"I don't care if that's the case," Camila snapped. "I'm drained. All I care about right now is making enough cash to cover Grandma's treatment."
Jasmin smirked. "Okay, okay. Nothing sexier than a woman who trades relationship BS for her grind."
"Yeah, talk later. Just got to the office," Camila said. But the moment she spotted Noel leaning against his car, her voice faltered. She fixed her gaze straight ahead, pretending he was invisible.
"Camila." Noel's voice cut through the air, sharp with barely contained fury. "The hell? You're really gonna act like I don't exist?"
The call was still live, and Jasmin nearly exploded through the speaker. "Wait—was that Noel? Tell me that jackass isn't actually there trying to weasel his way back in!"
"Doubt it," Camila muttered.
Her deliberate snub lit a fuse in Noel. He lunged forward, ripped the phone from her grip, and killed the call with a brutal tap.
His glare could've frozen hell. "Camila, I've been way too goddamn patient with you. You think ghosting me is cute?"
She met his gaze with vacant indifference. "Mr. Anderson. Do you need something?"
That icy detachment hit him like a sucker punch. Something primal twisted in his chest—panic, raw and sudden.
His voice turned razor-edged. "Cut the crap. A tantrum's one thing, but you're playing with fire. My patience is gone."
Camila didn't blink. "Pretty sure we're done. Or did you forget?"
Noel barked a laugh. "Please. You've pulled this 'breakup' crap how many times? The whole playing-hard-to-get routine was cute at first. Now? It's pathetic."
Camila's smile was glacial. "No games this time. I gave your ring back. Said my piece. A decent ex stays buried. Try it."
Disbelief twisted his features. "Oh, that's how you wanna play?" He nodded slowly, tongue pressing against his cheek. "Fine. But when you come crawling back? Don't expect me to be gentle."
Her fists clenched. "That'll never happen." Never again, she swore silently.
Noel's laugh was arctic. He jabbed a finger at her, eyes flashing warning, then turned to leave.
"Wait." Camila's voice stopped him.
Noel's lips curled in victory. Knew it. Pathetic. Ignores me when I'm civil, but the second I walk away—
He turned, looming over her with a smirk. "Regret hitting already? Too late, sweetheart. No amount of begging—"
"My phone." She held out her palm, voice like shards of glass. "Now."
Noel's jaw locked. For a heartbeat, it felt like she'd slapped him. "You're serious?"
"Deadly."
A muscle twitched in his jaw. "You've got a death wish, Camila," he spat, storming off like a hurricane.
Camila watched his car vanish, exhaled shakily, then scooped her phone off the pavement.
That night, Jasmin burst through the door after work, vibrating with rage after Camila's recap.
She unleashed a blistering tirade dissecting Noel's every flaw before gripping Camila's shoulders. "He's escalating. I'm not joking—I'm scared he'll put hands on you one day."
