The letter seemed unremarkable at first glance but it's scent, like the smell of earth after rain told me otherwise. It was a scent I knew well. Luciano.
I flipped the letter a few times over in my hand, my anticipation rising at each passing moment. My hands tingled as I ripped open the delicate seal and the contents of the letter spilled out.
Wildfire,
It's been a while, no? I've missed you and haven't been able to stop thinking about you. And something tells me that is the case for you too.
I won't be attending your parents anniversary for pack reasons because I'm very busy and won't have the time for it. But I will see you soon, that's a promise.
And if you ever want to reach me, just remember you have a pen, paper and a very accessible window.
My heart drummed wildly in my chest as I breezed through the rest of the letter, taking in each word like I needed it to breathe.
My wolf lifted her head, something she only did when Luciano was involved. I bet his scent on the letter was what triggered her.
I fell back on my bed with a quiet this and wiggled my legs like a school girl as a smile formed on my face.
He hadn't forgotten me?
I pressed the letter against my rapidly beating heart and greedily inhaled more of his earthy scent like some kind of addict.
I was an addict, high on the scent and very essence of him. My wolf stared again seeming to agree with me.
I laid there, in some kind of bliss until Trent shuffled loud enough to break me out of said bliss. The next moment, I was jamming my hand under my pillow, letter in tow before crawling in the properly and faining sleep.
Trent shuffled some more but thankfully didn't wake up.
"Just so uncomfortable." I heard him mumbled, his eyes still tightly shut and I rolled my eyes.
Even in sleep, he was still a yapper and complainer.
I shook my head against my pillow as a quiet yawn left my lips, tears gathering in my eyes in the process.
It didn't waste time before sleep claimed me, a dreamless one this time. No blood, death or that sinister voice waited in my dreams. But they still made me shiver like they were in the darkness of my room.
"Wyn... Wyn..." A soft voice called in my dream that I could partially recognize. I turned to my other side, a quiet "fucking leave me alone" left my lips. But the dang voice wouldn't take a hint.
This dream wasn't like the dream... No, nightmare I had had late in the night. It felt too real like someone was peering down at me as I slept.
A cold shiver ran down my spine and my body stilled and waited, no doubt waiting for the fight or flight response.
Something bared down on me, it's heat warming the side of my back and melting away some of that cold shiver.
"Wyn..." It let out again and my eyes cracked open.
Open enough for me to see out off but closed enough so no one would know that they were open.
The first thing that hit me was the light coming from the window. It was closed. The sun was high and I knew it wasn't early morning like I thought it to be.
And from my view of my room, I noticed that Trent was no longer on the sofa at the same time as the warm weight baring down on me placed an even warmer hand on my back and I nearly jumped out of my skin at the contact.
"Hey, hey, hey, it's just me." The voice I now knew was Trent whispered in an attempt to calm me down.
I rolled over to face him and threw a heavy glare his way.
"What the hell man! You scared the shit out of me!" I yelled. The dream I had still lingered in my mind and my fight or flight mode were still very much on and I didn't need anything triggering them.
"I'm sorry, I was just worried about you." He said, his eyes roaming over my frame like a mother who was checking on her sick child.
"I've told you a thousand times already, I'm just fine." I told him then sat up on the bed. There was no more sleeping now.
"Well that's not what I saw." He replied with a lifted brow.
"And what did you see?"
"Someone who is a little more than affected by the break in yesterday." He said with a sigh then sank on the bed next to me.
"And you got that how?" It was my turn to lift a brow.
"You were shivering and murmuring in your sleep. Why didn't you tell me you were scared?"
My eyes widened of their own accord and I hopd he wouldn't notice. I was shivering in my sleep, and of course he equated it to what happened yesterday.
"What was I murmuring about?" I asked then held my breath. I kept my fingers crossed behind my back and prayed to the moon goddess that he hadn't heard me talking about my dream. All I wanted to do was shove it out of my mind because what else was there to do...
"I don't know, really. It sounded like a complete gibberish to me and the only words I was able to make out were blood and death." He answered, a puzzled look crossing his face as he peered at me.
Meanwhile, the breath I had been holding died in my throat as those two words caught my ear.
Blood and death.
They were the first words I had used to describe my nightmare, and I remembered every detail of it like i had just woken up.
The same irrational fear I had in the dream hadn't gone away and I spaced out as Trent tried getting my attention.
