                    It was morning.
I had cried all evening and cried the better part of the night before falling asleep. I needed to pull myself together or I would fall apart before I could accomplish anything.
And I would definitely get my revenge on them. Hell would freeze over before I changed my mind.
"Open the door, I need to go for breakfast!"
But the door remained shut and I sighed. Weren't these good- for- nothing guards outside? I knew my father would not be calling them off anytime soon so they were definitely there.
"Open the damn door!"
I tried the door handle but it didn't budge. It was locked, like always.
I tapped my foot lightly as irritation flared through me. What was taking them so long?
Ten seconds. I would give them ten seconds and if this door remained locked, then only the moon goddess could stop me from ramming the door down.
One, two... Eight, nine...
The door swung open with a low creek and the smug face of the guard in charge poked in.
"Come on." His gruff voice called out.
I stepped through the door and shot a hot glare at him.
"What took you so long? Didn't you hear me practically screaming my voice off through the door?"
He only casted a disinterested glance my way as he locked the door behind me.
"Your father's orders." Of course it was.
A bitter taste rose in my throat at the mention of him.
"And what are his orders exactly?" I gritted out.
"That you should not be allowed to have breakfast the same time with the others." The guard replied.
It's not like I wanted to have breakfast with them anyway so thank fucking Lord. I could do without seeing his and Lykania's annoying faces.
The kitchen was a bit of a distance from my room so there was quite the walk. The guards had become literal shadows behind me too.
Everywhere I went, they were there too. And after the Lykania incident, I noticed the subtle shift in their eyes.
They looked at me as if I would bolt any moment from now. I mean, I would but I didn't want them looking at me that way.
The hallways had been silent and now I knew why. The kitchen was pouring with workers of the pack as they had their breakfast.
And immediately I entered, their loud chatter died down a notch and I swallowed when at least half the room turned to stare at me.
Still I held my head high even when some of them stared openly at me. It was tradition that you weren't allowed to stare brazenly at the Alpha or his family that way unless called upon but because my father had revoked my Luna's title, things had changed.
It made me less immune to the pack 's harsh scrutiny. But I wouldn't let it get to me or weigh me down.
Right now, I was too hungry to care. And as if agreeing with me, my stomach rumbled when I caught another whiff of fresh waffles and eggs.
The workers watched me like some kind of alien as I took a plate and piled it high with waffles. I swore you could hear a pin drop with how deathly silent it was.
I mean it wasn't everyday a member of the alpha family ate together with the workers, even if they were an outcast like me.
The room settled into a sort of normal or as normal as could be when I didn't react to their stares.
"Hurry up. You're supposed to be back in your room in an hour." The guard- I really should stop calling him "the guard" and find out his name. But it would be some other time.
"Can I just enjoy my breakfast in peace without you or your squad breathing down my neck?"
He gave me a pointed look but signaled the others to give me some space.
I ate quietly as the crowd in the room thinned until only a few workers were left.
I didn't show it but I watched the guards closely. The head guard whispered something to the one closest to him and left the room. That left three of them. Odd.
My plate was empty now but I remained seated. I didn't want to go back to my room. I was tired of being there and I would lose my mind if I continued spending every waking moment in there.
"Alright, up. We need to take you back to your room." Another guard said. He was younger than the head guard and had softer features. Light brown hair and eyes which looked familiar to me.
I don't know why, but I thought he looked too soft to be a guard.
"Can I just stay a little longer? My room gets really stuffy at times." I pleaded trying to appeal to his nice side. He had to have one right? At least he looked like he did.
His eyes widened a fraction and he looked like he was about to agree with me. I held my breath and prayed to the moon goddess as I waited.
A second guard, the one who was gossiping about me gave him a firm tap and shook his head. He had a sour look on his face and I couldn't tell if it was natural or if he just happened to always have that look on his face. The younger guard gave me a sad look as the second guard's gossip partner came over to me with a stern expression on his face.
Shit. I was so close.
"Get a move on." The second guard's gossip partner let out with a voice that sounded like something that belonged in the sewers.
He brought out a hand to clasp my good arm and I shrugged him off. A slimy feeling coming all over me with how close he was.
" Don't touch me, I'll walk myself."
They led me back in the direction of my room but I stopped in my tracks when I heard a set of familiar voices talking. Lykania and my father.
