Luciano's Pov.
The rest of the day went by in a blur of paperwork and meetings. By the time I finally pushed back from my desk, the sun was already dipping low, casting long shadows through the office windows. My eyes burned from staring at reports for too long, and my neck ached from being hunched over all day.
I rubbed a hand over my face, sighing. It’d been a long day, longer than usual, and I was more than ready to get out of this damn chair. I glanced over at Victor’s empty desk. He still hadn’t come back from handling the patrols. Probably for the best, considering he’d just drag me into another hour-long conversation about security routes and strategies.
Standing up, I stretched until I heard my back pop, then grabbed my jacket from where I’d slung it over the back of the chair.
I walked out of my office towards the elevator, the elevator took me down to the first floor and i came outside.
I glanced at my surroundings for a moment before walking to the parking lot where i entered my car and drove off.
*Minutes later*
I was at the pack house. The halls were quiet as I made my way out, most of the pack already heading off for dinner or finishing up their own duties. My stomach growled a little at the thought of food, and I sighed again.
Maybe I’d just grab something quick and head to my room. I wasn’t really in the mood to deal with the dining hall crowd tonight.
I was halfway to the kitchen when I heard voices coming from down the corridor—hushed, hurried, like they didn’t want to be overheard. My steps slowed instinctively, ears twitching to catch the words.
“…heard he might come back soon. Think she’s even ready for that?”
A pause, then a sigh. “She’ll have to be. Not like she’s got a choice.”
I couldn’t make out who it was, and honestly, I didn’t really care. Whatever gossip they were whispering about, it wasn’t my problem. I shook my head and kept walking, pushing open the door to the kitchen and stepping inside.
It was mostly empty, just a few pack members finishing up, but the scent of roasted meat and fresh bread still hung heavy in the air, making my stomach grumble again.
Since the kitchen was empty with no maid i jad to grab my food myself. I opened the pot and took my food.
But of course, luck wasn’t on my side.
Just as I turned, I nearly ran straight into Trini.
She blinked up at me, her eyes a little wide, like she hadn’t been expecting to see me either. She had a plate in her hands too, though hers was filled with fruits and a bit of meat, and for a second, neither of us said anything.
“Goodday Alpha Luciano,” she said finally, her voice soft and bowed slightly.
“Trini,” I replied, nodding a little. “Didn’t expect to see you here.”
She smiled a bit, though it was small and didn’t quite reach her eyes. “i just camd to grab my food, and sir is you came home early today"
“Got hungry,” I muttered, holding up my plate a little as if to prove a point.
She chuckled at that, and for a moment, the tension in the air eased just a little.
“Well,” she said, shifting her weight a bit. “I won’t keep you.”
I hesitated. For some reason, I didn’t want to just walk away, not yet. Maybe it was the way she looked—tired and a little lost, shadows darkening the skin beneath her eyes. Or maybe it was just me, too tired to think straight.
“Have you eaten yet?” I asked, the words out before I could stop them.
She blinked, surprised. “Not really,” she admitted. “Was just about to.”
I cleared my throat, glancing to the side. “You, uh… want to eat together? Or something?”
Trini’s eyes softened a little, and after a moment, she nodded. “Sir?” she said.
I rolled my eyes, "you can eat with me" I said trying to act nice. It was best we made her alot comfortable for her remaining days here.
We ended up at one of the smaller tables near the window, the one tucked away in the corner where it was a little more private. Trini sat across from me, picking at her food a little more than actually eating it, and I tried to ignore the weird flutter in my chest at the silence between us.
For a while, neither of us said anything. Just the quiet clink of forks against plates, the soft murmur of voices from the hallway outside. But it wasn’t awkward, really. More… comfortable.
Eventually, Trini glanced up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “How’s the packs stuff going?” she asked softly. I knew she was trying to bring up a conversation to ease up the tension. Eating with the Alpha was a big deal.
I shrugged, swallowing a bite of stew. “Same as always. Victor’s handling most of it. Had to deal with a couple reports, but nothing serious.”
She nodded, absently pushing a grape around her plate with her fork. “That’s good.”
A beat of silence.
Then, before I could think better of it, I blurted, “How’re you holding up?”
Trini’s hand stilled, her eyes flicking up to mine. For a moment, she looked like she might deflect—give me some half-hearted answer about being fine—but then her shoulders slumped a little, and she sighed.
“It’s… hard,” she admitted quietly. “With Dorian gone, and everything else… it just feels like too much sometimes.”
I nodded slowly. “Makes sense. You’ve been through a lot.”
She smiled weakly. “Yeah. Sometimes I wonder if it’ll ever get easier.”
“It will,” I said, a little more firmly than I meant to. “Might take a while, but it will.”
Her eyes softened again, and for a second, I couldn’t look away.
“Thanks,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “That… helps.”
I cleared my throat, suddenly too warm. “Anytime.”
We finished eating in silence after that, and when we finally stood to leave, I felt… lighter, somehow. Like some of the weight had lifted, even if just a little.
We walked out together, side by side, and for a while, we didn’t say anything. Just the quiet sound of our footsteps echoing down the hall.
When we reached the split where our paths usually divided—her room to the left, mine to the right—I hesitated.
Trini paused too, glancing up at me with a small, questioning look.
“Hey,” I said softly, rubbing the back of my neck. “If you need to talk… or just, I don’t know, hang out or something, you know where to find me. You won't be here for long so we have to treat you right”
She blinked, surprise flickering across her face before she smiled, small but warm.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” she promised.
I nodded, shoving my hands into my pockets. “Alright. Night, Trini.”
“Goodnight, Luciano,” she muttered.
