Simon looked around for twenty more minutes and the disappointed look on his face was enough to let me know exactly how it went. He didn't find her.
"No luck huh?" Varin asked.
"None."
"Hey, perk up. We still have a load of other places to check out so don't feel down just yet." I said in a bid to encourage him, and some light came back into his eyes.
We left the kitchen and checked every place I could think of where most people hang out at. And by the time we had gone from the training fields to the common rooms with still no luck in finding her, I had already began to pray to the moon goddess. Silently of course, or else Simon would have broken in tears. Literally. The longer we went without finding her, the more he looked ready to release a dam of tears.
Varin had noticed it too and being very much Varin he had asked,
"You aren't going to burst into tears, are you?" He had asked out of the blue but that question had crossed my mind one too many times in a short amount of time.
"Of course not." Simon denied immediately, and he had looked really offended that Varin had even asked him that kind of question.
Oh come on Simon's mate, where are you? I had even started to believe that Simon was right and his mate was hiding from him even though there wasn't any reason to.
"I think we need to regroup." After almost an hour of searching with Simon's mate not popping up, I was starting to get irritable.
"Where else should we check?" Simon asked me, hope evident in his eyes that it hurt for me to tell him that I had no idea. We had checked all the places I could think of. We couldn't very well go room to room without letting people know what we were looking for.
"You said you sense her from time to time right?" Varin asked, coming to my rescue. I sighed when Simon turned to answer him and Varin gave me a look that I knew meant, "I see you".
"I do."
"That means she is moving around constantly, maybe that's why we haven't found her." Varin said. At this point, it looked like we were taking turns giving Simon an ounce of hope.
"Do you mind if I bring someone else to help? A fresh pair of eyes couldn't be harmful." I suggested because I couldn't think of anything. Simon's lips pursed in thought before he gave me a slow nod.
"Is it your... Bodyguard?" He asked carefully and I winced. A guard was correct but not the kind of guard most of them were thinking. Trent was sent to make sure I didn't escape but I wasn't willing to offer up that information.
"His name is Trent." I said instead and he nodded, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Can we stop standing here please, we are attracting a lot of attention." Varin said and I looked around, finally noticing the odd stares we would get as people passed.
"Let's get out of here."
I knew Trent wasn't in his room and he definitely wasn't in mine because he knew I would not be in there, which left one option. He was with his sisters. But I didn't know where. I took a wild guess and lead the guys back to the garden, but this time to a part of it neither of them had seen before. Thankfully he was there.
Trent eyes roamed over my face when he saw me then shot up at the guys who each flanked my sides.
"Wyn, what is it?" He asked, worry etched into his voice.
"I need your help. Is it possible to leave your sister for a bit?" I asked. The guys had stopped a few steps away and gave Trent and I the privacy for me to convince him.
I glanced passed Trent at Daisy who was playing with a few flowers - lilies, pretty as the day she had given me one.
"Oh, um sure. And I'm guessing it has to do with them?" He asked, throwing a quick glance Simon and Varin's way. Varin winked at him while Simon gave him a short nod.
"It does." I answered.
"Okay, let me call Willow to watch over Daisy, she was here just a second ago and won't take long." He told me and I nodded before heading back to stand with Simon and Varin.
"Is he in?" Varin asked then glanced in Trent's direction.
"He is. But give him a few minutes to get his sister sorted out."
I admired the flowers around us, lilies, roses, sunflowers, that I lost track of time and didn't know how long it had passed by. Maybe five, ten minutes, I couldn't be sure.
Trent waved us over and we moved forward.
"Sorry for keeping you guys waiting, Willow will be here any moment now." He said.
"It's no problem. And thank you for agreeing to help me- us." Simon said, a soft smile on his face. He looked down at Daisy who seemed just as interested in him and he crouched down and played with her.
I smiled at his antics just as the sound of quiet footsteps started approaching. Simon was mid play when he suddenly became very still and I frowned.
"Simon are you okay?"
"And why are you sweating like that?" Varin asked immediately after noticing Simon's condition.
"It could be something he ate." Trent chipped in. I knew that was very unlikely because he had been fine all morning but I didn't refute it.
"Hi, I'm here sorry I'm late." Willow came around the corner, and I turned my attention to her before I could do anything to help Simon.
I turned back to Simon who got up and turned around so fast that I did a double take.
"You okay?" Trent asked, clearly confused but everything was falling into place in my head. I threw a look at Varin and he was already staring back at me. He was thinking the same thing.
"Mate."
