                    Sierra's POV
Once I spotted the person's shoes, I swung the shovel, hitting the man's head with as much force as I could muster. “Ah!” the man screamed.
“That serves you- Richard?” I dropped the shovel, letting it fall to my side.
I ran over to Richard, who held the back of his head, the very spot I had hit. He fell to the ground, groaning in pain. “I'm so sorry,” I said, holding his arm.
I frantically looked all over him. “Sierra?! Are you okay?” I heard Arthur's voice through the speaker of my phone.
I had dropped it earlier. Elvis picked it up and ran over to me. “Arthur,” I called out.
“What's wrong? Are you okay? Where are you?” he sounded panicked.
“I'm at an alley,” I said, looking around.
“What! Why?! Did something happen to you? Tell me where you are. I'm coming over,” I heard him rushing out from wherever he was.
I shook my head. “That's not important. I just hit Richard and he is bleeding. I need to call an ambulance. Meet me at the hospital,” I said.
“Why did-”
Before Arthur could finish speaking, I grabbed the phone from Elvis and ended the call, dialling emergency services immediately. They soon arrived, and we were moved to the van.
In the hospital, Richard was pulled away into the hospital ward while we waited at the door. Minutes later, and I heard Arthur burst through the entrance of the hospital, heading for us.
He held my arm, searching my body frantically and then at Elvis. “Are you two okay? Are you hurt?” he asked.
“I'm fine, Uncle, but that Uncle isn't,” Elvis said, squeezing his face.
“What happened?” Arthur asked me.
I explained everything to him from the moment Elvis went missing until when I noticed someone following us and my defense. “I was really scared. I didn't think it could be him,” I said, and I found Arthur smiling.
I slapped his arm lightly. “Why are you smiling?” I asked, offended.
Before he could answer, the doctor stepped out of the ward. I rushed to him. “Is he okay, doctor?” I asked, my brows creased in worry.
The doctor nodded. “He is fine. We had to stitch him up. He will be fine,” the doctor responded.
“Can I see him now?” I asked.
“He will need to be moved from the emergency unit. Once that is done, you can feel free to see him,” the doctor said and walked away.
A few minutes later, and we walked into Richard's ward. He looked pale and drained. A pang of guilt filled my heart. I should have been careful. “Richard,” I called as I stepped closer.
Slowly, he fluttered his eyes open. “Sierra,” he said with his voice cracked.
He tried to sit up, but I rushed to him, keeping him down on the bed. “Lay down. You shouldn't move so much,” I said.
I grabbed a glass from the side and filled it with water before helping him take it. “Thank you,” he muttered.
“I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hit you. I didn't think it was you,” I apologized.
He held my hand. “It's okay. I'm glad you have a good fighting instinct.” He gave me a reassuring smile.
“Yeah, remember that when you try stalking someone like a creep,” Arthur fired at him.
I shot him a look, but he only rolled his eyes. Richard smiled. “He is right. I should not have been following you around,” he said.
“Why did you, though?” I asked, genuinely curious.
Richard retracted his hand, giving me a smile. “You won't believe this, but I wanted to know what you liked to give to you. I got a necklace, but I wasn't sure if you would like it,” he gestured for the bag on the drawer at the side.
He had been holding it when I hit him. He sat up, grabbing the bag. In it was a jewelry box. “My plan failed, but I'm hoping you'll like it. Hopefully, it would be worth the hit,” Richard said, rubbing his bandaged head.
“Maybe you should have asked like a normal person. That wack in the head should reset your brain,” Arthur fired again.
“Arthur!” I scolded, but it didn't have any effect on him.
I shook my head, turning to Richard. “Open it,” he urged with a smile.
In the box was a beautiful diamond necklace. It was stunning. “This looks expensive,” I said.
Richard nodded. “I spent most of my savings on it,” he chuckled. “Do you like it?”
I nodded. “But I can't take it,” I said.
I tried to give it back, but he held my hand. “No need for that. I don't mind. I really want to show you how much I appreciate you,” he said.
"You don't need to do that with an expensive gift,” I said.
“Please take it. I wouldn't be happy if you didn't,” Richard said.
“Fine,” I reluctantly said, placing the necklace back in the box.
“Let go of her hand,” Arthur said, walking over.
I hadn't noticed Richard still holding my hand. He smiled, reluctantly taking his hand off me. Arthur picked up the necklace, examining it with an unimpressed expression.
“You call this an appreciation? I can give her something better than that,” Arthur said.
Richard laughed nervously. “This is the most I could get. I can't really beat you when it comes to something expensive,” he said.
I snatched the necklace from Arthur, placing it back in the box before slamming it on the drawer. “Elvis, stay put,” I told my son before dragging Arthur out by the arm.
As we walked out, a nurse went in with a tray of medications. “Why do you keep speaking to him that way?” I asked.
“How am I speaking to him?” Arthur tried to act ignorant, but I gave him a look.
He sighed, holding my arm. “Don't you see it, Sierra? That guy is suspicious. You two know each other, yet he needed to 'follow'” he air quoted, “you around to know what you like,” he said.
“It was an honest decision. You don't need to overthink it,” I said.
There was nothing suspicious about Richard's behavior. He just cared and made a mistake. “There is every cause to overthink it,” Arthur said.
“You're just being jealous,” I told him.
“Maybe I am.” Arthur didn't argue about that.
I sighed. “Stop this, alright?”
“Excuse me, are you Sierra?” the nurse asked, stepping out of the ward.
We turned to her as I nodded. “I am,” I replied.
The nurse smiled. “Please come with me to pay up your husband's bill,” she said.
“Husband?” I said, glancing at Arthur.
The nurse nodded. “The patient said you're his wife,”
