Two days. It was a stark difference to be sitting in my room for hours when Trini wasn't here, and I felt like I somehow was feeling negative because I never truly appreciated the fact that she would keepe company.
Having Maya chat to me despite being my Doctor was nice but it just wasn't the same. First, I was alone more often because Maya had more shifts and as a result I was left alone more often. Second, it sucked that i had to sit here please and do nothing because it was now I was feeling the force of it.
" How's Trini, is she doing okay?" I asked Maya when she came to swap out my IV for another.
"She's doing okay I guess but I know it is killing her that she's doesn't have anything to do all day, and plus because of her background as a repeat offender, she's on house arrest and isn't allowed to leave her room for most days."
My eyes bulged and I swallowed, home arrest flashing in my eyes and I had to be pause because I didn't like the unpleasant memories coming to the surface.
"So she's not fine at all then," I drawled and Maya shrugged before saying,
"She'll get used to it, and besides, it's nothing really serious because the Alpha and his Beta especially were still somewhat gentle in giving the punishment. It could have been easily been much worse."
I settled back into the bed because Maya didn't seem like delving into deeper conversation as she worked, and her eyes were hyper focused on what she was doing the whole time.
"Sorry Wyn, I have a long shift and a hella of a lot of rounds to do so I can't keep you company."
"Why are you apologizing? It's fine, and besides you are doing your literal job." I cracked a smile even as I felt boredom creeping up on me, and I squeezed that chicken.
"I'll see you soon," she whispered before rushing out the door. I could still hear the click of her heels even though the door was closed.
Alone and bored, I decided to do the next best thing when you didn't have a lot of options left, sleep. And sleep I did.
"You are in the right path." I heard my grandfather say, his smiling eyes looking at me with so much pride that I felt my eyes grow wet.
"She must be dreaming because Wyn doesn't cry in her sleep." I heard another voice say, and it was coming from somewhere else. It wasn't from here, I could tell.
I felt a jolt the next moment on my side and that rocked me out of my dreams. My eyes fluttered and before they truly opened, I saw the faint outline of two people hovering over me.
"Surprise!" The voice from earlier, my very own Trini shouted and that jolted out any speck of sleep that might have still been in my eyes.
"Trini! Stop that."
"Sorry, sorry. She's fine see," she waved a hand in front of me and I didn't react, I guess that was the reaction she was hoping for because she turned back to Maya and gestured to me again, "see, I told you. Fine."
Maya's sigh was long and drawn out beforr she went about her duty.
"So, did you miss me?" Trini asked, leaning closer to me as she settled properly on the bed and my eyes widened a fraction. My body was waking up and now just realizing that Trini was sitting on the bed in front of me.
"Trini..."
"Yep, I know you're surprised but first answer the question." Her voice reminded me of those cartoons where the stingy character rubbed ther hands together as they stared at their massive fortune. It was a random and funny thought and I didn't know why it crossed my mind.
"I did," I whispered then spread my arms out for a hug and she took it. Her black curls pressed against my nose and I got a whiff of lavender from the mass of curls.
"Trini, not so tight." Maya told her as she removed my IV and Trini released me.
"Is your punishment over? I thought you would be asked to stay in your room for another week or so."
She shook her head, then answered, "no, it wouldn't have been possible because I work here and they need all hands on deck so my prolonged stay in my room was cut short."
"But..." Maya drawled out, a soft smile that on closer inspection looked a hint mischievous, the spark in her eyes also gave it away.
Trini's face scrunched, and I looked from her to Maya because I didn't understand what was happening.
"Am I missing something here?"
"Come on, go on and tell her everything related to it," Maya nodged, and Trini sent a soft glare to Maya.
"But," Trini snapped, much louder than necessary that the whole room went silent, "I'm bad from that wing of the hospital as well as some other parts of the pack till further notice." Her voice was just as sour as her face but Maya however had on the biggest smile I had seen on her.
"So you're banned from all these places? Geez Trini, what did you do?" Her shoulders sagged and she responded, "I have no idea because I didn't think exploring would get me banned."
Maya let out a laugh and Trini turned to her.
"And I don't understand what's so funny," I drawled and Maya sighed.
"Going to places you aren't meant to be in will get you banned."
"But I didn't take anything!"
"It doesn't matter Trini, but what's funny to me is how they speak of you like you are some hardened criminal."
"Ugh, I don't even want to remember that."
"It's fine. I'll remember it fondly for the both of us," Maya said and I choked on my laugh.
"It's not funny," Trini said flatly.
"It is to me though."
I watched their back and forth, entertained until they both settled down. Trini though was still glaring daggers at Maya who remained perfectly aware and smiled through.
"Did I mention you're getting discharged today?" Trini let out all of a sudden and everything went still.
