Sierra’s POV
The next morning was chaotic. I kept a smiling face and, as expected, everyone else acted like nothing happened. It has been the norm since we returned home. They didn’t want to bring up Vance, so I would not get upset, but every time I felt I was hurting them.
I knew they cared about me, and it seemed like I was taking it for granted. Even then, I could not bring myself to talk about it. Not yet. I needed a little more time. It’s been a year since I parted from Vance and I thought I would get over it, but not yet.
“Mommy, can I bring this?” Elvis asked, bringing my attention back to him.
To take away the cold, he had on a jacket, a scarf around his neck and a beanie on his head. He held onto one of his action figures, showing it to me. “There will be a lot of snow. You could lose it,” I told him.
He shook his head, pouting. “I promise I’ll take care of it. I won’t lose it,” he said.
“If you lose it, you won’t get another,” I warned.
“Thank you, Mommy,” he said, skipping out of his room.
I shook my head, joining him out of the room. Dad and Jackson lifted the heavy things into the back of Dad’s truck. Dad always knew how to ensure we were comfortable, even in the outdoors.
“Sierra, I need help over here!” Mum yelled from the kitchen.
I rushed over and found she made so many snacks. “Mum, isn’t this a lot?” I said, staring at the delicacies scattered on the table.
“There will be a lot of families there. We need to hand out a few snacks, don’t you think?” she said with a smile.
“I know, but didn’t you have to spend a lot of time in here. And you didn’t even let me help you,” I said, placing the snacks in a cooler.
“You needed to rest. Plus, the boys kept me company. Especially Elvis. He sure is very skilled in the kitchen,” she chuckled.
I nodded. Elvis loved helping in all chores which was the complete opposite of what I thought when he began walking. “I wonder how long you all will keep letting me ‘rest’. Who knows, I might get lazy,” I joked.
Mum laughed. “It’s not a bad thing. I’m pretty sure Arthur wouldn’t mind,” she said, walking out the door with a cooler in hand.
“Mum!” I called out.
“Just joking, darling,” she yelled back.
I picked up one of the coolers and headed out to the garage. On getting there, Arthur arrived, tossing the keys to Jackson. “Hope you didn’t wreck it?” Jackson said, checking out his bike.
“You should be glad I returned it instead,” he said, then spotted Mum.
He rushed over. “Mum, let me help you with that.”
He took the cooler from Mum, helping her take it to the trunk of the car. “You aren’t riding with us, you know that, right?” Jackson yelled.
“My car would be here soon,” Arthur said.
I came to his side, placing the cooler down in the trunk. He helped aligned it properly. “Hey, Sierra. I know you didn’t expect for the whole family to come along. Mum found out and I can’t say no,” he said.
I nodded. “We needed some more family outing, so it’s fine,” I said.
A car honk grabbed our attention. “My assistant,” Arthur said, leaving for the car.
He spoke briefly with the man before returning with the car keys. “You’re back home, huh?” Jackson joined us, placing a hand on Arthur’s shoulder.
“Mum was persistent. It’s only for a few days. They promise to leave after Christmas,” Arthur said.
“I’m surprised she didn’t ask you to spend time with them,” Jackson said.
“She did,” Arthur replied, and Jackson raised a brow.
“I need help guys!” Mum yelled from the door.
Before Jackson could run off with Arthur, I held him back by the arm. He nudged his head, urging me to speak. “What was that about?” I asked.
“Oh, Arthur ran off to his suite because his parents evaded his house. It’s kind of their thing but it went back home a day ago,” Jackson said.
“Isn’t he going to spend time with his family?” I asked.
Jackson sighed. “From the looks of things, no,” he briefly said and joined Arthur to help Mum.
I stood at the side with Elvis, watching Mum coordinate with Dad. Elvis was eager to join, but the things were just too heavy for him to join in. Once the trunk was fully loaded, Dad shut it, tapping it. “All set!” he said.
“I need to do something. I’ll be back,” Arthur said, then turned to Jackson, nudging his head to the house.
They both walked back into the house, but I was curious to know what they wanted to do. I took a step forward, but then Mum spoke. “You’ll ride with Arthur,” she said.
“Why? There will be enough space for all of us,” I said.
“You don’t expect our host to ride alone, do you?” Mum said.
“He can ride with Jackson,” I argued.
“And I said, you will. Come Elvis,” she said, stretching out her hand for Elvis.
“Bye Mommy,” Elvis waved with a smile, following Mum to the truck.
Dad helped them with the door, giving Mum a hand to get into the car and carrying Elvis off the ground to get to the step. I turned to the house and Jackson stepped out with a smile on his face.
He walked past me without a glance. “Where’s Arthur?” I asked.
Without stopping, he replied, “On his way out,”
“Jackson, get in. They’ll catch up to us later,” Mum told Jackson.
They all left soon after, leaving me standing before the house, watching the door for Arthur to step out. However, ten minutes went by and Arthur was still in the house. With another ten minutes of waiting, I could not wait anymore. I went in search of him.
