"She sure did stress us out, didn't she Rick?" A second voice said from behind me.
My whole body vibrated, and I knew there was no use in running away. I was outnumbered, and plus they knew exactly where I was. The sunlight baring down on my back seemed to mock me because it aided the goons more than it did me since they could see me just fine.
I turned around slowly, nearly jumping out of my skin at how close they truly were to me. Shaggy brown hair was farther though, and the other, Rick stood a few feet away from me, a twisted grin plastered in his face.
I shifted on my feet, and both their eyes caught the movement and went into attack mode.
"There's no use in running away now, because we will find you," Rick said.
"And we will catch you," the other one added, stepping through the cluster of bushes he was standing in. On closer inspection, I noticed the strong resemblance between them. They were most definitely twins because they looked too identical to be brothers.
The brown haired one however had more of a sane look in his faint red eyes, while Rick down right sent cold sweat running down my back.
I raised my hand up instinctively the closer they approached, and Rick cracked a smile.
"Do you think you can take the two of us?" He asked, leaning forward and resting his hands on his knees as his eyes perused me like I was a child. He turned to his brother and cocked his head to the side.
"Hey Ryan, she thinks she can take the both of us in a fight." The brown haired one, who I now knew as Ryan only shrugged as he continued advancing towards me.
Rick was wrong though, I didn't think I could take them in a fight, I only thought that if I was able to some how injure them and stop them from moving temporarily, it would give me enough time to get away before they could recover.
I didn't let it show that his words affected me though, and stayed in my stance, mentally cursing myself for not asking Trent for more indepth lessons on defending myself.
Rick straightened up and continued advancing towards me, and that was when I truly felt like a mouse being hunted down by a cat.
They circled me, occasionally casting cautious glances at me, and I did the same. I didn't yet know if they had any weapons or something else that could give them more of the upper hand that they already had.
I gave a silent prayer up to the moon goddess and begged her to be by my side. I would need all the luck in this world since I was going into this already handicapped.
Rick was the first to throw a hook and I dodged it, his face morphed into that of shock and I smirked. I may not know a lot about fighting but I did have something else up my sleeve. I was fast, and I would use that to my advantage.
Ryan didn't give me breathing space and started swinging too. Left, right, over my head, I dodged to the best of my abilities but I did catch some stray hits.
"Damn it you stupid bitch!" Rick yelled.
"I thought they said she couldn't fight at all." Ryan yelled back mid strike, and I still dodged, putting some much deserved space between us.
"Well it doesn't seem that way, now does it?" Rick snarled and even through the strikes, I noticed Ryan's throat bubble before he turned back to me. And I didn't know if I was seeing things, but his gaze went harsher than it had been and he started putting his all into his strikes.
My muscles were growing weak, and I felt them cramp as I dodged and exerted them in the process.
"Okay, enough of this stupid back and forth, Ryan grab her already." Rick yelled again, his face red and botchy, and to top it off, twisting into an ugly snarl as he yelled at his brother.
My dodges were getting slower and I had taken a few food hits from them. And I knew it would turn worse when I saw Ryan's eyes crest in determination before he started swinging his arms like a mad man.
A sharp jab from him met my stomach in a cracking blow, and I curled over, grabbing my stomach. I coughed, and a few drops of blood sprayed through my lips and I tried my hardest for the pain to not get to me. But it did.
I took another nasty shot to the ribs, this time from Rick and i heard a crack that couldn't mean anything good.
They both delivered a few more jabs, and my body protested, screaming from all the things it was going through.
Mid dodge, a tree root caught my ankle and I lost my footing falling backwards against the tree's trunk.
It momentarily stopped the hits, but not for long. My body was throbbing, and I could feel it shutting down on me because I couldn't take it anymore.
A single tear rolled down my cheek as my heart clenched. I could never be free.
I closed my eyes in surrender and waited for the hits to come but the place grew quiet.
I took a leap of faith and cracked my eyes open, just in time to see a blur of black dash from the right and ram into Rick who had been hovering over me. It moved so fast that even Ryan hadn't seen it until it was too late, and his mouth dropped open at what was happening.
"... What-"
His words were cut short when a blur of green this time, bulldozed him from where he stood and he got into a brawl with the person who attacked him.
My tired eyes fleeted across both fights, and I fought to stay awake even as I swam in and out of consciousness.
The last thing I caught before I faded away into nothingness was the familiar pair of striking blue eyes that had hunted my dreams for ages.
