Trent's eyes widened like saucers and his ears flushed pink.
"Wait, I didn't mean it like that. I just meant I was going to sleep in your room for the night to make sure you are okay." He babbled thinking I would have taken his statement some other way. Even though it sounded like it.
"I know what you mean Trent." I told him with a small smile.
"Uh, okay." He nodded then glanced around the room again.
"With this taken care of, why don't you accompany me to see how the extra security is going." He offered.
"Um, I don't think my Father would allow that."
My Father was still ignoring me, at least for now. And I wasn't ready to push his buttons.
"I'm definitely not leaving you here, so I'll have to accompany you to somewhere else before going to check alone. Somewhere crowded." He said, emphasizing the crowded.
I thought for a moment and shrugged. It was getting late so why not just have dinner and call it a day?
"You can escort me to the kitchen. All this worrying has really done a number on me." Trent chuckled at my words then gestured to the door.
"Come on then."
Trent escorted me to the kitchen then literally stormed off before I had even grabbed a plate. It was weird seeing him in this serious mode but I had started to get used to it.
The kitchen air was filled with the scent of freshly baked garlic bread and warm tomato soup. I soon forgot all about my Father and the break in as I wallowed in the haven of delicious food.
"Wyn?" A quiet voice called from my right and I turned to Willow holding a small plate of her own.
"Willow! Come sit with me." I let out and froze as the ever present crowd casted interested glances our way.
That day in the laundry room, it was obvious she was a reserved and shy person on the outside but right now she looked like she had curled into herself at the unwanted attention.
"Don't just stand there." I called softly breaking her out of her frozen state and she dropped meekly into the chair beside me.
"Luna!" A high pitched voice squeaked as Daisy raced across the room to my side.
She rammed me into a hug and I squeezed her tight in my arms.
"Hi, little one."
"Daisy, don't be so loud and take a seat please." Willow instructed her sister and Daisy frowned wide then stuck her tongue out at her sister.
"Daisy." Willow whispered as she threw a playful scowl at her sister before Daisy plopped down next to her with a huff.
"Good."
A small smile graced my face and I shook my head lightly at the spectacle they put on. I guess you would always fight with your siblings no matter how old you or they were, I thought. Only for my mood to plummet when the fact came to mind that Lykania and I had never and would never have that kind of relationship. Not after what she did.
"How are you feeling after..." Willow trailed off then glanced down at Daisy who was stuffing her face with tomato soup.
Cute. She ate just like Trent.
"After?" I asked when Willow didn't seem to continue.
"After what happened in your room." She whispered then eyed the others in the dining room warily.
I didn't need to ask her how she knew about it because there was only one option as to how she found out. Trent told her.
The others in the room seemed engrossed with what they were doing, and satisfied, Willow turned back to me and waited expectantly.
"I'm okay I guess. No one was in there when I got back."
"And thank moon goddess for that." She said, her eyes filled with concern.
It touched me at how compassionate she could be with me even though she had met me for the first time a short while ago.
"I'm fine really, so you can stop looking at me like that." I told her when she wouldn't wipe that sympathetic look off her face.
"Sorry, I get like that sometimes." Willow smiled awkwardly and glanced away from me.
"Have some mercy on the garlic bread Daisy." Willow muttered as Daisy devoured a good chunk of the bread. Man, the girl could eat.
"I'm sorry Wyn, I have laundry duty this evening so I have to leave early." She said again and I glanced at her in shock.
"So soon? But you've barely eaten anything on your plate. And since when is there laundry duty this late?" I let out.
Willow bowed her head so I couldn't make out any expression on her face.
"There's always a rotation for laundry duty. Last week, I was on morning duty that's why we were able to meet. This week, I'm on evening duty." Willow explained to me and I nodded.
"And the food on your plate?" I pressed.
She was not much farther from a sack of bones and yet she wasn't eating all the food on her plate.
"I'm not really hungry right now." She said, her voice barely audible. And that was surprising, even for me.
"Is it always like this?"
"What is?"
"Do you always eat like this?" I rephrased my question and she bobbed her head in response.
No wonder she was so small for her age. She didn't eat like her age to begin with.
"And why is that?" I tried to press further but stopped when I saw her eyes go blank meaning she had started receding back into her shell.
"You don't have to answer that if you don't want to." I said in a low voice.
One thing I didn't want was push her beyond her limits. I still didn't know much about her to judge why she didn't eat much.
"Thank you." She mumbled then stood to her feet.
With Daisy in tow, they left the dining room after giving me a short goodbye.
I focused on my food and blanked out. It was Trent coming to stand in front of me that knocked me out of my daze.
"Are you ready for our sleepover?"
