Victor pov.
*Two months later*
Two months had passed since the war ended, and the dust had finally settled. The fights, the sleepless nights, the bloodshed—it was all behind us now. What once felt like an unending battle had come to a close, and the unexpected had happened. The pack was stronger than ever, and the ones who were once our rivals were now standing beside us as friends.
I lay on my bed, staring up at the white ceiling, a rare, genuine smile creeping onto my lips. It was strange, this feeling of peace. It had been so long since I felt this… settled.
I exhaled deeply, running a hand over my face. “Damn,” I muttered to myself. “We actually did it.”
The room was quiet, the early morning air cool against my bare skin. I shifted slightly, stretching out my muscles before finally deciding it was time to get up. Work wasn’t going to wait for me, and despite everything we had accomplished, there was always something to take care of.
I pushed the covers off and sat up, adjusting my boxers on my waist before grabbing my toothbrush. With toothpaste in hand, I headed into the bathroom, already lost in thought about the day ahead. I brushed my teeth absentmindedly, the minty taste sharp against my tongue.
The best part about all of this? The weight that had been sitting on my shoulders for years was finally gone. For the first time in what felt like forever, there was nothing to worry about—no imminent threats, no wars, no betrayals lurking in the shadows. Just… life.
I rinsed my mouth, then turned on the shower, letting the hot water cascade over my skin. It felt good—cleansing in a way that wasn’t just physical. I let my head drop forward, enjoying the sensation, before finally stepping out, grabbing a towel, and drying off.
As I walked toward my wardrobe, my foot slipped on the damp tile. My heart jumped, and I barely caught myself by gripping the wardrobe’s handle.
“Shit,” I breathed out, steadying myself. That was close.
Shaking my head, I opened the wardrobe and grabbed my clothes. I pulled them on, taking my time as I adjusted my shirt, smoothing out the fabric before putting on my watch and a few rings. Satisfied, I stepped toward the window, my fingers grazing the cool glass as I looked outside.
The private road stretched long and empty, flanked by dense greenery. The morning light filtered through the trees, casting golden hues on the pavement. A fresh breeze drifted in, carrying the scent of the earth and the distant sounds of birds waking up to a new day.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes for a moment. It was peaceful. Different. But I liked it.
With one last glance at the view, I shut the window and turned to leave my room. As I stepped into the hallway, I could hear faint voices downstairs—Matteo’s low chuckle, Luciano’s smooth, steady tone. It was familiar, comforting.
I made my way down, stepping into the main room where the guys were gathered. Matteo was leaning against the counter, coffee in hand, while Luciano stood by the window, deep in thought as always.
“Morning,” I said, grabbing a cup of coffee for myself.
Matteo smirked. “Look at you, actually sleeping for once.”
I chuckled, taking a sip. “For once, there’s nothing keeping me up at night.”
Luciano turned, amusement flickering in his dark eyes. “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Something I should know about?”
He shook his head, smirking. “Not yet.”
Matteo rolled his eyes. “You love being cryptic, don’t you?”
Luciano shrugged. “Keeps things interesting.”
I exhaled, setting my cup down. “Well, until that ‘not yet’ turns into something, I’m just going to enjoy the peace.”
Matteo clinked his cup against mine. “To peace.”
I smirked. “To peace.”
For now, at least.
"You kinda getting close to Matteo now," I said, glancing at Luciano with a smirk.
Luciano leaned back in his chair, a grin playing on his lips. "He helped us a lot. He’s finally proved himself as the Chief Guard, indeed," he said, his tone carrying a hint of pride.
I nodded, thinking back to everything Matteo had done for us over the past few months. He had been loyal, efficient, and when it came down to it, he had stepped up in ways none of us had expected. He earned his place.
We sat there for a while, letting the conversation drift to random topics—things that didn’t hold much weight but kept the room from falling into silence. It was nice, talking without the pressure of war hanging over us.
Then, out of habit, I glanced down at my watch. My eyes widened slightly. "Nine o'clock, guys. We’re late for work," I announced, sitting up straight.
Luciano raised a brow, clearly unbothered. "Late?"
"Yeah, late," I repeated, giving him a look.
He tilted his head slightly, amusement flickering in his dark eyes. "How can we be late for work when I own the place?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Doesn’t mean we don’t have to show up. Let’s go."
Luciano sighed dramatically, but he stood up anyway. As we moved towards the door, he glanced at Matteo, who was standing near the entrance, watching silently like he always did.
"Take care of the pack house, Matteo. Make sure everything is in order," Luciano instructed.
Matteo gave a slight bow. "Yes, Alpha."
Satisfied, we stepped out of the sitting room and headed downstairs to the final floor. The pack house was quiet, most of the members either out on patrol or handling their duties.
We walked past the exit door, stepping into the cool morning air. The sun was rising higher now, casting a warm golden glow over the compound. The fresh scent of pine and earth filled my lungs as we made our way toward the parking lot.
Luciano didn’t say much as we approached one of his sleek black cars, but I could tell he was thinking. He always was.
I slid into the driver’s seat while Luciano took the passenger side. The engine purred to life, and without wasting any more time, I pulled out of the parking lot, driving through the massive gates that marked the boundary of the pack house.
