                    Sierra's POV
“Wife?” I muttered, glancing at Arthur, who was red in anger.
“See what I'm saying?” Arthur said, pointing at the door. “He is up to no good.”
I turned to the door, wondering why Richard would do that. Yes, he had once confessed to me, but I had turned him down. It's been so long. Why then would he do something like that?
“I'll handle the bill,” I said to the nurse, who smiled and walked off.
“You're seriously going to let this slide? Why pay the bill anyway? Wasn't he the one who acted like an idiot?” Arthur said.
“I hurt him. I need to pay,” I said and headed for the reception.
Arthur would only keep getting angry if we continue talking about it. Once I was done paying up, I returned to the ward. The tension was high in the air.
“Mommy,” Elvis ran to me, hugging my legs. “Do you want to get married to that man?” he pointed at Richard.
I shook my head, crouching down. “You don't have to worry about that, sweetie,” I reassured him, pressing a kiss on his forehead.
Up on my feet, I turned to Richard. “Why did you lie about that, Richard?” I asked.
Richard adjusted himself, looking apologetic. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. The nurse seemed to be flirting with me and I felt uncomfortable, so I had to lie,” he explained.
“You could lie with anyone else. Why Sierra?” Arthur questioned, his rage evident in his tone.
“That could have worked, but if she knew my wife was around, she would back off easily. I didn't think it through and just let it spill. I'm really sorry, Sierra,” Richard said.
I breathed out, accepting his explanation. It wasn't far-fetched. “Fine, but no more,” I said to him.
“Seriously? Such flimsy excuse and you took it without a second thought,” Arthur said.
“He didn't mean it and he has apologized,” I defended.
Arthur opened his mouth, glanced at Richard, then shut it, taking a deep breath. “You know what? Fine,” he said and left the ward.
I tried to call after him but stop myself. He needed time to cool off, anyway. Richard didn't mean any harm. “I'll need to get Elvis home. I'll return with some food for you,” I told Richard before leaving the hospital.
I returned with freshly made meals, which Richard appreciated, but as I watched him eat, I could not take off the feeling that Arthur was right. Hesitantly, I asked, “Richard, why did you come to the village?”
“I came because of you. It's the holidays and spending time with you would be nice,” Richard smiled.
“Richard, you know I told you I don't feel the same for you. I appreciate you for helping me with my divorce, but I don't love you,” I said.
“You like Arthur, don't you?” his voice dropped.
I sighed, nodding. “It actually doesn't matter. All I'm saying is, you need to stop this,” I said.
Richard smiled, placing the plate down. “Actually, I like someone. She... she is currently in the city. I'm still thinking of how to confess to her,” he said.
“Really?” I asked, shocked and excited by that.
Richard nodded. “Promise you'll help me get her,” he said.
Without hesitation, I agreed. I was almost scared Arthur was right, but since he loved someone else, then there was nothing to worry about. “Right now, I am here as your friend. I thought you'd need company since you didn't have a lot of friends back in the city,” he chuckled. “Now, it seems I was wrong,”
“Oh, we can still spend time together,” I assured him.
“Sierra, I know this might be a little out of place for me to say but I think you should stay away from Arthur,”
My smile dropped. “Why?”
“Don't you know about him? The biker that fucks and dumps. You just got divorced. He couldn't be interested in you in any good way. Let him go for your safety.”
“You sound like he is going to hurt me. He won't. Plus, Arthur has given that life up. He is really loyal,” I said with a smile.
So far, Arthur has been the best. There was no reason to judge him. “That's what he has made you think. People like that don't just change, Sierra. I'm saying this because I've watched you suffer. I don't want you suffering some more,” Richard said.
I stayed quiet. “I didn't want to say this, but he told me so much I really don't think it would be appropriate to say to you,” he said.
I smiled, waving my hand. “It's not a problem. After all, we aren't dating. I don't expect so much from him,” I said.
“You sound like you want more. If you don't believe me, then I'll prove it,” Richard said, taking out his phone, and he played a recording.
I swallowed, listening to Arthur's voice through the speaker. I held onto my dress, stopping myself from showing it hurt. “He returned when you left earlier. I had a feeling and recorded him. I knew I had to find a way to prove to you he is horrible,” Richard said.
I forced a smile, swiping off the tear that escaped my eyes. “I really do not mind. I already told you. We aren't dating and we... we can never,” I said before leaving the ward.
Once the door shut behind me, I took in a deep breath. I folded my fists, trying to suppress my emotions. It wasn't important if he meant all that. We were nothing, right?
Just as I took a step forward, my phone dinged with a message. Tapping on the message, a short video played.
