Trini smiled her, "I know something you don't" smile as she gauged my reaction. I glanced from her to Maya, and she also had a knowing smile on her face which got me thinking they must have planned this.
"... Wait... Is this why you've been forcing me to go out on walks?" I asked Maya, and her smile grew.
"Bingo."
"So the whole, it's to strengthen my legs was just garbage?"
"Now I didn't say that, it isss to strengthen your legs but it was a way for me to let you know you were getting discharged without telling you," she said, and I rolled my eyes.
"Think of it as killing two birds with one stone," she added again.
"You could have just told me you know, there was no need for the suspense."
"Oh come on now, don't be like that. We wanted to surprise you, and frankly, I'm surprised you didn't figure it out already because you're quite intuitive and should have picked it up," Trini said, her hand lingering thoughtfully on her chin as she spoke.
"Well forgive me for thinking it was just a harmless instruction from my doctor," I quipped, then fell back on the bed from frustration.
"It was a harmless instruction," Maya stated.
"Don't be mad, it really was harmless."
I sighed, my gaze fixed on the ceiling like it had suddenly garnered my interest. "I'm not mad, I'm just..." My voice trailed off because I couldn't quite describe what I was feeling.
It did feel good to know I would get out of here soon, but that didn't help the uncertainty that washed over me when Trini had blurted it out. As much as I had hated being in the hospital in the beginning, it had grown on me, and I had gotten used to seeing Maya and Trini as only companions. Even the plain white walls and ceilings had become something I was used to... But now, I was being thrust into the wonderful world of pack life again. For my sake, I hoped it would go well this time.
"Your just..." Trini drawled, then brought her face over mine and I sighed again.
"I'm just... I don't know, nervous, uncertain?"
"You're unsure about how the pack will be like aren't you?" Maya asked, and it was as if she had hit the nail on the head.
"Exactly, I don't know why I'm so worried. But I think if everyone at the pack is like you two, then there's nothing to fear right?" My question hung in the air, and my heart sank in my chest.
They both gazed at each other before Maya turned back to me, a more serious expression on her face. Any trace of the mischievous smile she had on earlier had been wiped off with a blank expression.
"The pack is nice, but just keep in mind that there are a lot of different people who live here and some may not be as open to new members as others are."
New pack members? It had never really crossed my mind to join another pack so soon but did I really have any options? I couldn't go back to my old pack and any others were just a big no.
"Other than that, pack life here is okay," Trini chirped in her cheer up voice, and again, I hoped for my sake that they were right.
"I'll keep that in mind, Maya, and thanks Trini. I feel a bit better now thanks to the both of you."
"It's nothing," Maya shrugged.
"We're here for you."
I smiled, sat up again then stretched my aching muscles. I had started exercising, but it would still be a while before I was at optimum condition.
I rolled both my wrists, then stopped. I looked down, seeing how empty they were, no IV or anything hooked up to my arms like before. Holy hell, this was really happening.
Trini threw the blankets off of me, and placed some nearly folded clothes in my lap, while Maya organized the equipment I had been hooked up to.
"You can go and change into that, it should be your size, but if it isn't, just let me know."
I looked down at the folded clothes, then back up at Trini as she pulled for me to stand up.
"Just how long have you both been planning this?" I asked, eyeing Maya as she went about her job.
Trini smiled one of those smiles. "A while."
"Now go get changed so we can get out of here. Aren't you the one who was always saying you were tired of your hospital room." Trini raised a brow at my frozen state and pulled a bit harder.
"Come on now, you should be over the shock factor now," she coaxed and I finally moved like she wanted me to, my legs feeling I was standing on pins and needles as they hit the cool ground. The sensation passed quickly but it felt weird that I experienced it every single time. Maya had said that it would pass as I started using my legs more and more, and honestly, I couldn't wait.
Trini settled into the bed while I shuffled my way to the bathroom, still slowly coming to terms with the fact that I would soon leave this hospital behind for good.
"Oh my..." I let out a yelp when I saw my reflection, and just outside the bathroom, footsteps barreled towards it and I heard Trini's concerned voice.
"Are you okay in there? Is something hurting you?" She asked, and I groaned, thinking how I was going to explain being jumpscared by my own reflection.
"No, I'm fine."
"You sure, I could-"
"I'm sure. Just saw something that freaked me out."
There was a pause on the other side of the door and I heard Trini inhale, "Wyn..."
"Don't Wyn me, I'll tell you when I come out," I said firm, and i heard Trini murmur something quickly that i couldn't decipher, probably complaining that I was sending her away. She mumbled a quick okay, and I listened as the soft pads of her feet faded away from the door.
I turned to my reflection again and cringed. It really looked that I had been living in the hospital for weeks, my hair was all over the place, my skin was suffering, and my eyes looked tired for whatever reason even though I had slept a lot.
Another glance told me that just changing my clothes wouldn't quite cut it because I needed a full body shower, I needed to wash my hair too because it so desperately needed some love and I was going to give it to it. My skin too because I didn't want to look like a nightmare.
I turned back to the door and asked,
"Do you guys happen to have a bottle of shampoo nearby?"
