I freezed where I was standing as my breathing seized.
"What-"
"Don't even start with all those excuses you about to give because I know you are hiding something." His eyes bored into mine and I swallowed to distract myself from looking away.
Words stubbornly refused to come out of my mouth and Trent started an incessant tapping on his foot as he waited.
"Anytime now." He drawled with fast declining patience.
"So are you really not going to say anything?" He asked finally when I still hadn't responded. His shoulders sagged and his eyes started shimmering with hurt.
"I don't know what to say." I said truthfully. My mind was buzzing with a million thoughts at a time and I just didn't know where to start.
In all honesty, I didn't know what he wanted to know because there were a lot of things, and I meant a lot of things he didn't know about me. I couldn't help wincing as I thought about it.
Trent folded his arms across his chest and stared at me for a few moments. I didn't know what he was accessing but I stayed perfectly still as he looked over every inch of me and I tried showing that I was sincere.
"Well, you can start from the beginning." He said at last and I frowned.
Beginning of what? What happened between my family before we met? Or my relationship with Luciano?
"Fine." I said regardless, " but not here."
Trent didn't question me as he fell into step beside me. I kept a reasonable distance away from him, my Father's words still fresh in my mind and for some reason, my eyes shifted to every corner we passed and accessed every room thst wws left open as if i was waiting to catch someone staring or following us.
My Father didn't know so much about Trent and I's relationship simply by seeing us together a few times. Someone had to be following us. And it bugged me that I hadn't noticed at all.
Or maybe I was just paranoid?
The ancient oak doors stood large and wide and I breathed in their woody scent wiping away all uncertain thoughts from my mind. It had been ages since I had been here.
Trent followed silently behind me, and observed the old architecture and the even older books lined in multiple shelves that I couldn't count.
I gave a solitary nod to the librarian, an aged shewolf with short coppery hair, a strong chin and her signature cat eye glasses resting on her protruding nose.
"Mrs Norman." Trnet greeted from behind me, and our of the corner of my eye I saw him give her a small bow. I wouldn't have thought anything of it but when I saw her return his smile, her eyes lighting up, I realized just how other lowly pack members saw my Father and by extension me.
She had only ever looked at me with... Recognition. That was the best way I could put it.
Trent and I didn't waste time with formalities and I took him to a really quiet reading area where most pack members didn't reach. We had passed a few on our way and they had all looked at me with the same recognition. Much like Mrs Norman, except there was respect in their gaze like the ones the maids in the pack house would throw at me.
"I didn't know you read," I started as I dropped into a rickety wooden chair.
Geez, my Father needed to work on renovation some time. I couldn't remember the last time when there was much of anything being done to the pack house. The only change ever happen with the warriors and their training facilities. A clear indication of where my Father's priorities lied.
"I don't." He said without thinking and his cheeks flushed with colour.
"Well, what I meant was I don't usually come to the library." He clarified and I nodded.
"Then how do you know Mrs Norman?"
"Omega. She asked well as her husband and daughter went through and still go through the same thing we do." He finished, his jaw setting in a hard line just by talking about it.
"Oh... I'm sorry I asked."
"You don't have to keep apologizing, it's nice to share things with a friend." He said with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. I knew he was hurting.
It was nice to share things with a friend, he had said. I knew what he meant.
"So, what do you want to know?" I asked, not delaying any longer and as if he had been invigorated, he suddenly perked up and looked at me, his eyes wide and alert.
"Well, for starters, why don't you tell me what's going on with you and that Alpha Luciano your sister won't shut up about."
"My sister talks about Luciano?"
"Ahh, so you're on a first name basis too, is thst how close you too are?" Trent said, completely ignoring my question and I glared at him.
"It's... Complicated. But tell me what my sister said?" I insisted and he caved.
"Do you want the long or short version?"
"The long version please."
The more I could use against Lykania, the better.
"I'm going to spare you the least nice details out of everything but your sister called you a lot of... Colorful names."
"Sounds like her."
"She said she was going to marry Alpha Luciano and be his Luna, and she tells anyone who willing to hear her. Not like they have a choice really. She did mention you not being able to do anything about it because you nothing but a whore and Luciano wouldn't stoop so low as to be with you."
I frowned at his words and he raised his hands in surrender.
"Her words not mine. But if it makes you feel better she sounded like she was convincing herself rather than the people she was telling."
I remained quiet and pondered on his words before he spoke again.
"But it seems like she's very much wrong and you do have a stronger relationship with Alpha Luciano, right?"
