"Fight?"
"What else am I supposed to do? I can't give her up Lunawyn." He told me and I cringed at my full name.
"Wyn is fine." Wyn was my grandfather's nickname for me, and now everyone used it.
"Right." Varin murmured.
The ballroom was still in full swing, guests milling around and gossiping, Trent still appeared to be having a good time and I didn't want to disturb him tonight.
"You wanna go somewhere else and talk?" I asked Varin and his eyebrows shot up. His eyes trailed across the room, and I assumed it was to find his Father. But the next moment they snapped back to mine and he gave me a small smile.
"Let's get out of here." And that was that.
"Are you sure you don't want to take your bodyguard with you?" We were out the door now and the music had started to fade into the background.
"You mean Trent?"
"Whatever his name is. My Father told me he's attached to you at the hip." Varin exposed and my mouth nearly dropped open.
Varin and his Father had only been here a couple of hours so the only way they could have found out anything about me or Trent is if someone told them. That someone being my father.
What else had he told his friends?
"And what else did your Father tell you?" I asked slowly. If Alpha Vincent was anything like my own Father which he was, my best bet was that he didn't reveal much about what they discussed. Only the bits and pieces that would not do any real harm.
"Not much," Varin shrugged. " He just told me how your Father disliked how close you and... What was his name again, aha, Trent were." Varin said and I nodded my head.
I was right, his Father was just like mine and hadn't revealed much of anything. Varin didn't know I was under house arrest of anything about the deal.
The skirt of my dress ruffled as cool breeze blew through the garden.
"This place is nice." Varin whistled then dropped into a bench.
I agreed but I had to say it was much more than that. It was magical. The moonlight casted a bluish haze all around but the fairy lights that hung from the trees sort of countered that and made the garden glow like it was a mystical place.
Another great thing about coming here at night, it was empty. The trees and flowers were the only things keeping us company.
"So, why did you bring me out here?" Varin asked when I sat beside him. My gaze was strained on the surprisingly starless sky. The only thing in the dark expanse of space was a beautiful crescent moon.
"I just thought you needed some fresh air." I answered. Varin quirked a brow.
"Me or you?"
"Both." I didn't bother denying it. If I had been stuck in that stuffy pretentious room for another hour, I would have tore my hair out.
The pressure was just too much, especially with the weight of all the stares on my back. Sometimes I wondered how Lykania could be so... Nonchalant, about everything.
Varin didn't try to make conversation with me, and from the corner of my eye, I could see him staring up at the dark sky just like I was, lost in his own thoughts.
"Tell me something," I started and Varin turned to me and stared in question.
"You said you would fight for your mate, but how?" The question has been nagging in my mind until now.
"I... don't know yet. What I do know is that I'm not going to let my Father dictate my own mate bond." Varin's words were laced with determination and his lips were set in a firm line as he spoke. He meant every word.
"Aren't you scared? Your father isn't an easy man to deal with by any means."
"Scared? If anything more nervous about what my Father will do when he finds out I'm not giving up Dia. I love her too much already." A smile, softer than I had seen on him all night grew on his face at the mention of his mate and for some reason, my heart started aching for mine.
Every single thing about Varin and his mate unsettled me. It made me feel like I wasn't doing enough, I wasn't fighting enough to get to Luciano.
"I don't know about you, but I don't want to sit back and let my Father order me around like I'm not capable of making my own decisions concerning my love life. If I just sit back, I'll find myself married to a "good" alpha or beta daughter he picked out instead of the one the moon goddess destined to me." Varin finished his short speech then... I don't know what.
My mind was working on overdrive as everything that was happening with me came crashing into like an angry bull with horns.
It suddenly struck me that I wasn't doing anything to fight. For myself, for Luciano, nothing. I was just letting my father happen to me. Sure, I had planned to not go through with the deal he made me agree to, but then what?
If I managed to get Orion out of my life permanently, then what?
"What's on your mind? You look like you just got a message from the moon goddess." Varin commented as he perused me.
"I was just thinking." It wasn't a lie.
"Tell me about her." I added after a heartbeat. I scrambled to change the subject because I needed to... Sit and think and figure out what the hell I was going to do. I didn't want my Father happening to me like before.
"You want to hear about Dia?" A smile had already started to tug at his lips before he even finished the statement.
"Yeah, it would be great to hear something nice tonight." I mumbled.
Varin's eyes literally lit up like crystals as he went on and on... And on about Dia. The guy was smitten.
