Camila stepped into the apartment, dripping wet from the rain with her violin cradled protectively in her arms. Jasmin was already sprawled on the couch, freshly showered, snacking on watermelon and laughing at some ridiculous variety show.
The second she spotted Camila, Jasmin sprang up, snatched the violin from her hands, and nudged her toward the bathroom. "Shower first. I'll make you peppermint tea," she said, already heading to the kitchen.
"Okay," Camila mumbled, shutting the bathroom door behind her.
Twenty minutes later, she stepped out, towel-drying her hair—only to find Jasmin staring intently at the umbrella Jonathan had lent her, lost in thought.
Camila wandered over, still scrunching her damp curls. "What's so interesting about the umbrella? Something wrong with it?"
"The umbrella's fine. The guy who gave it to you? Not so much," Jasmin quipped.
Camila blinked. "Huh?"
Jasmin grabbed her wrist and yanked her onto the couch. "Spill. A guy gave this to you, right?"
Camila's eyes widened. "How'd you know?"
Jasmin smirked. "This thing reeks of 'minimalist bachelor.' Cold, aloof—just like the dude who owns it."
Camila opened her mouth, then shut it. Seriously? She could psychoanalyze a guy from his umbrella? Then again, Jonathan's stupidly handsome face didn't exactly scream "emotionally unavailable."
Jasmin narrowed her eyes at Camila's silence. "Wait, do you have another guy in the mix already?"
Camila scoffed. "Are you kidding? I just crawled out of one disaster. You think I'm dumb enough to dive into another? He was just helping me. That's it."
"Helping you?" Jasmin clicked her tongue. "Yeah, sure. Look at you—you're practically glowing. That guy's got an agenda."
"Stop making it weird. Today was only the second time we've met. If he hadn't pulled me out of that wreck last month, I'd be dead."
Jasmin's eyes lit up. "Wait—he's the one who saved your life?"
"Yeah. Him."
"Oh my god." Jasmin bounced on the couch. "A meet-cute where he literally saves your life? That's not chance, that's fate. You two might actually have a shot."
Camila groaned and flopped facedown into a pillow.
The next morning, a shrill ringtone shattered the silence, yanking Camila out of sleep. She fumbled for her phone and answered groggily, "Hello?"
"Still in bed, huh?" The familiar voice sent her bolting upright, suddenly wide awake.
"Mr. Moone?"
"Glad you remember me," the man chuckled. "Got time for lunch?"
Camila's heart leapt. "Absolutely. Whenever works for you."
"I'll text you the details."
The second the call ended, Camila flopped back onto the bed, kicking her feet like an overexcited kid.
Jasmin barged in mid-toothbrush, foam clinging to her lips. "What's happening? You okay?"
Camila launched herself at Jasmin, squeezing her in a hug. "Jasmin! Mr. Moone's back—he just called me!"
Jasmin froze. "Brenden Moone? The world-famous violinist you worshipped?"
"Yes! I thought he'd written me off after everything, but he actually reached out!"
Jasmin grinned. "Of course he did. You were his star student. He's probably dying to see you."
Camila nodded, fire in her eyes. "I'm going to blow him away today."
