Screw me. Screw fucking me.
I shouldn't have said anything to Lykania, I should have found another way to get her to leave Daisy alone because this wasn't it at all.
At the crack of dawn, Lykania was already in my room with a freaking FULL basket of clothes. A whole basket!
"Oh, I thought you should just wash the rest of my clothes since you are going to be in the laundry room anyway." She flung at me before strolling out of my room.
I only gritted my teeth in silence. It was just for today only, I comforted myself.
I wished I had comforted myself better because I had been in the laundry room for the past two hours and I still had half the basket to go.
Some of these couldn't be Lykania's because they were quite frankly ugly. And knowing her, I assumed they were last season as well.
A small maid scurried into the laundry room with a small basket of clothes in her arms. She rushed out a quick greeting then went to an available washing machine to take care of the clothes.
I could tell she did this often, maybe she was a laundry maid because she took less than thirty minutes to get everything done. Unlike me who was taking forever because laundry wasn't my forte.
"Do you need something?" I asked. She had been standing in the same spot for over a minute even though she was obviously done.
"Oh, um, I just wanted to see if you needed any help." She squeaked. Her voice was light and she gave me the impression of an innocent child.
"I'm fine, thanks."
"Oh, but you're not supposed to put the colored items with the white ones. Just so you know." She mumbled and my cheeks burned from embarrassment.
"Oh... I didn't know that." I let out a nervous laugh and started separating the clothes all over again.
"Let me help you." She rushed over and got on her knees and started creating color coordinated piles.
"You don't have to. Don't you have something else to do?"
"I do but I insist. It's the least I can do after..." She trailed off and glanced down, continuing her task.
"After?"
"After you saved my sister." She whispered and my eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh, you mean Daisy!" I let out and she nodded.
"But I thought the brow- my... Guard was her only sibling. At least he gave that sort of impression." I said, then realized how stupid that sounded. It was very possible that Daisy could have more siblings.
"That's our brother, Trent. He's the oldest and yes, he does give that sort of impression." She explained and I nodded.
Trent, it suited him. I mentally stored that information for later. It could become handy sooner or later.
"Do you have any other siblings?" I asked, becoming curious.
"No, it's just the three of us."
"And your mom?"
She gave me a confused look and shook her head.
"We don't have parents."
"... Oh, but Daisy said... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked about it." I rushed out, feeling awful.
"No, no, it's fine. I get that a lot really. Daisy calls me her mom sometimes so people often think she's... Around." She finished slowly as her eyes flashed with pain.
I knew that look. It was the look I could see in my own eyes when my grandfather died. He was the only family member that really saw me for me.
"How old is Daisy by the way? I'm guessing she's around four but I'm not sure." I said, changing the subject. The atmosphere has turned gloomy and I tried desperately to change that.
"She's five actually but looks small from her age so it's understandable... The same could be said for me really." She said and I sighed.
Mission lift the atmosphere successfully failed.
"What do you mean?"
"How old do you think I am?" She asked and I lifted a brown.
"I don't know, you look, maybe seventeen." I responded.
She had the same brown eyes as her siblings but her hair was a bit lighter. It looked more dirty blonde than brown.
She didn't look like she weighed much either from the way her laundry uniform hung limply over her frame.
"I'm twenty." She said and my eyes widened.
She was too small, too short, and she was twenty?
I knew she and probably Daisy were omegas but I didn't think that omegas were treated that badly.
"I..."
"Yeah, most people don't believe me. They say I'm too small and..." She stopped and looked at me like she was seeing me in a new light and froze.
"What is it? Why did you stop?"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be looking directly at you." She answered then dropped her gaze to the floor.
"What? I don't care about that. That's just some stupid rule some old alphas made to feel more important than they actually are." I told her.
She still didn't lift her head up so I sank down on my knees instead. I placed a hand on her shoulder and her body stiffened.
"You can call me Wyn. I really don't mind." I said gently.
She dragged her large eyes back to mine and blinked.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure."
"And if you can't stay any longer, I completely understand. I don't want you stuck here doing what I brought up on myself." I added them glanced down at the rest of the filthy clothes.
"No, I'll stay. I... I really like talking to you and you seem really nice." She stuttered out in a low voice.
"I'm warning you, this looks like it's going to take a while." I said mortified when I glanced at the clock in the room.
"I'm supposed to be doing this anyway. Where did you get the guards's practice uniforms AND clothes? Those things are stressful to clean up."
"Guards's uniforms!"
"Mhmm. And from the looks of it, you got a whole squad of them too. Maybe that's why a lot of laundry maids are off this morning." She said with a thoughtful look.
If there were a thousand reasons to hate Lykania, they were a thousand and one now.
