A heavy collision sounded in my ears.
As if sensing the sudden arrival of an accident, I used my body to protect Angela from danger.
However, my forehead was forcefully cut by the shattered glass.
"Laurel, what's wrong? Don't scare me," said Angela.
Angela was shocked by the sudden accident. She could not speak properly and her entire body trembled slightly.
I took a deep breath and felt a faint pain on my forehead, but it wasn't serious.
I glanced at Angela up and down. Fortunately, she was not injured.
On the other hand, Lawrence, the driver, could not move his right leg at all because of the emergency brake and the collision with the car behind us.
I immediately got out of the car with Angela.
Because the car behind us suddenly hit our vehicle, Lawrence still bumped into a blue Maybach in front although he stepped on the brakes immediately.
The car behind us was a red BMW sports car.
I smelled the pungent odor of gasoline after getting out of the car.
"Angela, get out of here now. The car's leaking oil," I said.
Angela looked at me in confusion and fear. "What about you?"
"I'll be fine. Trust me."
I reached out and patted Angela on the shoulder.
"Alright, I'll go find someone," said Angela.
Then Angela hurriedly ran toward the hotel.
It was probably too late to look for help because someone had deliberately tampered with our car and temporarily closed the road.
There would always be cars going down the mountain even if few cars were going up.
However, at least ten minutes had passed since the accident. There was not a single car.
Therefore, someone wanted to kill and silence us.
Even if Angela and I were lucky enough to survive, we would probably have to bear the sins of a lifetime.
When I walked to Lawrence and wanted to pull him out of the car, I saw him say in a low voice, "Don't worry about me. Go and see the person in the car in front. It's Mr. Yeats's car in front."
"Mayor Henry Yeats?" I asked.
Lawrence immediately nodded.
My heart skipped a beat.
It seemed like someone wanted a triple kill...
It was indeed vicious.
When I walked to the car in front, I realized that the man was looking at the unconscious woman beside him in panic.
However, the driver who was supposed to be in the driver's seat was gone.
The car stopped by the roadside, and the car door was locked.
I snorted coldly. It was trying to kill the two people in the car alive.
Even if we sought help from others, it might be hard to rescue both of them quickly.
It was a pity that the person who killed thought it was simple. He chose to let us get into trouble together.
I rapped on the glass to signal the two to back off.
The middle-aged man seemed to understand what I meant. He protected the woman in his arms and hid to the side.
Apparently, the man was very nervous about the woman in his arms.
Although I did not see the woman's appearance, she should be his wife, judging from her clothes.
At the most dangerous moment, not only did he not think of escaping, but he also kept calling out to his unconscious wife.
Such a good man was indeed rare.
Just as I was about to pick up the baseball bat and knock off the lock, the woman in the man's arms slowly awakened and looked at me.
Then I felt as if all the blood in my body had frozen in an instant.
'Shouldn't Quinn's mother, who has been missing for decades, be dead? Why is she still living well?' I thought.
Although I wanted her dead, I couldn't leave her in the lurch.
Under their shocked gazes, I destroyed the car door and rescued the two people.
The smell of gasoline was getting stronger. I told the two of them to leave quickly.
The middle-aged man looked at me meaningfully. Without hesitation, he held the woman's hand and staggered not far away.
Lawrence asked me to save the people in the car behind ours because he couldn't move his feet.
He asked me not to waste any more time on him.
For some reason, I suddenly remembered something Alex had told me.
Death is the fairest thing in the world.
However, I wanted to tell him it wasn't fair at all.
The poor and the rich did not have equal access to resources in the context of power and wealth.
The rich could buy their lives with money, while the poor could only wait for death.
The poor even withstood the torture of illness every day.
The so-called being unable to live or die as one wished was nothing more than it.
What was wrong with loving money?
After all, we lived in an evil world that required money for everything.
Lawrence kept nagging me to leave quickly until he saw I had easily broken off the steering wheel that trapped his legs and the seat steel pipe below. He looked at me in disbelief and then at the deformed iron piece.
I dragged him out of the car before he could speak.
Lawrence pulled me into his arms when the car in front exploded.
When I opened my eyes in a daze, I saw the red-haired Ivan frowning and glaring at me fiercely.
"Why didn't you save me?" said Ivan.
I came to my senses in a panic and turned around to see Lawrence lying in the grass.
Just as I was about to stand up, I heard Ivan's lukewarm voice enter my ears, "Don't worry. He's not dead yet."
I let out a long sigh of relief, and only then did I realize the area between the thumb and the index finger of my hand had torn open. My ten fingertips were also full of wounds.
"Remember to compensate for destroying my baseball bat. It's signed. If you don't, I won't let you off!"
Ivan glared at me coldly, then stood and left with a cold expression.
I cursed him under my breath.
I wouldn't have bothered to save him if I hadn't seen the baseball bat in the back of his car.
Of course, I didn't save him directly. After all, his injuries weren't serious. He could still crawl out.
However, I did not expect Ivan to be involved in the accidental assassination.
Who would want to kill him?
Even if he didn't die, the accident would destroy him.
There was indeed the smell of alcohol on him, but it was not strong.
It seemed someone wanted him to take the blame. Regardless of whether he died or not, because of the major accident caused by his drunk driving, he would not be able to escape punishment even though he was the eldest grandson of the Hill family.
In the original plan, Henry and his wife, Angela, and Alex's sweetheart should have died in the accident.
No matter who was in trouble, Ivan had to go to jail for a few years.
When I saw the burning car, I glanced at the gold bracelet on my wrist and muttered, "Thank goodness I'm wearing it. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to afford it even if I sold myself to Alex for my lifetime!"
"Mrs.Herrera, are you alright?" asked Lawrence.
Lawrence suddenly appeared beside me, startling me.
"I'm fine. There is a big burn on your back. It'll leave a scar, right?" I thought for a while and added, "Don't worry. I have scar removal ointment that specializes in removing all kinds of scars."
