Camila had expected Johnathon to clear up the misunderstanding, but he surprised her by cutting straight to the chase. "She's a violinist. Her hands are her livelihood. Could you examine her?"
"Of course," Andreas responded without hesitation. After a brief examination, he delivered his diagnosis. "Tendon strain. Not severe, but it'll flare up in cold or damp weather."
Camila nodded vigorously. "That's exactly what happens." She bit her lip. "Can it be fixed?"
"Definitely. Though it won't be easy," Andreas admitted. "You could've opted for surgery like most doctors would suggest."
"But there's an alternative—acupuncture. It'll take time and patience. We'll repair the tendon gradually."
Camila's voice tightened. "I have a concert tour next month. Will I be ready?"
Andreas gave her a confident smile. "I can't vouch for other practitioners, but with me? You'll make that stage."
Camila's face lit up. "That's incredible! Thank you, Dr. Quiler." Her gaze instinctively sought Johnathon, who returned a warm smile.
"You're in good hands," he reassured her.
Andreas gave them both a knowing look. "I'll prep for the first session. You two can wait outside."
In the hallway, Camila turned to Johnathon, eyes shining with gratitude. "Mr. Hemming, I mean it—thank you. I was completely lost before you stepped in."
Johnathon looked down, hiding his expression. "Glad I could help."
Camila thought, He really is the kindest, most considerate doctor.
When Andreas called them back, Camila's breath caught at the sight of the acupuncture needles—rows of slender silver pins that made her skin crawl.
Noticing her discomfort, Andreas said gently, "You can close your eyes if that helps. Might pinch a little."
Though her lips had gone pale, Camila squared her shoulders. "I'm fine. Please proceed."
Andreas chuckled, glancing at Johnathon. "Your girlfriend's got grit." Most girls panic at needles, but this one? Scared stiff yet holding it together. Impressive.
Johnathon studied Camila's ashen face, something unreadable passing through his eyes. After a beat, he murmured, "Excuse me," and gently covered her eyes with his hand.
Camila stiffened in surprise—just as the first needle pierced her skin. Her palms grew clammy.
The initial needles were tolerable, but as more went in, the pain intensified until her mind went white with panic. Fear and discomfort crashed over her like a riptide.
Then Johnathon's voice, warm and steady by her ear: "If it hurts too much, you can bite me."
Meanwhile, Noel hadn't heard a word in his meeting since Camila hung up on him. He checked his watch obsessively until the moment he could escape.
Tyrell met him outside with an update: "HR confirms they haven't received Ms. Bateman's resignation, Mr. Anderson."
Noel froze. "They haven't?"
Tyrell nodded. "Checked twice."
