"Were you expecting to hear something else?" My father asked with a glint in his eye. My heart jumped in my chest and I took a subtle step back before speaking again.
"No, I just thought there would be more." I replied instead even though my whole being was shouting for him to tell me about Luciano.
Trent had said my Father and Lykania were arguing about some Alpha not showing up and that couldn't be Orion so it had to be Luciano. My Father didn't care about any other Alpha nearly as much.
"Well there isn't so leave already." Lykania spat in my direction. I clenched my fists to keep myself from retaliating.
"You can leave Wyn, and don't forget about our little agreement." My father eyed me a bit longer than necessary and my skin crawled under his gaze.
"I won't."
I didn't give Lykania and my mother another glance and turned to leave the room.
"What agreement?" Lykania's muffled voice came through when I closed the door.
So my Father hadn't told her about the deal... No, order he had given me? If I didn't know any better I would think he was keeping her out of the loop on purpose because they usually schemed about what they would get me to do together.
"What's wrong? You look like your cat died." Trent told me immediately I got out of the office and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm fine Trent."
"But you don't look fine." He placed his hands on my shoulders and turned me to face him.
"... Wyn?... You have that faraway look in your eyes again.." he said softly and I sighed.
"Hey, tell me, did you hear the name of the Alpha my Father and Lykania were arguing about?"
"Is that what you're thinking about? Man, I thought your father told you something horrible or something."
My Father told me Orion would come a few days early for the anniversary and that was akin to horrible news but I couldn't tell Trent that.
"You're spaced out again." He said and I smacked his arm. Again.
"Just answer me."
"Fine, fine. Sheesh. What's got your-"
"Trent!"
"I was getting to that. Anyway, I'm not really sure about the name because their voices were muffled but I think it was something with an L. It sounded like Luca? Lucas? Maybe Lucian, I'm not sure."
"Luciano?" My voice came out like a plea and Trent narrowed his eyes at me.
"Yeah, it could be..." His words trailed off and he stared at me intently.
"Am I missing something here? Because I feel there's a lot of things about you that I don't know about." He told me and he was right.
The first time we sat and talked, I had discovered he was a first class yapper and he had practically told me his full life story whereas I just listened.
I don't talk much about myself because in truth, there's not much to tell. Yes I was the Alpha's daughter and yes to outsiders it seemed like the perfect family, but the truth was, I didn't have much good memories growing up.
The only ones I had were limited to my grandfather before he died. And those were painful to remember.
"I just haven't gotten around to talking about myself." I told him.
"And are you going to tell me about this Alpha Luciano? I don't know if you know this but the pack came up with some... Colorful explanations just before you were put under house arrest." Trent said just as we got to my room.
"Colorful explanations? What about?"
"Oh that you're a whore who traveled to another pack to steal your sister's soon to be husband. Just stuff like that." He shrugged.
For some reason, I burst into laughter and Trent looked at me like I had lost my mind.
"You would think a person would be upset if they were called a whore." Trent commented.
"Those explanations were colorful alright. But that isn't true at all. I bet Lykania was the one who spread the word herself."
Knowing her, I wouldn't be surprised. She was capable of that kind of thing.
"Then what is the truth? The pack was beyond shocked when you rejected your mate too. Nobody saw that coming." Trent said.
I fell back on my bed as I thought of what to say. I knew this question would come sooner or later because well, it had been surprising.
I sat up again and faced Trent. He had opted to pull up a chair against the bed instead of sitting on it because he thought it was inappropriate. I had told him it was fine but he was adamant so I just let him be.
"Well, the truth is that... He was unfaithful." I told him and ended with that. Trent's brows shut up but he had the sense to not push further because it was a sensitive topic for me.
"I'm sorry he did that to you." He said after a while and my eyes teared up.
He was the only one I had told aside my family about Orion being a cheating ass and I was glad he didn't spill some bullshit talk about how Orion was my mate and needed a second chance.
Orion hadn't given me a second chance and killed me without a second thought even though I was pregnant with his child.
I didn't know when a tear slipped down my cheek until Trent leaned forward and took my hands in his.
"Please don't cry. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought up such a painful memory." He apologized.
He squeezed my hands lightly and gently pulled me into his arms. I let him.
I had known him for a short amount of time but it seemed like forever.
"It's fine. I'm fine." I reassured him then wiped the tears off my face.
I hadn't expected my emotions to run wild but they had. Deep down it would always hurt that Orion did and Lykania did what they did to me. And they had made me lose the precious gift the moon goddess had blessed me with.
