I was dead. And there was so much I wanted to do, so much I wanted to fight for... I couldn't even get the chance to
"Wyn, snap out of it, you aren't dead," my grandfather's authoritative voice snapped. He was just like I remembered, his face stoic, but his eyes holding so many emotions to put me at ease.
"... I'm not?"
"No. Now I need you to listen carefully. You need to leave this pack Wyn, find your mate and be with him. It's the only way for the moon goddess's will go be done."
"I'm trapped in the cells, how can I-"
"Don't think too much about it, I know you will find a way."
The wind ripped harshly at my hair as my grandfather stood before me, flesh and blood- yet not. He grasped my hands, they were warm. And for the first time in a long time, I felt I had family with me.
"Listen Lunawyn, get out of this pack and everything will fall into place." His voice sounded hypnotic, and I was lulled into a trance with his words.
"The moon goddess gave you a second chance for a reason. Don't allow... My son to ruin that." Pain. The pain in his tone was palpable, and my heart ached to comfort him. I squeezed his hands in mine because I didn't know when I would be able to do so again.
"I will," I answered firmly, even as my whole being shook from uncertainty.
"I will always be with you, and so will your grandmother." Just then, at a distance in the meadow, a light shone and the frame of my grandmother stepped forward. Her eyes were filled with ice as she looked at me, and my heart burned.
"Grandma."
"Go Wyn, we will watch over you," she said. Her words seemed to caress me like the wind that had come to a stand still, lightly fluttering on my skin.
"Go Wyn." My grandfather's voice ushered me towards the light and I moved just as he moved away from me and towards where grandma stood.
I'll see you again one day, I said to myself. And I hope when I do, it will be after I've led a fulfilling life.
My tears fell as I stopped away not once looking away from where they stood even as the luminescent light engulfed me in its embrace. The last thing I saw was the smile on my grandfather's face, his eyes shining with happiness.
"I know you'll make me proud." His words carried through to me and I smiled. I won't fail.
My eyes cracked open and I was met with the same sun lighting of my cell, back to reality. The only good thing so far was that I wasn't in as much pain as before, my other eye wasn't swollen shut and my wrists were healing slowly but surely- my blood must be working over time.
I coughing properly now and the only thing ringing in my mind were my grandfather's words. I had to leave this pack, I had to find my mate because that was the moon goddess's will.
My body shook just from that one thought alone. I had never gone anywhere on my own before, now I had to up and leave.
Where would I even begin to look for Luciano, and what was the guarantee I would leave the pack unscathed. The mad gleam in my Father's eyes was enough to let me know he was going to deal with me.
I hadn't forgotten Trent's words either about my banishment, and if my Father would indeed take that route, it would be he most lenient punishment he could dish out.
Think Wyn, what can you do?
I surveyed the layout of the cell for the thousandth time and still couldn't find any opening for an escape. The place was well enclosed and airtight, and it was stone. Stone walls, floors, ceilings, so I couldn't even think to break through it without shattering my bones.
The bars, maybe? But it was the same, I was at a dead end.
There was a click in the distance and my head snapped in the direction. Another click sounded and this time, I was sure it was coming from the path leading here. I had visitors.
And just like I predicted, the quiet patter of feet echoed lightly and carried through the hallway. Multiple sets of feet.
I wanted to be enthusiastic and think it was Trent with some others ready to bust me out of here but even I couldn't be that naive to think it would be that easy. It wasn't him.
It wasn't my Father either because his footsteps would be anything but light. His own footsteps would be unmistakable because he would swagger in with confidence and... Rage. The threshold of calm he so liked to keep to had been chipped... Not even chipped, cracked and it had fallen into pieces that he was trying to gather back up.
"Aw, look at you all bruised and battered up and to top it off, you are locked in a cell. And do you know why?" Of course, why hadn't my mind crossed to her. Lykania stood there, her face decked in a saccharine smile as her beady eyes roamed over me with satisfaction.
"I'll tell you why, it's your stupid fault you are in this situation," she spat. Behind her, the two girls from last night, her cronies, stood their eyes menacing just like hers and I scoffed. Leeches.
"Come to gloat huh." My lip tilted up and her eyes flared before dying down abruptly.
"So you still have the energy to banter? I guess you haven't been taught a proper lesson yet."
"What can I say? I'm as tough as nails." I smiled, even as my chest burned.
"Are you now? Well not for long I think because to answer your earlier question, I'm not here to gloat. I'm here to give you what you deserve."
My mind stopped in confusion before I saw her swing the keys back and forth, her eyes gleaming. And suddenly I knew, this was going to be a long day.
