I schooled my features even as I walked into his now empty office. It was as if Lykania and my mother had never been here.
The side door was closed but there was a telltale gap which told me they had gone through there.
I stopped a few feet away from my father's desk even as he strolled over and took a seat, his eyes regarding me cooly.
"I didn't hear you before," he commented and I kept my face stoic. He wasn't getting anything out of me.
"Well, I just got here." I lied through my teeth, apalled at how much I was changing.
If it was a few weeks ago, I wouldn't even think to lie to my father. He scared me just that much.
I didn't know if he believed me or not but he nodded all the same. His eyes trailed from my face to my gauzed up arm and my breath stilled in my chest.
I wondered what Lykania must have told him. No doubt she painted me as the villain because she was the oh so perfect daughter.
"How's your arm?" He asked before his eyes flicked back to mine. There was something sinister in his eyes but I couldn't put a finger on it.
My whole body recoiled as a cold shiver ran down my spine.
"It's getting better." I told him.
There was no point in lying because I knew Lykania had gone and spilled everything, truth or no.
"Good, good."
"Aha, ok what did you want again?" He asked like he hadn't heard me before.
"I told you already, I want you to tell the guards to let me leave my room. Someone could lose their minds being in the same four walls everyday."
My heart pounded in conjuncture with the clock as I waited for his response. And did he take his time with that.
I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from yelling at him, it wouldn't do me any good if I did.
"I mean, it's not like I want to leave the premises, I just want to be allowed to go to the garden, the library..." I rambled out.
"I don't know if you know this, but these are some of my favorite places. Even going to the kitchen is a load of stress, the guard in charge made sure of that."
"Nicholas?"
So that was his name.
"Well he can be a bit much at times but that is why I chose him.... Where are your guards anyway?"
"Outside the door."
"And speaking of "guards", do I really need that much of them?"
Two was reasonable, but four! He was treating me like some high class prisoner. If I was going to get my father to call off his dogs, it was now or never.
"Look, I'm not running away and this pack house is one of the most secure so I don't see-"
"That's enough!"
"Have you forgotten who you are talking to?"
In truth, I had.
My father slammed his fist on the desk and the whole office shook... Not again.
I held my injured arm right against my chest. I would not let a repeat of yesterday happen, not if I could help it.
"Who do you think you are to come in here and start demanding things of me huh."
"I'm sorry." I let out weakly as I glanced at the plain floor.
I hated that I was so weak when it came to him. But I had to be smart, I couldn't do anything. Yet.
Not with one bad arm and guards waiting outside to take me down at the slightest provocation.
"So you want me to let you roam around the house even though you are a security risk to everyone? What makes you think I trust you that much to agree to that?" My father's face was stone as he asked
"I just want a chance."
"A chance?"
A vein ticked in his forehead and he looked ready to yell at me but his eyes suddenly glazed over.
"... A chance," he muttered.
He broke out of his trance and stared deep into my eyes like he could see something in me.
"How about this? Let's make a deal."
Oh boy, a deal? I had expected everything else besides that.
"A deal?" I breathed out more to myself than to him.
When it came to my father, making a deal with him was akin to making a deal with the devil.
"Fine." I said, and even as that single word slipped out, I knew I was going to regret it. One way or the other.
"Good choice." He smiled then leaned forward on his desk.
"I will lift the ban on the areas which you can go to during your house arrest to every area of the pack house so you won't just be confined to your room. I'll even assign only one guard to you if you behave well enough, how does that sound?"
"And what do I have to do for you in return?" I asked. My father definitely wasn't doing this for free.
His smile grew impossibly wide as my anxiety grew.
"You are going to apologize and get Alpha Orion to take you back. That's an order this time." He replied, his eyes darkening into a fathomless abyss. And I knew he was referring to our conversation yesterday. He hadn't believed me. Not entirely.
"And what if I don't agree to it?"
"Well then you can forget about any sort of breather I can give... Among other things."
I didn't like the tone of his statement one bit.
"You have two minutes to decide." He told me then the office went nearly silent.
The only noise present was coming from his fingers as he tapped idly on the desk.
I didn't know what to do. And saying no wasn't an option either because all the effort I had put in to talk to him would have been for nothing.
"Okay time's up. So what are you going with?"
I looked him straight in the eyes and took a deep breath.
