"... Garden?"
"The day I was accused of digging into my sister's skull." I deadpanned and his eyebrows went up.
"Wow, harsh." He whistled and shook his head.
"Anyway, that was Aunt Lila. Daisy calls every female that stays long enough Mom."
"Will she start calling me Mom?"
He snorted, "are you sticking around long enough?" He asked and it sounded like a joke but I knew he meant every word.
He stared straight ahead like he was looking at something I couldn't see.
"I am. And don't doubt it." I told him.
He gave me a look that I couldn't quite place. It was a mixture of gratitude, hurt and... Longing? I couldn't be sure.
"You know, you're the first person who's cared to really talk and get to know me. Everyone else just sees me for my rank and nothing else. An omega." He spat the words like they were venom on his tongue and I couldn't blame him.
I couldn't imagine what it must feel like to have everyone look down on you because the word "omega" dictated as such.
"Well, whoever doesn't want to get to know you is the one losing. You're a great guy and an even greater brother and I'm sure you'll make an amazing warrior one day." I told him and I meant every word I said.
"Thank you. That's means a lot." His eyes filled with tears and he looked away from me sharply. I sat quietly then stretched a hand out to give him a friendly pat on the back.
"Oh, and about the other day in the garden with Lykania, don't take it personally but your sister got you good even though she is a first class bitch. No offense about that either."
"And here I thought we were having a heart felt moment." I rolled my eyes and he let out a chuckle.
I threw myself against the bench and sighed out. "It feels good to not have all those pairs of eyes staring at me."
"Oh come on, it couldn't have been that bad." Trent threw back.
"Well, it was. Nicky boy, sour face and sour face's partner aren't the most pleasant people in the world." I told Trent and he broke into a fit of laughter.
He laughed some more and even started choking, and I had had enough.
"Okay, quit it. It's not that funny."
"Not that funny? I guess "Nicky boy" is Nicholas but which one is "sour face" and whose his partner?" Tears poured out of Trent's eyes and he stared at me, waiting.
"You know, the one that's a short stack, square head with an ever present frown, that's sour face which leaves the one with shaggy black hair and eyes, essentially, he looks like a rat." I finished and Trent had started staring at me like I was the fucking moon goddess.
"What?"
"I should have started talking to you a long time ago." He said.
"So from your very descriptive "descriptions", I've gathered that "sour face" is Tony and his partner is Angus. And after much thought, sour face is the best way to describe Tony and Angus is his ever listening ear." He finished with a thoughtful look on his face.
"Tony sounds fine really but Angus? Who would name their kid that?" I asked then shook my head. Suddenly Nicky boy was starting to sound like the most normal of the bunch. At least name wise.
"Beats me." Trent replied with a shrug.
"But Nicky- I mean head guard Nicholas, that's what he goes by, by the way, isn't so bad. He's strict and kind of obnoxious but that's about it. The other two were something else, I wish you could see them during night shifts. Come to think of it, it was just us three really so maybe that's why it felt a bit much at times. Nicholas was almost never present for night shifts." Trent rambled on but I was hyper fixated on the fact that Nicky boy wasn't always around.
"Was he assigned to do something else?"
"Who? Nicholas? No, not to my knowledge but anytime I asked where he had been he would get angry and shrug me off."
Interesting. What was Nicky boy up to? Or was it my father?
"Anything else?" I asked. My senses were tingling and I knew something was up. But what?
"There's nothing else. The others didn't really notice because they thought he was assigned to something else but I knew that wasn't true and Nicholas practically threatened me to keep my mouth shut or he would get me kicked out of the guards so I did just that and thought whatever he was doing was classified."
"He threatened you?"
"Yeah, but he left me alone after that because we didn't interact much before then." Trent told me.
This was getting weirder by the minute. I still didn't know if Nicky boy was working on his own or if my Father was the one behind his mysterious disappearances.
I thought about Nicky boy's figure. He was the best looking guard aside Trent who was assigned to me. Reddish brown hair and light brown eyes with a stern expression, I could see some shewolves falling at his feet to be with him.
Or did he have a shewolf or a mate he was slinking off to meet every night?
"Does he have a mate? A girlfriend? Maybe that's where he goes every night." I assumed and Trent shook his head.
"No, he lives alone from what I've gathered and every unmated shewolf is too scared to look in his direction. Nicholas can be fierce sometimes." Trent told me and ruled out my only other assumption.
Nicholas and probably my father were up to something and I needed to keep an eye on them.
Nearby trees casted shadows around the garden. The sky had gone a pale yellow and the dinner bells were already ringing.
"We should head back, it's getting late." I said and stood to my feet. Trent followed close behind me and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something bad was going to happen.
