                    Arthur’s POV
The tension in the room the moment I stepped in did not go past me. My gaze flicked from Neil to Sierra, who looked away the moment my eyes came on her. “What’s going on?” I repeated my question.
Neil raised his hands. “Nothing, only speaking with my sister-in-law,” he winked at me.
I squinted at him, not buying his calm demeanor. “Why are you here?” I asked, and he shrugged.
“To catch up with my bro,” he said.
“Get out,” I ordered.
He opened his mouth to argue, but I shot him a look and kept shut and walked out of the suite. I turned to face Sierra, but she was headed for the bedroom. “Sierra,” I called out to her, but she didn’t stop.
In the bedroom, she grabbed her purse and was headed for the door. “Hey,” I blocked her path. “What’s wrong? Did he say something to you? I’m sorry,”
“He said nothing. I want to leave,” she tried to move past me, but I pulled my hand out, blocking her path.
“You can’t leave,” I told her.
“Why? Am I trapped here now?” she asked, sounding offended.
I sighed. “That’s not what I mean, Sierra. The blizzard hasn’t stopped. You can’t leave right now. Give it a few hours,”
She stared at me for a moment, then walked past me but didn’t walk out the front door. Instead, she threw her things on the armchair and took a seat. “Would you like to eat something? I sent for a meal but they must be cold by now. I’ll order something else,” I told her.
She said nothing, but I placed an order for a meal. Room service came in with the fresh meals, taking the previous one with them. Sierra only stared at the food, not making any attempt to start eating.
“If you are mad at something I did, I’m sorry. Don’t take it out on the food,”
I wasn’t sure if she was fine, but she picked up the plate and began eating. She said nothing to me even after the meal was done. She occasionally stared out the window. It seemed she really wanted to leave.
“Where did you go?” she finally spoke.
“Um… due to the blizzard, I had to oversee some cautionary measures for the resort,” I explained.
She turned to me, her eyes red. My heart dropped. I quickly took a seat beside her, holding her close. “What is it?”
I tried wiping the tears that escaped her eyes, but she swatted my hands away. “Why did you tell him we had sex?” her voice was hoarse due to the restrained emotions.
I frowned. “I didn’t,” I replied, but she shot up from the chair.
“Then how then did he know?” she barked, more tears rolling down her face.
“I didn’t. I assure you,” I said, standing.
She looked away, sniffling. “Sierra,” I tried to hold her, but she shoved me away.
“How did he know?” she asked.
“He lives next door. I’m guessing he must have heard us. Whatever he said to you is not the truth,” I said.
“How sure are you he had said something bad about you?”
“If it weren’t bad, you would not have been mad at me,” I grabbed her hand, gently making her face me.
I wiped the tears off her face. “I’m sorry if he was mean to you. Do not take whatever he said to heart. I’ll speak with him,” I said.
She stared at me for a moment. I could not tell what she was thinking, no matter how much I tried. She shook her head. “He didn’t say anything wrong. I overreacted. I’m sorry,” she said.
“I don’t think you did. You can ask whatever questions you like. I’ll answer them,” I reassured her.
The night went on smoothly. However, I could still feel Sierra was pulling away. I wasn’t sure why and each time I asked, she brushed it off as nothing. No matter how much I asked, it was the same.
I let her take the bed with new sheets, as she didn’t seem to want to be close to me. Neil had some explaining to do, but I could not leave Sierra right now. I sat on the armchair watching her and soon dozed off with my chin on my palm.
My phone buzzed beside me, jolting me awake. I stared at the clock for a minute, sleep fog taking a minute to wash over me. It was a few minutes past six o’clock. What could be so important they were all talking about?
Picking up my phone, I was met with numerous texts.
Arthur, that was a little too harsh on Maria, don’t you think?
Someone replied: She deserved it. But I didn’t think that Sierra chick was that important. How long will he keep up the façade? It seems Arthur really wants to hit.
I quickly sent a reply. This should you all speak about Sierra in that way or else.
My message quickly ended the nonsensical conversation they were having. I was about to turn off my phone when Rod’s message came in.
Tell me you didn’t do it.
Before I could reply, his call came in. “Do you know what you just did?” he asked, panicked.
I didn’t say a word. “You just ruined her entire career. Your father will not spare you if he found this out,” Rod said.
“Are you fucking listening!” he barked over the phone.
I pulled my phone away from my ears for a second and brought it back. “She hurt Sierra. She needed to be punished or she would run wild,” I said.
“She is backed by your father. He would see this as rebelling. He will ruin you!” he said.
I stared at Sierra’s sleeping frame, and I was only filled with conviction. “I’ll wait for the consequences so long as Marie is punished,” I said, and ended the call.
I'll do anything for Sierra. I would not sit back and let people trample on her because of me. A minute later, my phone rang. Speak of the devil.
