Long story later, Trent sat back, his face expressionless as he stared into nothing. I had fallen quiet after quite literally wearing my heart on my sleeve as I poured out what had happened - including the sensitive bits that I didn't think I would share with anyone. I was over the conversation now, and I hoped he was too because if he asked about it further, I would panic and do something I shouldn't have.
"So, what now?" Trent's whispery voice filled the air a few moments later, I had turned away from him but I glanced at him in that moment. His eyes were still staring into a space with nothing, but his fists were clenched.
"... What now?" I parroted back to him. In truth, I hadn't thought about what else to do... What had been on my mind was to get away from my Father, and I had accomplished that. But what now?
"Do you plan on staying or...?" Trent's voice trailed into a question as he observed me through his peripheral.
"I'm staying," I said without hesitation. "Do you want to leave her?" I asked, and his cheeks flushed.
"Of course I want to say, I only asked to make sure we were in the same page since we had started off with being differing ideas."
"You've contemplated me saying no?" My question came out beside I could stop it, and Trent cleared his throat rather loudly before he answered.
"This pack and the people are really nice, but I kept it at the back of my mind that if you don't want to stay here, then Daisy and I would have to leave too." He said the words slowly to give them time to sink him, and I just stared hard at the side of his face. His jaw twitched, the only indication that he could feel me staring but he didn't say anything else.
I couldn't believe that he would abandon whatever life he had built here if I didn't like it here. I knew I shouldn't feel that way, but the warm feeling I had felt before grew exponentially, and my lips stretched on their own.
"Really?" I whispered, not knowing what else to say, and he gave me a slow nod.
"But what about the life you're already building here if I had said I was leaving?" I couldn't resist asking, and Trent's ears twitched, a small smile curling on his lips.
"Life?" He face took on a thoughtful expression, "I kept mostly to myself, I really only mingled a bit because of Daisy. She really couldn't sit in my room all day given how young she is. I've really just been waiting for you to wake up so I would know the next step to take," he explained.
I wanted to say something, but my mouth clamped shut the next moment. It's not like I had ever considered leaving. Even if I hadn't dreamed about my grandfather telling me to come here, I still would have because as corny as it sounded, this was where my destiny called to. I could feel it down to my bones that everything was right.
Silence stretched on in the room, and I took that time to study it a bit more. There was nothing much to see though, standard closet, a small desk and chair, the bed, a nice rug in the centre- that was basically all the furniture in the room. I would give it credit where it due since the colours of the room, hues of brown, and to no surprise, some hints of blue here and there. The room was decent sized so I didn't think there was anything to complain about in the department.
I found myself leaning back on the bed like Trent was doing and I brought my eyes to focus on the plain ceiling like he was doing.
"Do you feel it?" He whispered, and I turned to look at him. He had slowly started to sound more ominous as the afternoon progressed, and now I had to wonder if the Trent, goofy and overprotective was still in there somewhere.
"Who are you and what have you done with my goofy friend?" I let out and this time, his expression betrayed. He gave me a full fledged smile and muttered back to me.
"Goofy friend?"
"Okay, overprotective then?" He rolled his eyes and hissed playfully.
"Whatever."
"No but seriously, do you feel any different?" He asked, all traces of playfulness washing away from his voice like that.
I paused, breathing in and out slowly to try to see what he meant.
"... Uh?" A sound came out of my mouth, but that was it and Trent sighed.
"I'm taking about the bond to our pac- our ex pack," he rushed out after catching his own slip up, his face coloring a pretty shade of red that looked real good on him.
Post clarifying what he was talking about, and I didn't need to think or do much to know that I did feel different. When I had felt left they pack, my whole being was in pain, and I felt an ache deep in my chest that I couldn't find the cause of. It only grew the farther away I walked, and after breaching through the pack borders and stepping through another, there was this... Hollow in my chest that was demanding softly to be filled.
And I told Trent just that, and threw in a few how I was feeling moments in case I was just being over emotional and there was no such hollow, but Trent agreed with me.
"I feel the same. It's like there is this constant nagging in my chest that wants me to put something there."
I didn't know how pack bonds worked but I knew one thing for sure, and that is that Trent and I, even Daisy didn't belong to any pack and the longer we stayed without any pack, we risked going rogue ourselves.
"We have to join this pack." It wasn't a suggestion or a question, but something we both knew and they I had decided to voice out.
"Then we'll have to wait for the Alpha to get back."
"Right."
Trent smiled all of a sudden, and a frown found it's way in my lips.
"What's the smile for?"
"I guess now we really have to mingle," he muttered and I nodded.
He rose up from his bed just as there was a sharp knock on the door and he trudged over to swing the door open.
"About time."
