Lunawyn's Pov
I struggled against the restraints, my wrists and ankles bound by rough rope. A handkerchief gagged me, muffling my screams. Panic set in as I realized I was at the mercy of these strangers.
"You are safe with us now," one of them said, his voice low and gravelly.
I tried to respond, but only a muffled cry escaped. My eyes darted between the men, searching for any hint of kindness. But their faces were stone-cold, their eyes devoid of empathy.
As they dragged me out of the pack house, I stumbled, my legs weak with fear. The men's grip tightened, holding me upright. I felt like a captive, not a rescued person.
"Please," I tried to beg, but the handkerchief stifled my words.
One of the men, a burly figure with a scruffy beard, glanced at me with a mixture of pity and indifference. "You're coming with us, miss. It's for your own good."
I shook my head, desperate to convey my terror. But they just kept moving, their footsteps echoing through the night.
As we left the pack house behind, I caught a glimpse of the moonlit forest. The trees seemed to loom over me, like sentinels guarding a dark secret. I felt trapped, helpless, and alone.
The men's silence was oppressive, their presence suffocating. I strained against the restraints, but they held firm.
Where were they taking me? And what did they plan to do with me?
My mind racing with questions, I stumbled forward, a prisoner of these mysterious men.
We walked for what felt like hours, the darkness seeming to stretch on forever. My legs ached, and my wrists throbbed from the ropes. I stumbled, and the men caught me, their grip tightening.
"Easy, miss," the bearded man said, his voice a little softer. "We're almost there."
I nodded, trying to convey my gratitude, but my fear still simmered. Where were they taking me? And why?
As we crested a small hill, a faint light appeared in the distance. The men quickened their pace, their footsteps growing more urgent.
We approached a small cabin, its windows glowing with a warm, golden light. The door creaked open, and a figure beckoned us inside.
"Welcome," a low, smooth voice said. "We've been expecting you."
I was dragged into the cabin, my heart racing. The door shut behind us, and I was trapped.
The figure stepped forward, revealing a tall, imposing man with piercing eyes.
"Who are you?" I tried to ask, but the handkerchief still gagged me.
The man's gaze swept over me, his expression unreadable. He walked towards me and drag the handkerchief down to my neck.
"I'm Victor, the Beta." His words hang in the air
My eyes widened, shock coursing through my veins as I tried processing everything. "You're...you're supposed to be dead," I stuttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
Victor's expression turned somber. "I know what they said. But I'm very much alive."
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. "How?" I demanded, my mind reeling. "I saw your body at the hospital. They said you were gone."
Victor's eyes clouded, a hint of pain flickering across his face. "That wasn't me," he said, his voice low and even. "My attackers made a mistake. They killed an innocent person, thinking it was me."
My mind was racing. "But...why did you fake your own death?"
Victor's gaze locked onto mine, his eyes burning with intensity. "I had to. I needed to stay hidden to investigate, to find out who was behind the attack. And I couldn't risk anyone knowing I was alive, not even the Alpha."
I felt like I was living in a dream, where nothing made sense. "You mean...Alpha Luciano doesn't know you're alive?"
Victor shook his head. "No one knows, except for a select few. And now, you."
I was stunned, my brain struggling to process this revelation. "But why tell me?" I asked, my voice laced with suspicion.
Victor's expression softened, a hint of warmth creeping into his eyes. "Because, Lunawyn, I think you're in danger too. And I need your help to uncover the truth."
I was taken aback by his words, unsure of what to make of them. Could I trust Victor, a man who'd been presumed dead? Or was this just another manipulation?
As I looked into his eyes, I saw something there, something that made me wonder if maybe, just maybe, I could trust him.
But I wasn't ready to give in yet. "What makes you think I'm in danger?" I asked, my voice firm.
Victor's expression turned serious. "Let's just say I have my reasons. And I think it's time we talked about what's really going on."
Victor's words hung in the air, heavy with an unspoken urgency. I felt a shiver run down my spine as his eyes locked onto mine, burning with an intensity that made me wonder if I was in over my head.
"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "What's going on?"
Victor's expression turned grim. "There are those who want to harm you, Lunawyn. People who'll stop at nothing to get what they want."
I felt a chill run down my spine. "Who?" I demanded. "And why?"
Victor hesitated, as if weighing his words carefully. "I'm not entirely sure who's behind it. But I think it's connected to my attack."
I frowned, my mind racing. "But why would anyone want to hurt me?"
Victor's gaze never wavered. "You have something they want, Lunawyn. Something valuable."
I shook my head, confusion swirling. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Victor's expression softened, a hint of empathy creeping into his eyes. "I know this is a lot to take in. But I need you to trust me, Lunawyn. I'm the only one who can keep you safe."
I looked at him, searching for any sign of deception. But all I saw was sincerity.
"Okay," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'll trust you."
Victor's face relaxed, a small smile playing on his lips. "Good," he said. "Now, let's get you settled in. We have a lot to discuss."
