Warning bells rang in my head and I dashed around the room to see if anything was taken.
What did I have that someone would want to steal? Theft wasn't even a problem in the pack house and my gut told me it was something else entirely unrelated.
Drawers were open and rummaged through and so was my closet, clothes tossed out haphazardly.
My desk was equally rummaged through but nothing was taken from any of these places. But I knew whoever was in here was looking for something.
My heart slammed in my chest and the very real fear that someone had been in here just minutes before I got in grew in my mind as the moments passed.
Another windy draft blew into the room and I shuffled to the window and closed it with a loud thud. The handles were calloused like someone had dug their hands... No, claws into it and the indents I could feel ran deep.
I visibly jumped when a voice filled the quiet space that was my room.
"Woah, what happened in here? Why is it so messy?" Trent asked as he scratched his head in confusion. He glanced around the room then back to my face ready to make a snarky comment but he paused.
"Jeez, Wyn, you look like you've seen a ghost." He said then walked up to me.
"What's wrong? I leave you alone for ten minutes and you go off being all sad again... Wyn?" His voice dropped to a whisper and i could hear the concern laced in his words.
I stood frozen and Trent's eyebrows drew together when he realized that I wasn't okay at all.
"What happened?"
"Someone was in here." I whispered and his face scrunched up.
"I don't follow..."
"When we were away, someone came here and rummaged through my room, that's why it's so messy." I told him, my voice quivering in fear.
His eyes flashed and his face took up a serious expression as he eyed the chaos in the room
"Do you know where they passed through? And was anything taken from the room?" He asked, entering guard mode.
"I think they passed through the window because it was open when I came back and you know very well I keep it locked when I'm not here." I answered.
"Nothing was taken too." I added then watched as he inspected the parts of the room heavily affected.
"What would someone be looking for in your underwear drawer?" Trent asked and my cheeks burned when I noticed my very private sets out on display.
I rushed and stuffed them back in the drawer and jammed it shut.
"I honestly have no idea."
"I don't think it's the maids because this doesn't really happen and from the looks of it, the person came with a very specific thing in mind." Trent explained and I knew he was right.
All my jewels and other precious items were where I left them though they had been turned upside down as well.
Whoever had done this had planned beforehand. They hadn't come with the simple intention of stealing.
"You said you aren't missing anything, but think for a moment, did you maybe have something that someone would break into your room for? And I'm not talking jewelry or money." Trent said then walked to the window and opened it again.
"No, I don't have anything." I told him and he nodded even as he looked out of the window.
"It's really crazy that someone would risk doing this in broad daylight. And what's even more crazy is that no one saw them when they were climbing up here. I mean, your room isn't exactly on the first floor." Trent said and I couldn't help but to agree.
My room was on the third floor so whoever it was had to have physically climbed two floors before prying my window open and getting in here.
"Has this happened before?" Trent had turned to face me and he looked at me expectantly. He was still very much in guard mode and I admired the way he took control of the situation.
His question unearthed a now distant memory of when Luciano had climbed into my room through that very window in the middle of the night.
My skin heated as I thought of the events that followed after and I hope Trent wouldn't notice.
"No, it hasn't." Other than Luciano "dropping" in that night, I hadn't had any issues of a break in.
"Are you sure Wyn? This is a very crucial matter so please take a minute to think about it." Trent pressed further, his lips set into a hard line.
"I'm sure." I told him even as my cheeks burned with embarrassment.
My fists clenched and I prayed to the moon goddess that my face wasn't flushed.
"This is bad. Really bad." Trent muttered as he paced a path in the middle of my room. He suddenly looked at me with so much emotion in his eyes and I swallowed at how he stared at me so intently.
"I'm really glad you weren't here when it happened. Only the moon goddess knows what would have happened if you were."
My stomach coiled at his words. That wasn't something I had thought about until he pointed it out.
Even with my heart thudding hard in my chest, my mind couldn't help wandering to the silly thought that I was safe because of that extra plate of pasta I had taken.
"I'm glad too." I answered and his eyes shimmered.
"Okay, we have to get a move on."
"... Move on?"
"Yes. We have to warn the pack because this is serious. The pack house was breached as we don't know if it was only your room that was targeted." Trent explained.
But something in my gut told me that I was targeted specifically. My skin crawled as I imagined some nasty guy going through my things.
Trent walked towards me and grabbed my hands, bringing my attention back to him.
"We need to go see your father?"
