I tried and tried to get the information out of Trini, but surprisingly, as impulsive as she was, she proved tough in trying to get a secret out of her. The information remained tightly locked in her, and no matter what I did or said, she refused to tell me who she had been talking about. It killed me not to know, and I had come up with the wildest guesses imaginable as to who it could be.
I especially felt like strangling her whenever she would give me one of her half witty smiles because she knew something I didn't.
"Okay, but like give me a hint or something?" I begged her three days later. She had been my only companion, and the only other person I had seen besides Doctor Maya. I was suspecting they or even Luciano was keeping me away from the pack but I didn't voice out my thoughts.
"Hmm, let me think about it," she looked at the ceiling like something special was swirling on it as she scratched her chin in a "thoughtful" look. "Nope," she said a heartbeat later, and I sucked in a breath, wondering why I was surprised she had refused. This had been my reality for days now.
"Oh come on, just a tiny hint, nothing significant. Is it a guy or a girl? Do I know this person? So they know me?" I fired question back to back, and Trini only smiled while shaking her head.
"Why are you so desperate?" She laughed, then adjusted herself on my... The hospital bed. I no longer wanted to think about the fact that the hospital had been my home for over a week.
"Why wouldn't I be? You dropped a bomb on me that someone wanted to see me and you expect me to not find out who it is?" I didn't even try to deny it, desperation was- scratch that, had creeped in, and my curiosity was eating me alive.
"Ugh, just tell me," I groaned, my voice already slipping into "give up" mode.
"No."
"Something."
"No"
"Anything."
"No."
"Trini!"
"Wyn!"
I sighed, and this time, I was able to fall back on the bed because I was finally able to sit up without wheezing from the pain in my side. It still stung, but it was nothing more than a little tingling now. Doctor Maya had said I was healing faster than she had anticipated and that I would be out of the hospital before I knew it. I was looking forward to it, because no one knew how much I was sick of looking at the pale, white walls of the room. I had thought the beige walls of my ex pack were bad but these were on a whole other level.
"You're mean, do you know that?" I grumbled and she laughed.
"Whatever you say."
I let the moment pass, not without feeling a twinge in my heart for one of the people I really yearned to see. Trent. His name had been at the top of my mind because I hadn't heard from him, not like I could, because I had no idea where he was. I hoped he and Daisy were safe wherever they were.
I couldn't help the feeling of guilt that accompanied my thoughts whenever he crossed my mind because it was my fault he left the pack. He had done it for me, but that didn't change the fact that he and Daisy were irrevocably banished, and I trusted my Father to keep tight the irrevocably part because no one crossed him. Because of me Trent and Daisy were packless and were risking the chance of becoming rogues if they didn't find another pack to take them in.
Trini snapped her pink tipped fingernails in front of my face, distracting me from my thoughts, and I blinked, not wanting her fingers to get into my eyes.
"Hey... What was that for?" I let out when she stopped, and she frowned, the corners of her eyes crinkling to match her frown.
"You have that look on your face again."
"What look?"
"The one when you're like," she paused, making her face look as miserable as possible with her eyes cast downwards and her shoulders slumped, "like you are hopeless or something," she finished and my brows lifted.
There was no way I looked like that... There couldn't be.
"I don't look like that," I denied even though I knew it was true, Trent and Daisy were really getting to me.
Trini made a face that reminded me of Doctor Maya's "are you serious" look, then sighed.
"You do. If you don't believe me I could always take a picture and show you."
I sucked a breath. "That won't be necessary."
The room settled into silence and i avoided looking at Trini in the eyes. She didn't have a problem staring me down though, and I could feel her dark eyes burning a hole on the side of my face even though I was looking away.
"So, are you going to tell me what's got you looking like your whole world has ended?" She asked slowly, and I might have shared my fears but I still hadn't forgotten she had refused to tell me who wanted to see me, and I was feeling like being petty on top of it.
"No, I will not."
"Are you sure? It could make you feel better if you say the things that are bothering you out loud," she said, trying to convince me to open up, but my mind was screaming keep being petty.
"I know it could make me feel better, but my answer is still no," I breathed out, and I felt kind of guilty when her brows dropped into a hurt look. But the next moment, her brows shot up again, and her mouth dropped open.
"Wait... Are you trying to get back at me for not spilling the information earlier?"
I looked at the ceiling, suddenly finding it really interesting and Trini threw her head back and cackled. Not even laughed, cackled.
The sound annoyed me but I tried to keep my "I don't know what you are talking about" attitude going.
"You're really something Wyn," she said, using my nickname again. I had made her start calling me that, along with Doctor Maya because hearing Miss Lunawyn really hurt my ears.
"Okay, how about we do a trade?" She suggested, and that got my gaze pinned on her and her deal with the devil smile.
