Sierra's POV
Arthur sounded believable. I wanted to believe he was saying the truth. After all, Jackson's words still rang in my head, but I could not completely take it. What if Arthur had changed his mind last minute and did not inform Jackson?
I knew I shouldn't care. This has nothing to do with me. It was his life. His relationship and, most importantly, his fiancée. “Let go,” I tried to pull my hand off his grip, but he only tightened his grip, pulling me and walking.
After a while, he stopped and pushed me to the wall. “Where are you taking me?” I asked.
“You want the truth, right?” he asked, his gaze fixed on me.
“I don't need the truth. It's your relationship,” I told him.
“I will show you the truth,” he said, then turned around, pressing the button of the elevator.
He faced me once again. “Sierra, allow me show you the truth. Please,” he pleaded.
The look on his face made it hard for me to say no, and so I joined him in the elevator. We stepped out at the top floor, and he led me down the hall. He opened a door to a room, and we met two men, seated before so many screens.
They displayed footages from all around the restaurant. “Mr. Devan,” Arthur said, and one of the men looked over his shoulder.
A smile spread across his face as he stood up. “Mr. Arthur,” they shook hands. “It's been a while,” Mr. Devan said.
“How's your health?” Arthur asked.
“I'm fine now. Thank you for your help. What brings you here today?” Mr. Devan asked.
“I need to see a footage,” Arthur said.
Before he could say further, I pulled him by the arm to the side. “This is wrong,” I whispered.
“What's wrong about it? You need to see the truth. Maybe then you'd believe me,” he said.
“You can't just request for the footage. No matter how close you are to the security officer, this could get you in trouble.”
My words and fears didn't seem to bother him as he smiled. “It's okay, Sierra. I own the restaurant,” he told me.
I relaxed. No wonder he was so confident. “Get the footage,” Arthur told Mr. Devan, who dived into it.
It took a few minutes with Arthur informing him of the date, time and specific room of the restaurant. “We cannot provide an audio footage right now,” Mr. Devan said.
“The video will be just fine,” Arthur said. “Pause,” he said once he got to the clip.
He turned to me. “Watch closely,” he said.
“Play,” Arthur said, and Mr. Devan pressed a key of the mouse.
Yvonne walked in confident, almost like she was in the right place, but Arthur, he looked… confused? The expression on his face was hard to explain. However, Yvonne headed to the door after only just a minute of being in the room but a few steps in and she tripped herself?
Arthur stopped her from falling. The expression on Arthur's face shifted from shocked to irritated as she wrapped her hands around his neck and tried to pull him in for a kiss.
“Zoom in,” Arthur said. “Pause,”
Arthur turned to me. “Do you see now?” he asked.
I turned to the screen. Yvonne made the move, but Arthur tried to stop her just before he called out to me. But I didn't listen. “I'm sorry,” I looked away.
Arthur took out some notes, passed it to Mr. Devan, and led me out of the room. He pushed me to the wall, locking me in with his hands. He grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him.
I would have looked away again, but he didn't let go. “Your anger is gone now, right?” he asked.
I said nothing. A gasp escaped my lips as he pulled me in by the waist. “I think I have made a mistake by showing you the truth. Now, you're back to being silent,” he said.
“I'm not,” I said.
“Then what's in that head of yours?” he whispered, his hot breath fanning my face.
“It's no-” he placed his finger over my lips.
“Tell me the truth, or I'll be tempted to kiss you right here,” he said.
A shiver ran down my spine. A part of me wanted him to. I doubted I would ever admit it openly, but I loved when he kissed me. I stared at him for a second, contemplating whether to tell him or not.
“Yvonne truly isn't your fiancée?” I asked.
“She isn't. That was the first time I was ever setting my eyes on her,” he said.
Why then would Yvonne lie to me? She was very confident. She told me to stay away and Shelly, was she in on this? Or was she also deceived? Even then, I could never understand why.
I did nothing to them. I was ready to stay away. I knew my body reacted to Arthur, but my heart… I wasn't too sure, but I was ready to try to stay away. Whatever was happening, I could not tell.
“What are you thinking?” Arthur asked.
I shook my head. “Yvonne told me she was your fiancée the day you found me at the bar. Shelly backed her up and…”
I tried to think. I had never met Shelly before. There could not be any reason why she would hate me to that extent. My only thought would be Yvonne. I was tempted to ask.
“And what?” Arthur asked.
“Shelly tried to run me over.” the words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it.
“What!”
