Screw Rick and Ryan, I thought, annoyed. Those goons had really broken my ribs and given me internal injuries. Doctor Maya rambled on and I let out a huff because now, I wanted to strangle those goons myself. It was their fault I was currently bedridden.
"... Miss Lunawyn, can you hear me?" Doctor Maya called, my name catching my attention and pushing me out of my revenge thoughts.
"What if she has a concussion?" Trini asked, and Doctor Maya rolled her eyes.
"Or what if it's even simpler, maybe she's just lost in her own head."
Trini and Doctor Maya went back and forth, before the latter sighed and turned back to me. She placed a gentle hand on my IV pierced hand and muttered.
"I don't know what you've been through, but just know that you're safe here." Her motherly tone made my eyes moist from tears and I sniffled.
" Th... Thank you," I croaked, my throat still adjusting to talking.
Trini had been uncharacteristically quiet which was saying a lot because I had known her for less than two hours and I still found it strange. She moved forward and pressed herself at the bed side, placing her hand on my other one.
"You're safe here, Miss Lunawyn." Safe. I fleetingly remembered thinking that very same word before I floated into the land of the unconscious.
A thought struck my mind, and it cleared up as I thought about how I still didn't know where "here" was.
"I'm in a pack right?" I asked, then shut my eyes at my ridiculous question. Where else would I be?
"Of course, silly," Trini answered, agreeing with me. Doctor Maya left my side, and the part of the bed where she stood grew cold faster than I thought it would.
"And who's your Alpha?" I breathed out slowly, hoping, imploring, that it was the name I so desperately wanted to hear that would leave Trini's lips.
I almost got up from the bed to strangle Trini when she lost focus and her gaze drifted to Doctor Maya putting away her medical supplies.
"... Uh?"
"Oh right! Don't mind me. The Alpha of our pack is Luciano Lykon." The name flowed from Trini's lips and it was the best word I had heard since I woke up.
I tried to bolt upright, but immediately regretted my decision when my side stung at the sudden movement. Doctor Maya bolted back to the bed and hissed.
"Careful now, or you'll make your injury worse." she reprimanded me in that same time I had heard her use with Trini.
"You said the Alpha is Luciano?" Trini gave me a funny look while Doctor Maya's brows lifted, and I immediately realized my mistake.
"Alpha Luciano, yes." Doctor Maya corrected, emphasizing the "alpha" to make me know she had caught my little slip up.
I swallowed, hoping they wouldn't comment on me using his name so intimately, but the moment passed and I was on cloud nine again.
Luciano had come to my rescue, and for once, things were looking up for me.
"Was he the one who brought me here?" I asked slowly, not wanting them to think anything. I still remembered the scent that had clouded my senses even if I couldn't remember the exact details of the situation after i was attacked. The scent had enveloped me in it's embrace, and every fibre of my being had told me the scent belonged to him.
"Yes he did," Doctor Maya said, then added after a pause, "one early morning."
I fought the smile that threatened to spread across my face to avoid any questions, but one word Doctor Maya had said caught my attention.
"One morning? How long have I been here then?"
"Five days," Trini chipped in before Doctor Maya could say anything, and that earned her a harsh glare from the Doctor, but I didn't care about that. My eyes bulged, and I sucked in a breath.
"Five days!"
I would have fallen back on the bed from shock if I had been sitting up, but I had to content myself with locking eyes with the white, fluorescent ceiling.
"Yep," Trini clarified, popping the "p".
"You know, I thought you were going to stay sleeping for much longer than that, and so did Doctor Maya. It's a miracle you even awake right now and you're able to talk and -"
"Trini!" Doctor Maya cut her off sharply because the girl was going ten words per second, but I had to give it to her, she hadn't taken a breath all through her ramble and that in itself was impressive.
"Don't think too much dear, it's nothing bad," Doctor Maya reassured, and my eyes found hers.
"Five days is a long time," I whispered, then closed my eyes to try and process it. I had been unconscious for almost an entire week. Just thinking the thought aloud had me doing a double take.
"It-" Trini started to say, but the way the Doctor's eyes bore into her soul had her rethinking her decision to speak.
"Yes, it can be, but it's just right for you to recover," Doctor Maya said, and her lips curled into a soft smile that somehow put me at ease.
I sighed, thinking. When I had woken up, I had thought it had been for a couple hours at most, not full fledged days, but now, I was hearing otherwise. It made me question what might have taken place all through the time I had been asleep.
"The... People that attacked me, what happened to them?" That question had swirled in my mind since I woke up and it was only now I thought to ask.
My question hung in the air as Doctor Maya's forehead wrinkled before she turned a worrying gaze to Trini.
"I... Really don't know, my dear. You were just brought her by our Alpha and he asked that you be treated. I don't even know who attacked you."
My mood dropped a bit at her words, but I reassured myself that Luciano had taken care of it and there was nothing to worry about.
"So... How long am I going to be here?"
"A while." Trini put in, and my eyes rolled back. Of course.
"But do recover fast because you've got a bunch of people who want to see you," she added after a breath.
"Who?" And at my question, she smiled like a devil waiting to strike a deal.
