"So, do you want to tell me what you were having a nightmare about?" Trent asked, settling in beside me, his eyebrows lifted in question.
"I can't remember. The break in really got to me maybe that's why I had a nightmare." I told him the truth partially.
The break in did get to me but I had a nightmare about something completely different.
Trent nodded and looked away just in time because I let out a sigh of relief he definitely would have noticed if he was looking at me.
"Okay, then. I'm going to take a shower, get dressed and come back. If you like, you can use that time to get ready as well then we can head down for breakfast." He suggested and I nodded in agreement.
"That would be great."
He reached out a hand to squeeze my shoulder reassuringly before shifting off the bed and heading out the door. I waited for a good two minutes after the door thudded to make sure he was gone before I glanced back at my pillow and started digging under it.
I felt the smooth surface of the letter against my fingers, grabbed it then went through it over again. I wouldn't be surprised if I could recite the words on the page word for word with how much I had read it.
I still couldn't believe he had reached out to me. My heart ached at the thought that I wouldn't be seeing him anytime soon but I consoled myself with the fact that I could write to him. It would be a little secret between us.
I didn't even want to imagine my Father finding out I still kept in contact with him. Or even Lykania. Because between him and Lykania, I didn't know who would blow their top first. Probably Lykania because the bitch could get rabid real quick.
I got out of bed, showered and was ready in record time because Trent came back in less than an hour.
He was in a much better mood than last night, seeming to have forgotten the deep conversation we had had. But I hadn't forgotten.
Deep down, I didn't want to rush out of this damned pack house without doing something for the omegas. Especially for that little boy who got abused and scarred for being brave.
It made me look at my Father in a different light and really question his leadership abilities because how could something like this be happening right under his nose? That thought immediately led me to believe that he did know and just simply ignored it because the omegas weren't a power source for him. It sounded very much like him.
"Hey, you didn't tell me about how the security you went to check out went yesterday? Did my Father put out some guards?" I asked, choosing my questions very carefully because I didn't want to rehash any more pain. He had been through enough already.
"It's just like I suspected it would be. The Alpha did put some guards out but I wouldn't be surprised if after a week he would call them back to their former stations." Trent shrugged then let out a sigh.
"And, I don't think he is willing to continue any investigation as to who broke in your room. That ended yesterday." Trent added.
Odd. That was very odd because my father prided himself on having a powerful pack and an almost impenetrable pack house.
I remember when I was younger, he would always drill it into I and Lykania's heads that no one could break into the pack or get would be too scared to do so because of him.
And I knew my Father very well. He wouldn't take it lightly if his reputation about being an iron Alpha was tarnished.
From the look Trent has on his face, he seemed to agree with me because he said,
"I find it strange that The Alpha doesn't want to further any more investigations because he is very particular about the pack house and how "unbreakable" it is." Trent rolled his eyes and I snorted.
"Unbreakable, huh?"
"Yeah, he always says that doing guard training."
That also sounded like my Father. He could be very egotistical and proud of given the chance. And why wouldn't he be when power and influence were his main objectives.
That conversation I had ease dropped on some time ago proved that very well.
I couldn't put my finger on it, but for some reason, thinking of my Father brought flashes of the disturbing nightmare I had had. I just couldn't forget the crack that responded in the closed office before silence. And especially that sinister voice when it mentioned I was behind the door. My body quaked from the memory alone.
Trent didn't comment on the fact that I had gone quiet which honestly, was a relief for me because I didn't have to explain what was on my mind or if something was bothering me.
This time, when we arrived in the kitchen, I made a point to get two plates, as discretely as possible of course and filled both of them to the brim.
No one had to know that it wasn't all for me.
I dragged Trent to the dinning area and practically shoved one plate in front of him.
"Wyn-"
"No, I'm not hearing anything. You are eating every single thing in that plate. Are we clear?" I said then gave him a stern look. In response, he pressed his back against his chair and raised his hands in surrender.
"Geez, I was just going to say thank you." He stated and I blinked as heat rushed to my cheeks.
"Oh, okay, then your welcome."
"I mean, how can I refuse when you're staring at me like you would strangle me if I did?" Trent said again and this time, I did give him a look that said, "I will strangle you".
"Okay, okay. I'm going to eat now." He said then turned to face his food.
A soft smile stretched on my lips and my eyes stung when I saw his moisten as he pushed around the hash browns on his plate.
I turned to my own plate and dug. Not long after, something, no, someone came to stand in front of me and this time, it wasn't Trent.
