Trini's POV.
I smiled at Trent, a warmth settling in my chest as I glanced at him one last time. "Thanks for the help," I said softly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
He grinned, leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed. "Anytime, Trini." He said and drove his hand through his hair.
I hesitated for just a second, then gave him a small wave before turning away. As I stepped out of his room, I let out a quiet breath, my heart still fluttering slightly from our little moment. But there was still work to be done, and I couldn’t let myself get too caught up in silly feelings.
With steady steps, I made my way toward the cleaning supply room, my arms aching slightly from all the scrubbing I had done. As I walked, my stomach let out a loud growl, making me stop in my tracks. I placed a hand over my stomach. frowning slightly. When was the last time I had eaten? Shaking my head, I straightened up and picked up my pace. First, I needed to drop off the cleaning supplies, and then I could finally get some food.
Reaching the supply room, I opened the door and carefully set down the broom, rags, and bucket. The scent of soap and disinfectant filled the small space, and I took a quick second to stretch my sore arms before stepping out and closing the door behind me.
Food. That was the next priority.
I hurried downstairs, my footsteps light against the wooden steps as I made my way toward the kitchen. The moment I stepped inside, I spotted Casey and Mika sitting together at the table, their heads close as they whispered about something, probably gossiping like they always did. The two of them were practically inseparable, always enjoying each other’s company no matter what was going on. Even though Mika acted childish most of the time.
Casey looked up first, her eyes brightening when she saw me. "Hey, Trini! You look exhausted."
I let out a dramatic sigh, placing a hand on my forehead. "I am starving, Casey. If I don’t eat soon, I might actually pass out." I said, staggering into the kitchen.
She chuckled and stood up, heading toward the plate rack. "We can’t have that now, can we?" She asked, and she grabbed a plate and started dishing out food for me while I leaned against the counter, watching her.
Mika smirked from her seat. "Long day?"
I groaned. "The longest. Five rooms, Mika. Five. And of course, I saved Trent’s for last."
At the mention of his name, Casey paused for just a second before turning to me with a teasing smile. "Oh? And how was that?" She asked with a grin.
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop the small smile that tugged at my lips. "It was fine. He actually helped me clean." I said.
Their eyes lit up, "Clean!?" They both said in unison.
Mika snorted. "Trent? Helping? Now that’s a sight." She said nonchalantly.
"I know, right?" I laughed. "But he did, and we actually had a nice little moment," I said, smiling as I stared up into nothing.
Casey handed me the plate, her eyes twinkling. "A little moment, huh?"
I took the plate from her hands, pretending not to notice her knowing look. "Don’t start, Casey." I said with a smile on my face.
She just grinned, waving me off as I turned to leave. "Enjoy your food, lover girl." She said.
I huffed but smiled as I walked away. Those two were impossible.
When I finally reached my room, I closed the door behind me and set the plate down on the small wooden table. Before eating, I wanted to freshen up. I had spent the entire day cleaning, and I was sure I smelled like soap and sweat.
I quickly pulled off my maid dress and shoved it into the wardrobe. I grabbed a fresh towel, making my way to the bathroom.
I entered into the bathroom and turned on the shower. The cool water felt amazing against my skin, washing away the exhaustion of the day and at least some of my worries.
I took my time, letting the water soothe my aching muscles before finally stepping out and drying off. I slipped into the nightgown Alpha Luciano had provided for all the maids—a delicate, silky thing that was meant to give the impression that even we lived in luxury. It was all about appearances, after all. If visiting packs saw us dressed well, it would add to our pack’s reputation, and that's what Alpha Luciano wanted.
Once I was dressed, I sat down and dug into my food, savoring each bite. Casey had done well—everything tasted amazing. By the time I was finished, I felt completely satisfied. I set my empty plate on the ground beside me, sighing contentedly.
Glancing toward the window, I noticed how dark it had gotten. The sky outside was a deep shade of blue, the stars just beginning to peek out. It must have been around seven o'clock already. Time had flown by so quickly; that means I had spent hours arranging those rooms.
"I'm exhausted," I muttered to myself as I started feeling a bit sleepy. I could feel my eyelids about to drop.
Feeling sleep creeping in, I stood up and walked over to the window, closing it gently. The night air was crisp, but I was too tired to enjoy it. I turned back to my bed and slipped under the soft duvet, letting the warmth surround me.
As I lay there, my mind drifted back to Trent. The way he had looked at me earlier, the way his smirk softened just slightly when he spoke to me. The way he had called me amazing and other stuff he had done. But my mind still lingered on the part where he told me he wanted to help me clean.
His expression alone sent shivers of love down my spine.
I smiled to myself, my eyes fluttering shut as I let those thoughts lull me into sleep.
Maybe today wasn’t so bad after all.
