"Well, I don't know if this helps, but you look amazing." Trent said as we stood just outside the dining hall doors.
"Thank you. And you don't look so bad yourself." I stated then gave him another once over. He was in a reddish brown suit with his hair styled neatly.
"You clean up nice." I added after a moment and he flashed a smile.
"So do you. And by the way, you look a thousand times better than your sister." He put in with a smirk and I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, I know." I would definitely savor the moment when Lykania would lay eyes on me. She wasn't the only one serving looks tonight.
I had taken care to really dress for the occasion, one thing I'm sure my Father would be happy about. The thought alone made me cringe but it was what it was.
The dress I had on was the perfect shade of green, and it matched my eyes quite well. The soft silk material of the dress hugged my chest then travelled down and fled lightly at the waist before touching the floor. It had a slit at the side that went thigh high, and that meant i would be serving a bit of leg.
"Let's go in." I told Trent in an effort to prepare him before I pushed the doors open and walked into the wolves den.
At least ten heads snapped in my direction while some casted a glance or two Trent's way but other than that they didn't have much interest in him. All eyes were on me.
"Wyn, I'm so glad you could join us." My mother said with a smile on her face. The first words she had said to me in weeks.
"Come sit." She gestured to a chair next to Lykania and I paused, my stubborn feet refusing to move as I quite literally dug my heels into the ground.
Now I didn't think it was such a good idea to come here after all.
I felt Trent move from behind me and our of the corner of my eye, he was giving me the subtlest of looks which all but screamed "walk". And like a switch went off, I walked.
Lykania smiled at me, her teeth obnoxiously white but her eyes were a different case. There was pure malice in those depths.
I sat next to her and my Father smiled. He fucking smiled at me. I couldn't remember the last time I had seen him smile at me, at others once in a while when he deemed it feet to not give them a smirk or grin but for me never.
Or I guess once in a blue moon, and that blue moon was now.
"Wyn, your are right on time, we were just about to start." He stated, his eyes flashing as he threw one last look at me before turning back to the person next to him.
I knew what that look meant. In simple terms, he wanted me to not embarrass me.
From where I was sitting, I noticed Trent all the over at the end of the table with lesser ranking members of our pack and the ones that came in today. Our eyes briefly met and I made sure he looked to be okay before I observed the guests at the table.
Apart from Alpha Magnus and Alpha Thomas, there were three other Alphas who were close friends with my Father and whose packs were the closest to us.
Alpha Darius, Alpha Eric and... My mouth ran dry when my eyes when the last Alphas eyes caught mine. Of course he was here, Alpha Vincent.
Aside from Alpha Magnus who was undoubtedly one of my Father's closest friends, there was Alpha Vincent. He and my Father were basically twins because they acted the same, talked the same... It unsettled me just thinking about it.
Where Alpha Magnus downright scared me, Alpha Vincent unsettled me with just how similar in behavior he was to my Father. The only bearable thing was that when it came to looks, they were the opposite of one another.
"What kept you away today?" A voice, Alpha Thomas addressed me from across the table and I snapped my eyes to his. He gave me a friendly smile, and I smiled back. He was my favourite Alpha here by far.
"I was stuck in the library and only had time to change and come to dinner." I lied through my teeth with my face blank.
"Sorry to hear that. The pack was a little abuzz wasn't it?"
"You can imagine it." I stated as I threw a glance at his son's direction. He was hella distracted and looked nothing like the smiling young man I had peeped from the second floor with Trent.
"You okay there Simon?"
"... Huh," he visibly jumped and his Father glanced at him, his forehead furrowing.
"Simon?" Alpha Thomas pressed as he turned his full attention to him.
"Maybe he got food poisoning or something." Lykania commented, a minute hint of a sneer on her lips, but no one was paying much attention to her to have noticed.
She had a point though about the food poisoning, because Simon didn't look really good. He seemed agitated.
"I'm fine, thank you for asking." His tone was clipped and he glanced down at his food and completely ignored everything. Weird.
"What a weirdo." Lykania muttered under her breath and I shot her a look, making show to not go all out at the table.
A sharp quick came from under the table and I had to swallow the words in my throat that I was about to spue at her. And as if she knew that as well, she smiled. An innocent smile that no one would suspect her of doing anything.
Another Alpha's daughter, I think Layla was her name got Lykania's attention and they started talking. Peace and somewhat quiet, I thought.
The table was submerged in quiet whispers that intermingled into noise. My Father was having a deep conversation with Alpha Magnus and Alpha Vincent while my mother sat and listened and occasionally exchanged words with Alpha Vincent's mate, a soft spoken shewolf who for some reason i felt was too good for Alpha Vincent.
