Sierra’s POV
I snapped my head over my shoulder before rising. Arthur truly looked like what Eve had described him as. The moment he got to where I stood, his gaze softened as he wrapped me around his arm.
He pulled away, giving me a smile. “How did you find me here?” I asked, searching his eyes.
“Jackson told me,” he replied, placing a kiss on my forehead.
“I frighten you, don’t I, Arthur?” Dexter’s voice cut through the ambiance.
He strode forward, his eyes blaring into Arthur, who held me tighter by the waist, pulling me to his side. This made Dexter chuckle. “You need to know you can’t stop me from having her, right? I always win, no matter how much you try,” he said, then turned to me.
“Hey, pretty. I came for you. Remember, we weren’t able to go on our date. Today is the perfect day,” Dexter said, reaching out his hand.
Arthur held me firm, but not tight enough to hurt. “She isn’t going with you,” he said, squinting his eyes.
Dexter took a seat and grabbed the bottle of beer, then filled a glass. “You know…” he paused, taking a sip of the beer but spitted it out with a frown. “That was horrible,” he muttered, tossing the cup back on the table.
He wiped his lips with the back of his arm before turning to me. “He hasn’t been honest with you. You might think of considering a relationship with him, but he is thinking of someone else,” Dexter said.
“Shut the fuck up!” Arthur barked.
Dexter scoffed. “I’m not scared of you, Arthur. I can show you the proof if you want one, but you just have to follow me.”
“You have no proof and you can’t have one because you are fucking lying,” Arthur said.
“I’m not here to play games with you, Arthur. I’m here to convince the young lady,” Dexter said.
I turned to Arthur. I wasn’t sure why I couldn’t believe Dexter. There were so many reasons to yet I didn’t. I still believed Arthur wouldn’t. “Explain,” I told Dexter.
“Remember, Maria,” Dexter said. “She is his fiancée but there is more,”
Arthur spun me around to face him. “It was an alliance agreement. The engagement has been called off, trust me,” he said.
“Then explain what you two were doing back at the amusement park last night,” Dexter said, a smug look on his face.
“Nothing,” Arthur said.
“It didn’t seem like nothing, Arthur,” Dexter said, and my chest tightened.
The look on Arthur’s face when he returned after speaking to Maria seemed so withdrawn and guilty of something I couldn’t pinpoint. What if Dexter was right, and he truly did something with Maria?
“Ready to come with me now? Or should I say more?” Dexter said, giving out his hand, but before I could consider it, Arthur smacked his hand away.
“I would do nothing to hurt you, Sierra,” Arthur told me.
“How can you be so sure? Remember, you two aren’t even dating, so there is no need for him to be loyal to you.” Dexter was like a voice in my head, forcing me to look in a direction I didn’t want to.
But he was right. There really was no reason for me to be upset about him being with some other lady out there, Maria or not. He was never meant for me, anyway. But it hurts. “Show us proof,” Eve finally spoke, rising from her seat.
She had been silently taking her beer all this while. “You claim he did something wrong while going after my friend, then prove it. We can’t go by your word alone,” she added.
“I have proof,” Maria walked over. “Hi, Arthur,” she waved her fingers, giving him a wink.
“And you are?” Eve asked, crossing her hands over her chest.
“Maria darling,” Maria responded, taking out her phone from her purse. “I did you a favour, Sierra. I brought Dexter along so you can stay away from my fiancée,”
“I am not your fiancée,” Arthur argued.
“You will be again, baby,” Maria said, then turned her phone to me.
On her screen displayed her with Arthur, under a tree. She trailed her fingers on Arthur’s chest, whispering something to him. Arthur sighed beside me, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Anything to say, Arthur,” Maria said, but Arthur stayed silent. “You see, proof that he belongs to me.”
“Won’t you explain, biker?” Eve said.
“I didn’t stand there like a fool because I wanted to. I… I had no choice,” Arthur said.
“You’re getting good at lying. What could possibly make you succumb to Maria if not your lust for her or possibly love?” Dexter teased.
Arthur took a step forward with tightened fists but held himself back. “Nothing I need to tell you,” he said, then turned to me. “I will explain everything to you later, but right now, you have to believe me.”
I stayed silent, trying to fight through logic and what I was feeling. But there was one fact that remained. I turned to Dexter. “I appreciate your effort, but there can be nothing between us. I would like it if you stay away from me,” I told him.
My eyes wandered to Maria, who had a glare sent my way, but I looked away. “Arthur is mine,” Maria said to me.
Arthur opened his mouth to speak but before the words could leave his mouth, Eve cut in. “Arguing with her won’t convince, Sierra,” she said, crossing the table to where we stood. “But I know what might. If you are up for it,” she added.
“What is it?” Arthur asked.
“A little test. If you pass then, she’ll believe you,” Eve said.
Arthur stared at Maria for a while. “Up for it, biker?” Eve said.
“I’ll do it,”
