Arthur's POV
“The financial report is splendid this year,” Mr. Henderson, one of the shareholders, said with a smile, looking around the table.
Others supported the motion, glancing at the report in hand. Instead of the report before me, I turned to my phone briefly and met the black screen. Disappointment washed over my face at the sight of it. “Sales has gone up since the last improvements. This Christmas has only made it better,” the sales manager said.
I could only hum as my eyes yet again went to my idle phone. Not a beep or a buzz came through yet. “It seems the plan for an expansion is feasible,”
I could barely keep track of what was being said. “This is what Mr. Floyd has planned for the expansion. He plans to take it slow and ensures the infrastructures are in place in due time,” Amelia, my assistant said, passing the documents round the table.
Amelia was only my assistant when it came to my private business. Unlike my assistants when dealing with my father's company, she was reliable, professional and not in need of a fuck from me.
“We expect to get the numbers from the finance department on how to go about it and as quickly as possible,” Amelia said.
“I understand we need to push the expansion, but will six months be enough?” Mr. Reil, the ever so meticulous man, asked.
I glanced at my phone again, but this time, my gaze lingered with a frown on my face. I had sent the message a while ago, but I had gotten no reply yet. I had a feeling I did something wrong. But I didn't know what, and it was killing me.
“Mr. Floyd,” Amelia's voice broke through my mind.
“Yes, Amelia,” I responded, offended that she distracted me.
“Mr. Reil asked for your input,” Amelia said, bringing me back to where I was.
I quickly explained. The motion for an expansion was not brought by me but duly accepted as it was needed. From what we have planned, it would generate more income.
I had thought about it and felt it was perfect to begin as fast as possible and end it as such. I explained quickly, almost vaguely, before quickly ending the meeting.
“Thank you, everyone, for your contribution. We will reconvene next week with the needed reports,” I said.
“Get me the files for the budget. I need to review them,” I told Amelia as I left the conference room.
Back in my suite, I took off my jacket, unlocked my phone and stared at the message I had sent to Sierra. Between stealing her number from Jackson and the right message to send, I would say it was new to me.
Not once had I ever needed to go to such lengths to get a lady's number or thought for hours about the best message to send. I argued with myself between 'Hey, It's Arthur' which sounded cliché and 'Wanna hang out. Arthur'.
I rested with the latter and now, after reading it for over a hundred times; I did something stupid by sending a message like it was some letter. Also, instead of a question mark, I used a full stop.
My fingers urged to send a follow-up message, but it was not something Arthur would do. I knew I had long passed that stage. I never texted first, but here I was, doing exactly that. Neither did I stay eager for a message back either and again, I was doing that.
But then again, what would I send? With a sigh, I tossed my phone to my bed as my brain registered some noises. I took a step to the window when a knock came at the door.
Amelia walked into the room with a file in hand. “The file you asked for, sir,” she said.
“What's with the noise?” I asked.
“There was an accident an hour ago before the resort. There has been traffic and lots of people. Paramedics just got on the scene,”
“Anyone hurt?”
“A lady. Her identity has not been confirmed yet and how badly she is injured.”
I took the file from her. “Handle it. I do not want anything tainting the resort at such a time,” I said.
“Alright, sir,” she said and left the room.
An accident in front of the resort is certainly not good for the business. I knew how cautious the people could be. I looked out the balcony to the road, but I could barely see a thing. There was just too many people. I walked back in, tossing the file on the bed and helping myself into the bathroom.
The cold feel of the water on my body ignited an image in my mind. Sierra's scent filled my nostrils. The way her skin felt on my fingers was tainting my mind. She was truly driving me crazy.
It has been so long since I saw her. Being wrapped up in work and trying to avoid Jackson, it wasn't easy to get to her. My only means right now of reaching out was through this, and the longer I waited for a response, the eager I became.
I shut off the shower, thinking of calling. But I was unsure if she was still not in the mood to speak to anyone. Maybe I should have apologized instead of asking to hang out.
Maybe that was what I got wrong. If it weren't for me, Jackson would not have argued with her. “Arthur, you sure have lost your game,” I muttered to myself, rushing out of the bathroom.
Sierra wasn't like other ladies and the longer that stupid message remained, the lesser my chances with her. Fuck!
Just as I grabbed my phone, Jackson's name flashed on the screen. “Hey man,” I said, taking the call, but I was met with Jackson's hostility instead.
“Arthur, if anything happens to my sister, I will fucking kill you,” he threatened.
