Maliyah's lips twitched as she smiled at me. "If I wanted to call the police, I wouldn't have returned to wash away the evidence on me."
I turned around and gently hugged Maliyah, still trembling. I understood it wasn't that she didn't want to call the police.
However, she was afraid if she called the police, she might not be able to get the result she wanted.
More importantly, Bonnie would definitely blame herself and feel sad.
With Javier's impulsive personality, he would not let the matter rest.
However, according to Maliyah, those men were rich and powerful. Javier might not be able to avenge Maliyah but might even be sued.
I took a deep breath and suppressed the anger and unwillingness in my heart. I was silent and then said, "Maliyah, I will stand on your side unconditionally whatever choice you make. But you have to promise me you will live well and not do anything to hurt yourself, okay?"
Maliyah suddenly burst into tears after hearing my answer.
The grievance and breakdown seemed to have completely overshadowed her in that instant.
Maliyah had always been timid. Everything that happened last night must have been a nightmare for her.
After Maliyah calmed down, I asked, "Maliyah, can you tell me what happened yesterday? Don't worry. I won't tell anyone."
"Laurel, what do you want to do?" Maliyah looked at me with tears in her eyes. Her eyes were filled with doubt and fear.
I raised my hand and gently wiped Maliyah's tears. I said in a deep voice, "I know it's a cruel thing to let you recall it again. I agree even if you don't want to call the police, but I won't let those scumbags get away with it so easily."
"No, Laurel. I don't need you to avenge me." Maliyah suddenly reached out and grabbed my wrist.
I gently stroked her head with a faint smile in my eyes. "Don't be scared. I'm Alex's wife now. They dare not do anything to me."
Unable to resist my coaxing, Maliyah told me everything that happened last night.
Vivian Payne, her former classmate, came to Nifelheim City. She hadn't seen Maliyah for a long time, so she invited Maliyah to have a late-night snack together.
Vivian came with her boyfriend. Because Vivian and Maliyah hadn't seen each other for a long time, they three went to the KTV after dinner.
Maliyah was quite happy. It was rare for her to see a classmate who had reunited after a long time.
Not only did Maliyah move into a new house that she didn't even dare to think about, but she also found a new job that she dreamed of.
Hence, she and Vivian both drank a lot.
However, Maliyah became completely blacked out later on.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw herself in an unfamiliar room with three unfamiliar men lying beside her.
Later, one of the men woke up and threw a handful of money at Maliyah before telling her to get lost.
"You know those three men?" I asked.
Maliyah hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Maliyah reached out and turned on her phone. She pointed at a man on the entertainment webpage. That man was Calum Wilcox, Austin's best friend from high school.
Calum was a famous rich second-generation heir in Nifelheim City. He was ignorant and incompetent. He relied on his family's money to bully others.
However, after graduating from high school, Calum was paid by his father to go overseas to be gilded, and he lost contact with Austin.
"I've seen two others. They're also rich kids in Nifelheim City. One of them even went to the place where I used to intern."
Upon hearing that, I felt as if I had fallen into an ice cave.
I thought, 'Previously when Maliyah lost her job, I suspected it was Austin's doing. I don't expect him to hook up with Calum now and destroy Maliyah.
'Austin never come to find trouble with me. I thought he feared Alex and would stop while he was ahead. I don't expect him to be so vicious as to attack the people around me.
'Who gives him the guts?'
At the thought of that, I suddenly felt that something was wrong.
"Laurel, what's wrong?" Maliyah looked at me carefully. When she noticed the wound on my forehead, she quickly raised her hand and asked, "Laurel, what's with the wounds on your head and hand?"
"I'm fine. I just had an accidental fall," I lied. Actually, I didn't want Maliyah to worry.
Moreover, the accidents in the suburbs seemed not to be widely reported. Not even the car that was burned was mentioned whose car it was.
Naturally, Ivan managed to dodge it this time.
After all, there were no casualties. It was just an ordinary traffic accident.
"Laurel, I don't want to stay at home recently." Maliyah bit her lip and looked at me helplessly.
My mother would be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. Bonnie and my mother would move in. Even if the family couldn't discover Maliyah's injuries, they could notice her strange emotions.
"Then where are you staying?" I asked.
"I'm going back to the old house," Maliyah said.
"No. I'll get you a room at the Bluestar Hotel. You can stay at the hotel for the time being. I'll come and see you when I'm free. It's unsafe at the old house."
Maliyah hesitated for a moment before nodding.
Actually, I arranged for Maliyah to stay in the Bluestar Hotel to prevent her from being harassed.
If Austin was behind everything, he must have other moves to make next.
It would not end so easily.
If Maliyah chose to call the police, the media would report that Maliyah had misbehaved.
The media would also thoroughly expose the skeletons in her family's closet and those around her.
Of course, the reason why Austin put in so much effort was to humiliate me and make me retreat.
Therefore, the real mastermind behind the scenes was not only Austin but also Samantha.
However, they did not expect Maliyah to choose not to call the police for the sake of her family.
Such an outcome might be within their expectations, but they would surely not let it go just like that.
"Laurel, don't think about how to avenge me. I will mediate myself. I really can do it." Maliyah reached out and held my hand tightly.
Although Maliyah said that, I could feel the panic and helplessness in her eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll avenge you," I said.
Maliyah was stunned momentarily. She quickly held my hand and hesitated before asking, "Laurel, have you really registered your marriage with Alex?"
"What's wrong?" I frowned and looked at Maliyah in confusion.
"Vivian told me Alex and the daughter of the Harvey family are getting engaged next week."
I narrowed my eyes and said in a deep voice, "In the future, you'd better not have any contact with this good classmate of yours. Just blacklist her!"
Maliyah looked at me in confusion. She seemed to have thought of something and hurriedly shook her head. "Laurel, Vivian is not who you think she is. I might have drunk too much and accidentally walked into someone else's private room..."
