But it could... it could. My voice hitched in my throat as I stared at the person I had long to see since we had separated that night.
My brown eyed, brown haired night stared back at me with a cheeky smile on his face, just like I had remembered and I felt my eyes grow moist. I turned to Trini who had gone silent beside me, a more than wide side painted boldly across her face, and she looked about ready to burst from her smile alone.
My lips parted slowly, but no words came out. I just stared blankly as her eyes lighted up.
"Surprise," Trent whispered slowly, his voice passing through me and bringing back all sorts of memories.
"So, do you like it?" Trini asked, wiggling her eyebrows as her eyes bounced all over my face.
"... Wyn?" Trent called softly when he noticed I still hadn't moved from where I was. He reached out and wrapped a hand around my wrist, effectively jolting me from whatever world I had drifted off to.
My gaze wrapped over him again as if finally seeing him again, and they ran all over him to look for any changes.
"Trent," I whispered back, and faster than I had ever moved before, I launched myself at me, as I felt a single tear roll down my cheek. He caught me easily, and backed away into the room.
My brain was too fuzzy to realize Trini hadn't followed us in because my whole being was consumed with the image of Trent.
"You're okay... You're okay," I whispered into his neck over and over again, knocking it hard into my head that he was fine and healthy, and I'm sure the same went for Daisy.
He sat me on the bed, and held me as I cried into his shoulder. The heavy weight of guilt I had been carrying in my heart dropped, and I felt my chest go lighter. I breathed out deeply exhaling some of that pain that consumed me when he had escaped with Daisy.
For days, after I had woken up here, I had tormented myself with all sorts of thoughts about him. The worst of which was that he was out in a forest somewhere trying to fight off rogues and at the same time protect his sister, while i was here being treated like a china doll with some cracks on it already, any more shit to go through and that precious china doll would have broken.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. No more tears now, I'm here now," he said, his voice slipping through all my self pity, and I looked into his warm brown depths.
"You're here now," I parroted back, saying it out loud to make myself feel better.
"I sat up straight, and his hands fell away from me. I looked at him properly, my raging curiosity hitting me wave after wave.
As my gaze roamed over his face, I couldn't put my finger on it but I knew there was something different about him, if not physically, then mentally.
"Still staring at my beautiful face?" He smirked, and something sparked in me. He hadn't changed a lot like I thought, that much I could see.
I smirked back, my arm shooting out and aiming for him.
"Ouch! Wyn, what the heck was that for?" He groaned, rubbing the spot I had landed my hit on, and I just smiled triumphantly at his question.
He was still rubbing his arm when he added again, "are you going to answer at least? My arm still hurts by the way."
Good, I thought. I had put my all into that but so I had hoped as much.
"That was for not coming to see me right away when you knew I was in the pack hospital," I told him, then made a "hmph" sound and turned away.
"Oh come on now, you can't really be mad about that, I just wanted to give you a little surprise after you got your strength back," he stated and I eyed him with a less than impressed look on my face.
"It's like you want me to hit you again, how dare you say it was a "little" surprise?" I muttered, then raised my hand to do as I've said, and he leaned away from me, raising his hands in surrender.
"All right, geez, it's not a little surprise then," he agreed, and I plopped my hands back on my lap.
"Then why didn't you come to see me?"
"It's the Alpha. He wasn't allowing you to have any visitors so I had to content myself with waiting for whenever you woke up and was discharged from the hospital before I could see you," he explained, and I faintly remembered Trini saying something along those lines as well.
"Okay fine, that's that. But why did you decide to keep it a secret from me though, it would have saved me a lot of worrying about the two of you."
"I know, and I'm sorry, I really didn't think of it that way. I just wanted it to be a surprise. I didn't expect Trini to blow it out of proportion."
"That's just a nice way of putting it, she really tortured me with the damned "special someone that wants to see me" and almost made me pull out my hair from sheer curiosity alone," I let out, a hint of frustration flowing out with my words and Trent chuckled at my annoyed expression.
"She's really something," he muttered quietly.
"Okay, enough about surprises and the likes, tell me everything that happened after you and Daisy got away that night,"I said, then glanced around his room again.
"Speaking of which, where is Daisy anyway? And does she stay with you, because your room does not remotely look like where a five- year- old would stay."
"She should be at the daycare now, and no, she doesn't live with me. I'll fill you in on everything soon, but be patient."
"Yeah, my patience shaved away in my hospital room, and right now, I want to know everything, so don't miss out any details."
"Well, you better settle in for this one."
"I am settled. Now spill."
"Feisty," he breathed out.
I raised my hand, and he sighed.
"Oh for fuck's sake."
