The sunlight outside the car window was almost blinding.
I retracted my gaze from Kelly, and a mocking smile appeared on my lips.
After so many years, Kelly knew nothing about the deaths of Quinn and Larry.
It seemed what she told Quinn before she left was just a lie.
Thinking of that, I could understand why Quinn chose to take Larry to die together.
I thought, 'Perhaps Quinn had once met Kelly. He saw she had remarried someone else and was pregnant with someone else's child.
'Quinn did not dare to face the future when his original expectations were defeated by reality. Was that why he chose to commit suicide with Larry?'
I could no longer find the answer I wanted.
The car was quiet. Perhaps it was because I was physically and mentally exhausted, I felt a strong sense of drowsiness. I quietly closed my eyes. When I woke up, the car had already driven to the city.
I asked the driver to drop me off somewhere nearby where the car could park.
"Let the driver send you back directly. Don't you have an emergency at home?"
Henry's seemingly casual question made me acutely aware he seemed to know something about what was happening around him.
I didn't stand at the ceremony with him. I called Javier and asked for his address before asking the driver to send me there.
When I got out of the car, Henry gave me his business card and said he could help me if I had any problems that I couldn't handle.
I know his good intentions and didn't refuse him.
It seemed his vigilance against me had been reduced by quite a bit.
However, when I took his business card, I saw Kelly staring at my injured hand. She seemed to have thought of something, and her expression changed.
I knew there must be something she wanted to ask me, but it was too late to worry about her dead sons.
Javier rushed over when seeing me get out of the car. He stood rooted to the ground for a long time when he saw the dried wound on my forehead and my hands. "Laurel, what's wrong?"
"I'm fine. Where's Maliyah? Haven't you found her yet?" I asked.
"Not yet. I've asked the people around me, but no one knows where she went." Javier sounded anxious. "It's not 24 hours yet. Laurel, could something have happened to Maliyah?"
"No." I comforted Javier as much as I comforted myself. "Let's go back. Maybe she's already home."
"Laurel, you should treat the wounds on your body." Javier looked at me up and down, his eyes filled with doubt. "If you go back and Maliyah sees you, she will be frightened."
Before I could react, Javier took my hand and led me to a pharmacy not far away.
After a simple bandaging treatment on my wounds, I picked up my phone and called Maliyah again. Maliyah's voice finally came from the other end of the phone.
The moment I heard Maliyah's voice, my heart finally relaxed.
"Maliyah, where are you? Why aren't you answering your phone?"
Maliyah did not answer for a long time.
"Maliyah?" I asked again.
I felt a little uneasy for some reason.
"Are you okay?" I softened my voice.
"Laurel, I... I'm at home," said Maliyah.
Maliyah's voice was choked and sounded intermittent.
"I'm at Honeydew Estate."
"Okay. We'll be right back," I said.
"No, don't." Maliyah's voice was filled with fear.
I felt my heart sink. Then I suppressed the worry and anger in my heart and said gently, "I came back alone. Javier said he still has something on."
After a minute, Maliyah said slowly, "Okay."
"Then stay at home obediently and wait for me."
After I hung up, I took a deep breath and said, "Maliyah is at home."
Javier, standing at the side, frowned with a displeased expression. "What's wrong with Maliyah? She made us search for so long. Those who don't know might think that she was kidnapped."
Javier saw I didn't say anything and asked curiously, "Laurel, what happened to Maliyah?"
"She's fine. You give me the key card, tell me which building, and don't go back yet."
Javier was stunned. He took out the key card from his pocket in a daze. After a long silence, he slowly said, "Laurel, is Maliyah fine?"
I patted him gently on the shoulder. 'Don't worry, she'll be fine.'
Javier nodded. He seemed to be smiling but not showing any emotions.
However, he seemed to have guessed something but did not continue asking.
Instead, he shrugged his shoulders with feigned casualness and smiled. "Call me if anything happens."
I nodded, hailed a cab, and headed straight for Honeydew Estate.
According to the address Javier gave me, I successfully opened the door.
The moment I pushed open the door, I was in a daze.
I didn't expect that there would be an apartment of 3,000 square feet in the city center where every inch of land was precious.
At the entrance was the entryway. On the right-hand side of the entire house was the living area. There was a master bedroom suite, living room, study, and game room. On the left-hand side were the kitchen, guest bathroom, and three second bedrooms.
The lighting in the entire room was great. Even the decoration style was what I liked.
However, I was not in the mood to look at the design of the house.
"Maliyah," I called.
The entire room was empty. No one responded, except for the sound of running water.
I followed the sound and heard a sound coming from the room on my right.
I knocked gently on the bathroom door. It took me a while to hear Maliyah.
"Laurel, I'll be done in a while. Wait for me."
"Okay."
My originally tense mood eased up a lot after hearing Maliyah's voice.
Maliyah walked out of the bathroom with a towel draped over her shoulders about half an hour later.
However, I was stunned when I saw Maliyah's red injuries.
"Maliyah, what's going on?"
"I... I'm fine." Maliyah hurriedly covered her injuries with a towel as her body trembled slightly.
However, she could not hide her reddened eyes and hoarse voice no matter how hard she tried to hide it.
"Let's go to the police."
I reached out and grabbed Maliyah's wrist. I didn't need her to tell me what had happened last night.
"Call the police? How?" Maliyah's deep voice carried a hint of a self-deprecating sneer. "Tell them I was drunk by someone and then raped? And there were a total of three men who raped me?"
Upon hearing that, I felt as if I had fallen into an ice cave. I stared straight at Maliyah.
"Laurel, they each drive a sports car worth 300 thousand dollars. Do I tell the police they three raped me or do they say I seduced them?
I shook my head and looked at Maliyah in disbelief.
