with... quite the physique, right?"
