Sierra's POV
“What did you say?” Arthur asked, his brows raised, his expression a mix of anger and shock.
I shook my head. I should not have said that. “It's noth-” I tried to speak, but he stopped me.
“It's okay. Let's go back to our table,” he said, taking my hand and leading me back to our table.
As we walked, I could only see the back of his head. I was glad he dropped it, but I wasn't sure about his reaction. When we got to our table, he took out a chair for me, leading me to sit.
“I need to do something. I'll be back,” he said.
I gave him a soft smile, which he responded to and left. My gaze did not leave the direction he walked away in as I tried to wrap my head on if he was going to ask again once he returned.
I didn't want to talk about it. Arthur returned to the table with an apologetic smile as he took a seat across from me. “I'm sorry. Where were we?” he said, signaling the waiter to serve our meals.
All the while we ate, I watched him. He brought up topics to talk about, completely ignoring the accident. With other conversation topics, I soon forgot about it, focusing on the handsome biker before me.
The way he looked at me made something in my stomach flutter. This was the longest we had been together and every bit of it I loved. But why the doubts? What I was seeing wasn't real, I had to tell myself.
I've been hurt before, and so I needed to end whatever these feelings were before it ruined me… again. “Thank you for the meal. I'll head home now,” I said, slowly getting on my feet.
Arthur placed his hand over mine, stopping me. “Hold on,” he said. “I didn't just want to resolve the misunderstanding. There's something else,”
I perched on the seat, ready to leave at any time. “What is it?” I asked.
“I-”
“Arthur, my man,” someone interrupted.
It was a man. He seemed to be in his mid-twenties with dirty brown hair. He tapped Arthur on the shoulder with a big smile. “I guessed I would see you here. Hello pretty, can I take a seat?” he turned to me, already pulling a chair.
I gave him a soft smile as Arthur spoke. “Why are you here?” he did not hide his annoyance.
“Chill dude. In two days, Carol and I will throw a party for our anniversary. You're invited,” the man said.
“Ian, did you forget how to send a text?” Arthur asked the man.
“Come on, dude. Inviting you in person shows you are important,” the man named Ian said.
“Okay, noted. Can you leave now?” Arthur said impatiently.
“Relax, I just got here,” Ian said, filling Arthur's empty glass with wine. “I need to-”
“Come on, Sierra,” Arthur reached out his hand, getting on his feet.
I took his hand, rising. “We'll leave you to enjoy,” Arthur said and led me out of the restaurant.
He led me to his car and opened the passenger door for me. “I brought my car,” I smiled softly.
Arthur thought for a second, then nodded. “I'm sorry for the interruption. I'll lead you to your car then,” he said.
The walk to my car was quiet. I occasionally stole a look at him, but said nothing. I turned to him once we reached my car. “Here's my stop,” I said
He nodded. “Do you mind going with me to the party?” he asked.
I chuckled nervously. “I don't think you would want me there. What if I embarrass you?” I said.
Vance never took me out for any event. Being a manager of a huge production company, partnership events were always held. Not once did he take me with him. The one time I tried to get him to, he made sure I could never do it again.
“Who exactly do you think you are? The ladies there are from generations of wealth, smart, alluring, beautiful and you? You are nothing. I will not let you disgrace me at such an important event,” he had said.
I could still feel the pain that sipped through me when he pulled my hair, warning me never to repeat my mistake. Arthur took a step forward, locking his gaze with mine. “Come with me to the event. I want to take you with me,” he said.
I couldn't argue and stroked a nod. He smiled and opened the door for me. Arthur stood there watching until I could no longer see him. Arriving back at home, the lights in the living room were on.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Jackson asked the moment I stepped into the room.
My brows knotted as I took off my jacket. “You told me to hear him out. I didn't know I needed to inform you when I step out of the house,” I said.
“That's not what I'm talking about,” he said, making me confused. “Shelly tried to run you over, and you didn't see it fit to tell me,” he added, his voice filled with disbelief.
I sighed, realizing Arthur had told him. “It wasn't important.” I shrugged, trying to downplay it as much as possible.
“Not important? My girlfriend almost killed you, and you say it's not fucking important? Sierra, listen to yourself,” Jackson half yelled.
“I'm not dead. I was able to step out of the way before she hit me,” I said.
“Why? Why did you keep it a secret? If Arthur hadn't told me, would you have?”
I shook my head. “I wasn't trying to keep it a secret. I really didn't want to cause a fight between you two,” I said.
Jackson stared at me, shocked. “I don't care! Shelly tried to kill you, and you are worried that it would ruin our relationship? For fuck's sake, it will,” he said, then exhaled, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
“I'm pushing this and don't even bother about trying to stop me. We've broken up, and I'm so glad we are,” Jackson said.
“Did you break up with her because of me? Listen, I believe it was Yvonne. Shelly might have been manipulated to believe she was doing the right thing,”
I knew Shelly put me in danger, but I was ready to give her the benefit of the doubt. “No, Shelly isn't manipulated in any way,” Jackson sighed. “She is doing it because of Arthur,”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Shelly is in love with Arthur,”
