The soft silk of the long dress I wore brushed against my skin as I waddled over to my vanity to fix my hair. The dinners were tiring and after a day of smiling so much that my cheeks hurt because of the fake smiles, I realized I was over it too. But my father still seemed to enjoy the pretense and was keeping the facade of a dinner going.
A sharp knock sounded and I glanced at the door.
"It's too early Trent, geez." I whined as I put the finishing touches on my makeup. The knocks continued and I had to stop for a second and think... Trent only knocked in short successions but this time the Knicks lasted longer and were already sounding impatient. Most times Trent didn't have an issue with me still being in my room and leaving the door locked while I still got ready. That could only mean it wasn't Trent.
I glanced at my appearance in the mirror and somewhat satisfied I left and headed towards the door. Maybe Varin and his observant nature had somehow found out where my room was and decided to not wait for me to ... The words I wanted to say went dry in my mouth when I swung the door open only to be met with Lykania.
I blinked in shock while she just stared, her expression changing from blankness to disgust as her eyes travelled down the length of me. She was dressed nicely too, in a body hug dress that did wonders for her figure.
"What are you doing here?" I said, blinking to get myself to function properly. I gripped the door handle so tight that I could feel the blood leaving my hand but I didn't care.
Gritting my teeth, I barged out of the room and disoriented, Lykania staggered a few steps back . I turned around swiftly and locked the door then kept my key where I wouldn't be able to lose it. I expelled a breath after that because I didn't want to her to be in my space, and thank moon goddess she wouldn't now.
"I don't know why you're sounding like I'm the annoying one here when you refused to go and see Father." She scoffed, dusting off non existent flint from her dress.
Shit, shit, shit, shit! How had I forgotten that. That was when my mind flashed to Lykania's words earlier this morning about meeting our Father.
"Right." I drawled out to show I had heard her.
"And you're weirder than before." Lykania commented.
I didn't deign her with a response and just carried on down the hallway. She made an exasperated sound from somewhere behind me but I still didn't look at her.
Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. These words were running through my mind as I took deep breaths to ground myself.
The office was quiet when I got there and even the adjoining room was empty. With a knock on the main office door,I stood and waited for my Father to say "come in" in that domineering voice of his.
Lykania was at my side and shuffled lightly on her feet. She had made it a point to stand a few steps away from me while shooting unnecessary remarks my way.
"Come in." My Father's voice boomed and echoed all around the furniture and I shivered.
Lykania pushed the door open while I followed her. Only my Father was in the room, my Mother no where to be seen which was odd but not entirely out of the ordinary.
"Father." I acknowledged as his eyes zeroed in on me and I suddenly found myself feeling self conscious about what I was wearing.
"Wyn... Lykania," his eyes darted over to her and he regarded her for a moment with hooded eyes.
"Leave us for a bit Lykania and tell your Mother I'll be to the dining hall shortly." He instructed and Lykania's eyes flew open before she composed herself. I could feel her burning gaze on the side of my face but she didn't say anything and nodded awkwardly before shuffling out the door with a quiet slam.
My Father waited a minute or two before he beckoned me forward and I dragged my rooted feet from their spot towards the desk.
"Enjoying the festivities?" He asked and I shrugged.
"More or less but I think that question is best suited for the guests." He nodded at my statement then glanced at his watch before looking up again.
"I don't want to keep our guests waiting so I'll be quick. Alpha Orion wasn't able to show up the time he said he would but don't worry he sent a message a few days ago to let me know. He'll be at the anniversary celebration tomorrow and that's assured."
My mind went reeling at his words. Orion was coming here tomorrow and he'd sent a message a few days ago! Days, and here I thought he had decided not to show. I threw a quick look at my Father who seemed busy with shuffling some papers on his table and my fists clenched. He had waited a night to the celebration to tell me this and I didn't know why I felt it was because he wanted to rattle me.
And to top it off he was telling me not to worry! Of course I'm worried. I had taken great care to wipe the douche bag out of my mind because and had been enjoying the festivities like he'd said.
"Oh and, you do remember our agreement right?" My Father's voice suddenly filtered through my chaotic thoughts and I had to pause and process what he said.
"Of course I do, how could I forget." I spoke through gritted teeth and hoped he wouldn't catch on my annoyance. I kept reminding myself it was an order that he had given to me, not an "agreement" like he had put it- it was an order I was going to break without looking back.
"Mhmm, that's good." He mumbled, getting up to his feet and coming to the other side of the desk. My feet took a single step back before I realized and I saw my Father's eyes gleam at the movement.
"Do not embarrass me tomorrow." His words were venom as he spoke.
