Sierra’s POV
My legs were wobbly as I helped myself out of the boutique. My heart was racing and tremors filled my fingers. Once I stepped out, I released my breath, trying to calm my racing heart.
I swallowed, holding my chest. “Where did that come from?” Eve asked beside me.
I shook my head. “I have no idea. I just… did it,” I said.
I wasn’t drunk or I would have blamed it on that. Why exactly did I even do that? Did I fall into a trap? I felt completely different. “That was awesome,” Eve said with a wide smile.
“It wasn’t,” I said.
“I’m telling you it is. You need to stand up for yourself. Even though you have nothing with Arthur, that doesn’t mean they can easily bully you when they see you. Don’t show them your weak side,” Eve said.
“But I am weak. What if they retaliate?”
“If they retaliate, I am right here with you. No one dares bully you,” Eve said, tapping my shoulder.
I stared down at my fingers, that were still shaken up from the audacity I showed. It was fortunate I didn’t sound like I was losing my voice, but I doubted I would be able to keep that up.
Would my words stand as a challenge to them? “Oh, Sierra, what the fuck came over you?!” I exclaimed in my head.
It seemed Eve read my expression and sighed. “I thought you took my advice about Arthur,” she said.
“Even if I did, I can't stand those ladies. I’m nothing to them. If they truly set their hearts to it, they can get Arthur,” I said.
For some reason, I felt my heart ache from that thought. Yvonne and Maria were models. They truly could get Arthur. If I lose, I would be the laughingstock of the entire village. The more I thought about this, the more I was filled with regrets.
“You sound like you have fallen for him,” she said, giving me a look.
“I haven’t,” I said.
I would keep up this lie until it was true. I couldn’t fall for Arthur. That would be a mistake. I cannot be in his world. Or maybe he wouldn’t want me in his world. His face flashed behind my eyes and his words rang in my ears.
They all made my heart flutter, yet I had to pull back. It was always a thing with celebrities to go back home and have some fun with some ladies. There was nothing serious in them.
Arthur most certainly saw me that way. That was the only reason he would want me to use him. After all, it was a fun activity for him. “You sure are stupid, Sierra,” I said to myself.
Why did I have to think about this just after challenging two ladies I would definitely not be able to beat? “Even if you don’t like him, use him, Sierra. For now, he is paying you attention. Use it to make them feel pain. Don’t slack,” Eve said, taking my hand.
The next day came rather quickly. Just when I needed the night to be long, it chose the opposite. Not only was I stupid enough to tell Arthur I would ride with him on his bike today, but I offended two people that had the upper hand to win against me.
I sluggishly got out of bed, slowly carrying out my tasks, wishing that the day would magically come to an end by the time I was done, but that was only what it was — a dream.
I went down for breakfast. “Good morning, Mommy,” Elvis greeted with his face stuffed with so much food.
I rushed over, worry lines on my forehead. “Why are you eating so fast? Slow down,” I said, grabbing a tissue. “Spit them out,”
Elvis reluctantly did so. “I need to eat fast, mommy,” he pouted.
I turned to Mum and Dad, who shrugged. “It’s only a spoon more. He can do what he wants,” Dad said.
I didn’t bother trying to speak with them. “What is the rush?” I asked.
“My friends are waiting for me,” Elvis replied.
I took a seat beside him. “Friends? You have friends?”
Elvis hummed with a smile. “Who?” I asked.
“The neighbour’s kids,” Mum replied.
I turned to Elvis with a smile. Back in the city, Elvis barely had any friends. He only attended class events if it were necessary. A few times he was bullied for it, which was one of the many reasons he had so much action figures to play with while I was busy and didn’t need him to give me a hand.
I was more than happy to know he was at least making friends. “Can I see them?” I asked and Elvis nodded, jumping off the chair.
He grabbed my hand and led me to them. They were lovely kids, and they seemed to really love Elvis’ company. Their parents wanted me to stay for some snacks, but I had a little something to take care of.
I took a rain check and grabbed a cab to Arthur’s penthouse. Elvis helped me with a little strength to do this. He was getting settled in while I was still questioning everything, which was only holding me back.
I knew that, but… No.
Fear has kept me in this position for way too long. I would take his lead and get it over with. It’s a bike ride, and it’s using the biker to get better. There was nothing better than that to feel alive once again.
I rang the doorbell and waited only a minute before I heard Neil’s voice. “Come in!” he yelled.
I turned the knob and walked in, but the scene that met me in the living room felt as though I was interrupting something.
