"How did you get that?" I whispered as she continued to jingle the keys, it was as if she was jarring at me with that simple motion.
"Not feeling snappy now right?" She ignored my question, and my fears reached an all time high when I heard the lock twist and give way. There was nothing standing between Lykania and I now, and I was already one down.
She swung the rickety bars open, the crying of the hinges rising as much as my blood pressure just as I started panicking. Cold sweat rolled down the side of my face as my eyes scanned the small cell for anything to use to fight back. There was no point in thinking of escaping because the only exit was blocked by Lykania and her cronies.
"Hold her," she snapped, and the other two rushed towards me like mindless goons as they each took an arm, thankfully they didn't dig their claws into it.
Lykania crossed her arms over her chest, satisfaction reeling in her steady gaze and I let out a huff of breath.
"How the tables have turned now, right sister? You do know what is going to happen, don't you?" She smiled. And I hated how she was talking to me in that annoying sing- song voice of hers.
I stared back at her fiercely because the only thing I still had left intact was my pride. My body was bruised, and not to mention I was outnumbered.
"Answer me damnit," she growled, as she bared her teeth at me. She closed the distance between us, fire burning in her eyes as she gripped my jaw with enough strength that I felt my face muscles go numb.
"Answer me!" She seethed again, but my mouth remained closed. That should have infuriated her, but she pulled back and it seemed all her anger had vanished but I knew there was a lie. It was simmering below the surface just waiting to erupt.
"It's fine, no matter. You don't have to talk, and I can guarantee that once I'm done with you," she eyes the girls gripping me, "once we are all done with you, then you won't be able to," she said, and from her tone, I knew that was a promise.
"Look at your perfect face, you know, I was always jealous that you were the prettiest sister, fair skin, thick luscious hair, I despised it. I wanted to be the best but somehow I always came second to you," she spat but I didn't care about her tone, all I could feel was shock.
The ever confident Lykania was jealous of me? That's a first. Or was she simply annoyed that I did get attention and not everyone was focused on her all the time?
Whether it was the former or latter, I didn't engage her because I wanted this to be done as soon as possible so that I could gather enough strength to think of a way to get out of here.
"How about I redecorate that little face of yours so we can both match for once?" She suggested, and my gaze drifted to the red patch that stubbornly meared her face. I did that, and it still hadn't completely healed.
"This is going to hurt," she said abruptly, and the next moment, I saw black. My neck stung at the force of her slap and I sucked in a painful breath.
"Does he know about this?"
"Who, Father? He probably does, but who are you for him to care about?" She raised her hand. Another strike.
I locked my split lips as I took hit after hit. I would be fine, I would endure, I told myself. I closed my eyes and lost myself in thought until Lykania got annoyed at me not reacting.
"Girls, leave us for a moment." She ordered the others who stepped out obediently, and the cell was engulfed in silence for the next moments until the steps faded away from here.
I had thought Lykania had gone as far as she could, but the next moment, she bolted towards me and pounced, and I found myself falling backwards.
I landed with a thud on the hard floor, Lykania hovering over me with her hands inches away from my neck.
"Do you think I'm going to let you go free after trying to take him away from me? Never!" She screeched and my brows furrowed.
"What are you tal-"
"Oh don't give me that shit, I'm talking about Luciano. It boils my blood thinking that you got to him before me and I will kill you before you get a chance to go after him again like the cheap whore that you are!"
I hadn't seen any of this coming. Lykania looked like a rabid wolf, her face was red and blotchy and if I didn't know her, I would have thought she was a rogue who had simply gone mad.
"Is that what you're so worked up about?" I let out, only for my air flow to be cut off as Lykania wrapped her sweaty fingers around my neck and squeezed.
"You are not better than me!"
Insecurity spoke volumes within her and I almost felt sorry for her. Almost. If she had been a decent shewolf, my sympathy would have been a different case. Right now, I felt sorry about how pathetic she was even though she had all the support from our so called family.
"You're pathetic," I whispered, as her hands tightened around my throat and I gasped for breath.
I didn't want to look at her messed up face anymore and I stared blankly at the cracked ceiling.
"You bitch! What are you looking at anyway? Given up? Because no one is coming to save you, not even that precious guard who sticks to you like gum."
She said it like I didn't already know, but I didn't comment on it because it would make her much angrier than she already was.
Black spots swam in and out of my vision, and I knew I had to do something before she really went ahead to kill me. Her emerald orbs were nothing short of crazy as her piercing gaze remained focused on me.
My arms weren't pinned to my sides, so I grabbed a random portion of her hair and pulled, hard. She expelled a breath and pressed my thirst harder but I wasn't relenting. With my other arm, I gave her a thick chop to the side of her throat, and stunned she crumpled and fell off of me, releasing my throat from the death grip she had on it.
I sucked in a much needed breath of air, just as she did the same, her hands going to her throat as she held it with trembling fingers. She remained there on her knees, her eyes wide as tears of pain rushed down her cheeks.
I crawled away from her and kept as much distance as I could, but she didn't move. She was too stunned to speak.
It was the voice of the guard on duty that smacked her out of her whatever head space she had been in. She scrambled to her feet and began dusting herself off, all through, she had made it a point to ignore my presence like I suddenly wasn't there.
I stayed at the corner, just as the guard on duty entered into both our lines of vision.
"What's going on here?" The guard was different than the one from this morning and his mean looking face told me he wasn't a friend of Trent's at all, and the once over he gave me was confirmation enough that I was right.
He turned to Lykania, and his annoyed expression suddenly morphed into one of worry.
"Miss Lykania, are you okay?" He reached for her, his eyes glimmering and Lykania all but shoved him off.
"I'm fine, geez. And don't ever think of touching me again." She warned, then dusted off the place his hands had touched as if her were the filthiest thing on earth.
"Yes, of course." He answered, his head bowed like a scolded child and even through the pain i stifled the laugh that threatened to come out. Now I knew how she had gotten in here and with the keys as well.
I didn't know whether to think of the guard as being a hopeless case or just plain stupid because Lykania was just using him. And the quicker he caught on to it, the better.
"I want to leave," she said, and he nodded. She pushed past him without looking my way, and the guard's expression reverted back to his mean one, and I knew for sure he had a thing for Lykania.
He sighed as he looked the cell, before following Lykania, and once again I was left with my thoughts.
I tended to my wounds with the little supplies Trent had smuggled in for me, then I leaned back to rest. My body ached but the healing process would be faster because I had tended to my wounds immediately. Thankfully, Lykania had not remembered her claws this time.
I sighed, all thoughts of her washing away from my mind as the thought that has been nagging me like a bug flooded my mind.
I was getting banished. But I wouldn't sit down and wait for it to happen.
