Victor's Pov.
*Next day*
I didn’t sleep. Not even for a second. My mind had been racing all night, running through every single detail, every possible outcome, every move I would make. It was foolproof. Today was the day. I was going to execute the plan, and Luciano wouldn’t have a clue.
As soon as the first crack of dawn seeped through the curtains, I jumped out of bed, my body tense with anticipation. The thrill of what was about to happen coursed through me like electricity. I could feel it in my bones. There was no hesitation, no second-guessing. I had made up my mind, and I was seeing this through.
I threw on my tuxedo in record time, buttoning up my jacket with steady hands. Every movement was sharp, precise. This wasn’t just any day. This was the beginning of something bigger, something irreversible. I walked downstairs, my footsteps barely making a sound against the polished floor. Everything was silent, the whole place still lost in sleep.
Slipping out through the back exit, I felt the crisp morning air hit my face. It was early, too early for anyone to be out. That was exactly what I needed. I made my way to the gate, pushing it open slowly, the hinges creaking slightly. I stood there for a moment, just staring at the private road ahead of me. The world was quiet, still untouched by the day.
“First, I have to carry those bodies,” I muttered under my breath, already turning towards the thick bushes that led to my cottage.
I hated going there. Every damn time I had to step foot in that place, something inside me twisted. It wasn’t just the isolation, the eerie quiet that surrounded it like a thick fog—it was what that place represented. The things I had done there, the things I was about to do. But it was necessary. It was the only place I could operate without anyone interfering.
I moved through the trees with practiced ease, the path burned into my memory. The scent of damp earth and pine filled my lungs as I walked, the soft crunch of leaves under my polished shoes the only sound accompanying me.
The cottage came into view, sitting there in its usual, miserable state. It looked like it hadn’t been touched in years, the wooden panels weathered, the windows fogged up with grime. It was deceptive, though. Inside, it was a whole different story. Inside, it was where things got done.
I stepped up to the door, pressing my palm against the cold surface before pushing it open. The air inside was stale, carrying the weight of everything that had happened within these walls. I didn’t let it get to me. I had work to do.
I moved to the back room, where the bodies were waiting. The sight of them didn’t faze me. I had seen worse. I had done worse. But that didn’t mean I enjoyed it. This was all just part of the process, part of the plan.
I crouched down, gripping the first body by the shoulders and hoisting it up. Dead weight was always heavier than you expected, but I was used to it by now. I dragged it towards the door, my muscles straining but my mind set. One by one, I would move them, get them where they needed to be. And when the sun fully rose, when the world started to wake up, everything would be in place.
Luciano had no idea what was coming.
Dragging the body out of the cottage, I barely broke a sweat. The weight of it, the lifelessness, none of it mattered to me anymore. I had done this too many times. The only thing on my mind was execution—getting every single step of this plan right.
Once outside, I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed Tony. My most trusted man. The only one I knew could handle this without a single screw-up. He picked up on the first ring.
"Come to the cottage. Now."
"On my way," he responded without hesitation.
I hung up and stood there, staring down at the body. The air was thick, the scent of damp soil mixing with something far worse. I didn’t flinch. This was just another piece on the chessboard, another move I had to make before checkmate.
An hour passed before I heard the familiar rush of wind. Tony appeared in front of me in a blink, his face calm as always, his posture sharp and alert.
"Take it to where the shipment is," I ordered, my voice steady. "It's still dark. No one's gonna see you. Put the bodies on top of the shipment and leave. Make sure no one, and I mean no one, notices."
Tony nodded without question. That was the thing about him—he never asked why, never hesitated, never doubted me. He just did what needed to be done. Without another word, he lifted the body with ease and in a split second, he was gone, vanishing into the night like a ghost.
A satisfied smirk pulled at my lips. Everything was falling into place.
I turned on my heel and made my way back to the pack house, my steps light, almost relaxed. The anticipation was intoxicating, the thrill of being ten steps ahead. Luciano thought he was preparing for war. He had no idea he had already lost.
The sky had fully brightened by the time I stepped inside. The house was stirring, the sounds of movement, conversation, and the occasional laugh breaking the silence of dawn. It felt normal, almost peaceful. But I knew better. Beneath it all, tension hummed in the walls, in the people. War was coming. At least, that’s what they all believed.
Hours passed, but my patience never wavered. When the time felt right, I made my way toward Luciano’s room, my footsteps measured, my heart steady. I knocked once.
"Come in."
I pushed the door open and stepped inside, immediately taking in his appearance. He looked like hell. Dark circles hung beneath his eyes, his posture tense, his expression unreadable. He hadn’t slept.
"You look like shit," I said, closing the door behind me.
Luciano let out a breath, rubbing his temples before glancing at me. "Didn’t sleep. Too much to prepare. War’s coming."
A slow grin spread across my face. I stepped closer, leaning against the desk as I folded my arms. "There’s not gonna be a war."
