"Let us through, I need to see Wyn before I leave." A voice I recognized as Varin shouted from somewhere down the hall and my chest tightened.
Had he come to help me? And I had heard "us" so did that mean he was also here with Trent and Simon?
"Sir, the Alpha has for us all visitors from seeing Lunawyn, I'm afraid I can't allow you to enter," probably a guard said.
"Bullshit. I don't care, I am seeing here and I'm commanding you to get out of the way," Varin insisted.
"We won't take long, and besides what did she do to warrant this kind of treatment while the others involved are frolicking above ground." Simon this time, his words laced with irritation as he backed up Varin.
"Dan, come on it's me who's asking, please let us in, the Alpha doesn't have to know," Trent pleaded with this Dan, who he probably knew because he was a guard as well.
"... I, Trent, he'll know, and I could lose my job if I let you in." Dan's voice was a tremor now, as he hiccuped his response.
"Then if we get caught, put the blame on me. Say I attacked you-"
"Say we all attacked you, that way it will be believaboe since there is no way you can fend off two Alpha heirs and another guard by yourself." Varin cut in sharply into Trent's suggestion mid way.
Silence reigned for a few seconds, and the only thing that filled my ears was my rapidly beating heart as I waited.
"Fine." Dan's whispered response was barely audible but with enough strain on my ears, and a bit of help for the still atmosphere, I heard him.
"Thank you, Dan," Trent said. The others murmured their own thanks before their footsteps resumed stampeding down the hallway, and towards me.
Their footsteps broke the line of vision of my one good eye, then halted, their breathing heavy and laboured.
"Wyn... How?" Trent's voice cracked, his eyes roaming over me. He sank to his knees, his eyes brimming with unshed tears that I felt my own eyes well up.
"Don't," I croaked, my voice parched from all the shouting I had done.
I broke into what was supposed to be a crawl, though I knew it looked like anything but as I dragged my heavy body to the bars of the cell.
"What happened Wyn?" Simon asked, he took crouching down to get a proper look at me.
"Not what, who did this to you?" Varin asked, his voice still and calm, but the hidden rage in his question couldn't be missed.
I raised my head to look at him, and his mouth fell open, eyes wide and unbelieving.
"Your Father did this to you? How could he? His own child!"
"Is it true Wyn?" Trent asked and I nodded slowly to confirm it. His face fell even more and he reached through the bars to hold my battered hand in his.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't help you Wyn," Trent apologized. I placed my hand atop his and raised my lips up, hoping it looked like a smile.
"It's not your fault Trent, it's not any of your faults," i addressed the others too, when I noticed blame swimming in the depths of both Varin and Simon's eyes, "you all did what you could to help me."
"But it wasn't enough, we should have done more. I should have done more." Simon wallowed, his voices lacing with so much guilt and I swallowed.
"It wasn't but I appreciate all your efforts all the same. It's not easy going up against my Father."
"We'll find a way to get you out of here Wyn, I promise, even if I'm not here," Varin said.
"You're leaving today?" I asked even though I knew that was the case, but something inside me broke all the same.
"Yes."
"When?"
"In an hour."
"An hour! What about you Simon?"
"It's the same time."
The weight in my shoulders seemed to bring me down even harder. I had been here for hours, and I hadn't realized it was late morning already. I was too delirious with pain and lost in my own head to know.
I glanced at both Varin and Simon desperately, finally understanding why they felt so guilty. They were leaving me here to fend for myself because I knew there was no way my Father would allow them to continue staying in the pack, not after last night.
"So... You came to say goodbye?" I asked slowly.
"I'm sorry-"
"It's okay, it was bound to happen." I assured Varin.
"We tried to stay longer but your Father blatantly refused," Simon explained and I sighed. I knew he would.
"We'll find a way to help you Wyn, I'm still here with you," Trent said, his hands tightening around mine, and that face me some much needed strength.
"I know you will." I cracked my first genuine smile since the show down last night.
"We will, we promise."
They all held determined gazes as they stared at me, before the moment was interrupted with another clatter of footsteps coming this way.
"Was someone else supposed to come too?" I asked, hopeful that there was no danger at bay.
"There wasn't," Varin said flatly.
It didn't take long for whoever it was to get here, and a man I had never seen before stepped forward and addressed Varin only.
"Sir, Alpha Vincent has requested your present above immediately and he said you should bring the other young Alpha with you," the man said, his eyes trained on the ground.
"And if I don't come?"
"Then we will be forced to use other means," the man said again, before steppjng aside and from the way Varin's eyes widened, i knew we had more than the required company.
"Varin, go. And take Simon with you," I ordered. His eyes found mine.
"But-"
"I'll be fine, just go."
He stood quiet for a moment, before nodding and grasping Simon's wrist.
"Take care Wyn, we will do what we can," Simon assured me before he and Varin started back the way they came with the entourage Varin's Father had sent. Soon, Trent and I were alone.
"Trent, you've been too quiet, what is it?"
"I'm worried for you Wyn, I've never seen the Alpha so angry."
"It'll blow over," I said, trying to convince myself that my situation wasn't hopeless.
"That's the thing, I don't think it will. Your Father is calling a council meeting."
"Council meeting?"
"I think he wants to banish you from the pack."
