Arthur's POV
Her slap sure knew how to sting. I rubbed the spot to soothe the pain. “You don't get to just apologize, you know!” she scolded.
I nodded. “I know and I'm sorry,” I said.
She sprung up from her seat and walked off. Quickly, I followed her, grabbing her hand as we got to the hallway. “Give me a moment to explain, Sierra,” I said before she could pull away.
She relaxed, but looked away from me. “I called so much, but you ignored them all,” she muttered.
“It wasn't intentional. I had to leave my phone at home to handle some things,” I told her.
“Not only did you stay silent for hours, you made me look like I was being with another man in front of everyone. Maybe, we should-”
I covered her, pinning her to the wall. “Do not say that. I'll correct it, I promise,” I said.
“Why didn't you say anything, then? Why tell me here?”
Her words and tone felt like a thousand needles were being pushed into my heart. “The contract ends by the new year and until then I cannot reveal my identity or the contract can't be renewed,” I told her.
The contract with the president is not exactly an easy one to deal with. With how much I needed it, I could not afford a mistake. I resisted the urge to say something, and I almost lost it being trapped behind my helmet.
Her eyes searched mine. I had no idea what she was looking for, but I could only hope she found it. She nodded, looking away. I held her chin, guiding her head to look at me.
“Talk to me, Sierra,” I said.
“I feel guilty,” she said. “You wouldn't want to leave the name you've built for yourself if I wasn't involved,”
“I'll admit, you are the reason I've taken this step. If I hadn't met you, I would not have gone ahead with this,” he held her face. “But it isn't a bad thing,”
I sighed. “I would admit I was a coward. I was ready to let my father do whatever he wanted, even though for the past three years I had the means to override him. Stop him from controlling me until he wanted to do it with you.”
“He only wanted you to stay away from me,” she said.
“And that I cannot do,” I said firmly.
“Why? Our relationship is not defined,”
“I love you, Sierra. I can't see myself not being with you. My father trying to pull us apart only makes me upset. I know you find it difficult to believe me, but I'll keep trying to convince you,” I told her.
“I'll do everything to keep you, Sierra,” I said, lifting her chin.
Her eyes rested on my lips for a second before moving back to my eyes. I leaned in, those lips of hers calling out to me. Just before our lips could touch, I heard Rod.
“Oh, Arthur. Found you,”
I pulled away from Sierra as we both straightened up. I gave him a small smile as he approached, files in his hand. “What's up, Rod?”
“I don't think I can hand this to your new manager. Why don't you take it and do it?” he said.
I never knew Rod could be this emotional. “Why can't you do it? I'm sure he wouldn't mind,” I said, teasing him.
“Yeah, I don't think so,” Rod said, trying to pass the documents to me.
I raise my hand, avoiding it. “No need to give it to me. My manager already has it,” I said.
Rod raised a brow. “Oh... okay,”
He was truly finding it difficult hiding his emotions. It was time I stopped teasing him. “Rod, you are my manager,” I told him.
“Yeah, for now, until you officially take on Rider K,” he said.
“You are Rider K's manager,” I announced.
“What? The government would-”
“I know it's not the norm, but it is now. I was given an opportunity to choose, and I chose you. He was quite impressed, so you will be Rider K's manager once the contract is renewed,” I told him.
Rod took a step back, staring down at the documents in his hands as a smile came on his face. He raised his head, his smile gone with an indifferent expression, but the lines of his lips were trying to break free.
“Why didn't you tell me?” he asked.
“I wanted to mess with you,” I shrugged.
He pointed, then sighed as his smile returned before hugging me. Not new, but it felt different. “Don't do that again,” he said, pulling away. “I'm going to have a drink,”
Once he was gone, I turned to Sierra. “You almost gave him a heart attack,” she said.
I shook my head, wrapping my hands around her waist. “Almost. I wanted to tell him about the signing, but he was close to having a heart attack, so I told him now,” I said.
Rod barely showed a lot of emotions. It was fun seeing him crack a bit. Now I was sure he was completely human. “Now, where were we?” I said, lifting her chin.
She covered my lips as I leaned in. “What is it?” I asked.
“I haven't forgiven you yet, so no kisses,” she said, folding her arms and looking away.
“I apologized,” I said, my tone pleading.
“Not enough,” she said.
"Alright, what can I do to get you to forgive me? Anything, I'll do anything you ask,” I said.
I watched her raise her head, thinking, then a smile spread across her face. Compared to a few weeks ago, her glow was radiating right now. Her eye bags were nonexistent and the sadness that always danced in her eyes was gone.
She was a beauty. She snapped her fingers, then turned to me. “You said anything, right?” she asked, and that twinkle in her eyes as much as I loved it, I feared what she had installed for me.
“I heard Carol is throwing a party. Let's go,” she said, taking my hand.
I followed her. I was eager to see what she had for me.
